I get that we're supposed to be on shore leave and I love comic relief as much as the next guy, but it feels like most of the dialogue is one lame joke playing on the other. The story is pretty cool and might have been awesome and touching if the constant quips weren't destroying the sense of urgency and flattening some of the characters. Javik yammers humorously about having to associate with "primitives", completely ignoring all his previously-displayed nuance and development, and Garrus suddenly becomes this suave James Bond clone and makes weirdly out-of-character remarks on Shepard's body and clothes if romanced.

The DLC has some great moments - Thane's memorial is beautiful - and the situation with the antagonist has some depth to it that they could have done more with so I won't say that the constant tame jokes ruined it for me, but it sure as hell ruined some parts of it. The third game's dialogue is already a bit too sharp and hammy to take seriously at times, why did they suddenly crank that up to eleven?

I guess having the content is better than not having it, but I'm pretty disappointed overall. Maybe it's just because I'm doing a rather drama-heavy playthrough otherwise?

the Citadel DLC is a great DLC>  But it's one that should not be necessary.

But ME3 is so dark, especially the outright depressing ending, that a sharp jolt of levity is seen by many to be an absolute necessity.  There's plenty of people who simply end the game with Citadel because they do not wish to continue the journey.

Well, in that case I personally find that they tried way too hard while still cutting corners. I had to sludge through most of the "humor", and the bonding scenes were generally shallow and unmoving, way below the level of the actual conversations you have with squadmates in all three games. Good thing Bioware isn't in the business of writing sitcoms.

I enjoyed it. I like goofy comic relief . Sure some parts I could do without ( James x Femshep creepy ass "romance" and Javik being a rapist), but the light tones were a nice break from the overall depressing atmosphere ME3 had.

I grew up watching adventures series that would occasionally have special episodes with OOC stories and moments that made the shows even more worth watching. I see the Citadel DLC as that, a special episode in between the main series plot.

Too goofy? In places, perhaps.

The mission is fun, and I enjoyed having (most) everyone along. Some of the meet-ups are well worth the effort, some not so much.

Armax Arsenal Arena is my favorite part of the DLC. I want every game to have a combat trainer like that.

There's plenty of people who simply end the game with Citadel because they do not wish to continue the journey.

I sometimes do Priority: Earth up until the fob. That's a nice final send-off, and you can even talk to ME2 squaddies with the QEC.

Anything past the beam run is - not fun gameplay, not a sense of accomplishment or relief, just sort of dragging Shepard's broken body through a minefield of "art".

Yes, it's goofy.
I only play it because of the AAA and the new weapons, and because I'm a completionist.
Story-wise it's a disaster, but what part of ME3 isn't?

I liked it because up to that point everyone and everything was dying.

All of it. Besides the necessarily forced points. Like the anti reaper weapon just happening to be found when reapers invade. Or that shepard a long time solider using a weapon that fires faster then the speed of sound and some how misses the assassin on top of acar.

Over all Citadel is a great DLC. The whole point was to be a funny one.

You know what's more goofy in ME; Garrus whining about how adult-life and responsibility is hard, Liara trapped in a bubble and I can't say no to her mind-frak for 'research', when the camera kept panning on Miranda's ass (I kept thinking she farted every time it does that), Kai Leng being the only character having long flowing shiny hair and Diana Allers giving more war assets than my buddy Conrad Verner and "Back in those days, news reporters have to wear make-up! ", Ashley looking like the first thing she get after being promoted was excessive botox session and default femshep looking like a Gelfling with her wide chin protruding from her skull which apparently what people vote for...

Citadel DLC is fine. Besides, at what moment in the entire Bioware franchise that you see an actual dirtyfighting between two girls involving being kicked on the boobs.

You're not alone, OP, although I think it's safe to say we're in the minority.

Overall I think the DLC is worth it for the sheer amount of content and having that one last moment with most of the trilogy's squadmembers, but the first half - the story segment - became very difficult for me to get through. For the first time in a Mass Effect game I found myself wishing for a mission to end as fast as possible :/

I think the intensity of my disappointment came down to me expecting one last 'real' Mass Effect story. I'd read the announcement that mentioned diving into the Citadel Archives, but then quickly started avoiding any further information on it. Maybe if I hadn't I would've known what to expect, but instead I went in almost blind and it just felt weird and shallow to experience these caricatures of my favourite characters, not the actual characters themselves. Everyone was a reference machine, constantly nudging you with inside jokes.

I'm glad on the behalf of the many fans who enjoyed it and needed the comic relief in an otherwise downbeat, almost depressing game. Maybe the difference is that I was really digging the low mood, the desperation, the clinging to the faintest glimmers of hope... I loved it. The Citadel DLC's story was just too jarring a change for me. At least there was enough content after the DLC's story was over to ensure I didn't regret the purchase :)

Yeah, I only find it worth it because the rest of the squad was squandered before. But the main mission never grabbed me in the first place. I appreciate Maya Brooks though. I like when Cerberus are more shady like that and not in your face. They had actually planned on Kai Leng being that way in the first place.. but scrapped the whole plot.

Count me among the minority.

The Citadel DLC was among my favorite DLCs that Bioware produced, but it was more often in spite of the DLC's goofiness than because of it. Some humor was fine, but I did come away with the impression that the devs went a little overboard. Ajensis summed up the DLC's flaws perfectly. The squadmates too often seemed like exaggerated sitcom-ish, meme-referencing caricatures of themselves. I was also not a fan of the NPC banter that broke the fourth wall by repeatedly referencing multiplayer. The DLC would have been better I thought, if it seemed a little less like Tumblr Fanfic Comic: The Game.

I did however like the main mission when I wasn't been clubbed over the head by lame out-of-character jokes, and mostly enjoyed the squadmate content when the humor wasn't lame or overdone.
