I've always been a huge fan of how Bioware tips their hat to their previous installments by always rolling over a companion character from the previous title. So with that in mind i wanted to start a thread were we can all collectively geek out and share theories an ideas for future companion characters. Feel free to comment on my ideas or throw in some of your own. I also added my justifications for why they should be in the next game.

Iron Bull: If they were going to roll over any of the current companions, it has to be Hisraad of the Ben Hathreth. Not only was he by far the most popular character because of his hilarious dialogue but his story was probably the deepest of all the companions and regardless as to whether he remains loyal to Qun or not, can easily be written into the next installment and visually, its just freaking cool seeing him fight by your side, its a video game, the whole point is for it to be fun and visually satisfying.

Secret Character: With that said a really cool feature to throw into the next installment would be the acquisition of a secret companion based on your decisions from  DAI, such as being able to recruit Krem as a companion if the chargers survive Iron Bull's personal quest or being able to recruit Fiona if your inquisitor sided with the Redcliff mages.

Dagna: Two big reasons to have Dagna as a companion, the first is that Dragon Age has always given us really great NPC Dwarves but really owe us when it comes to Companion Dwarves. Ogren was slightly entertaining but his brutish nature made him really two dimensional, Sigrun.... sucked, and even though Varric was one of the coolest characters they've come up with to date, i felt really shortchanged by the fact that he was the only Dwarf Companion for two back to back installments. The second reason is because with her weird enchantment skills it would be great to see her introduced as the first Dwarf that fills the function of a mage, essentially giving her a unique class specialization that falls under the mage tree but it really just a mage version of the artificer specialization.

Scout Harding: Reason 1: She is a personal favorite. 2: It would be nice to have several Dwarf companions in addition to several companions from other races so make building your group that much more fun and interesting (i like my group in game to have a representative from each playable race personally) 3: finally a Dwarven archer who uses a real bow lol.

Ariane: For those who don't remember her, Ariane is a companion character to the Warden in the Witch Hunt DLC. She is a Dalish Warrior. Bioware has never given us an Elf Warrior to play with in a main title, so its long overdue if you ask me. Id personally like to explore more lore about the Emerald Knights and her being a Dalish warrior, discovering knowledge on the knights could easily be part of her companion quests.

Saarebas: A Qunari Mage with its own skill tree reflecting the Qunari's physical way of using magic would be awesome. They could even write in her Qunari keeper as a non playble NPC who just tags along but never says anything because he's watching the Saarebas like a hawk. I think this would work really well if he was actually 8 feet tall like the final boss of the Trespasser DLC.

Human Male Blood Mage: I'm talking straight up evil to the core, sacrificing babies and summoning Demons like its going out of style. They've never given us a morally black companion character before and i would love to play with the idea of the Devil being in their mists trying to corrupt my main character at every turn.

Human From Rivain: Rivain is one of the Nations of the DA Universe that is rarely mentioned it would be great if they throw in a character from this nation such as a spymaster rogue to balance out the Comp i'm proposing a little more.

Dalish Archer: Never had two Dalish companions in a single game before. It would be great if he came from a clan that had very different customs or even a disliking toward Ariane's Clan so we could see some of the cultural schisms that exist within the Dalish community. This would be particularly interesting seeing as Solas has been built up as the big bad of the next installment. Have Arianne be pro Thedas and this Archer be pro Elven immortal empire restored and see the in game character drama unfold.

So that' pretty much my dream set up for DA4. Tell me what you guys think.

I'd like to see more of Cole. I just finished Asunder and Cole was one of my favorite characters in DAI. He has a connection with Solas which may be a good reason for him not to be used much in DA4, since those who may be most effective against Solas might be those who are unknown to him. Even so, I'm hoping he'll be part of the next game.

I think it'd be neat if Sutherland and Co were to be in the next game too.

Krem for sure.

Minor spoiler *I am going to heavily regret the situation that causes Krem to be in a relationship during trespasser*. I selfishly want him for myself (errr I meant whoever my da4 character is). Actually what I really meant to say is I would like to see Krem as a love interest. God I hope there is a way to romance even if it means I have to reply the last chunks of inquisition and trespasser to set that up for da4. Lol #hopelesskremantic

Other than that. I am eager to see the consequences of the conclusion of what pride has wrought us, would like to see the inquisitor. I think I have enough of Leliana and Josephine. I would not mind seeing Alastair again but sometimes as king he is no longer the boy I remember him to be from Dao.

Yeah, see, I'm not a fan of rolling over companions to new games...as companions again. It's like we're re-gifting companions.

Especially when I'm playing a new pc every game. I don't find that enjoyable. Having a great old companion in your new game, but they don't even know you because you're a brand new pc. The foundation of friendship you built over an entire game is all gone. I don't like it.

Besides which, I do not want to see any of the companions from DAI in the next DA. I just don't really care about any them. Very much. At all. I mean, I like them well enough, but not that much.  I don't want to see them again, much less have one be a companion.

A fog warrior.I was never fond of them because we never learn much ...but they live in seheron in the middle of the Tevinter/Qunari war. They have fog dancer , probably some kind of magic, they are fond of stealth.

Also human tribals. We never got one of those as far as I can remember , and it would be interesting to explore that. Not all humans are part of the main nations or were converted to the Maker. Some resisted all the changes like the Avaar.

Honestly, I don't think we're getting any companion roll over to DA4. Considering that half of the companions are romance options for the Inquisitor, I think it's highly unlikely we'll see any of them joining the new protagonist's group, as they'd then have to explain why that romance is not with the Inquisitor. So that automatically rules out Cassandra, Blackwall, Bull, Sera, and Dorian, and likely Cullen and Josephine as well. Solas, of course, is building towards being the big bad, so him joining the team isn't likely. Vivienne might well be on the Sunburst Throne, so she's out as well, as is Leliana - you don't get the head of the biggest religion in the known world joining some ragtag band. So that leaves Cole, whose story in Inquisition goes in two different directions, one of which could well mean he returns to the Fade, and Varric, who seems to have reached a conclusion in his character arc, having returned to Kirkwall as its new Viscount.

I just don't see any of the previous companions making the transition between games. I doubt any of them are going to be more than cameos if they appear again, having an involvement in a quest or two, but not actually joining our new PC as part of their party.

Now, as for side characters, I think there's a good chance that we'll see Harding join up with the new PC in DA4, given fan reaction to her is pretty positive. She's also incapable of being killed in the course of Inquisition, which can't be said for the members of the Chargers, much as I'd like to see them again.

You like Necromance dont  you?

And explain me how can they ad Krem as a companion if he is dead in my game?

They are going to invert hours in a companion just to the people who let him die don't have a companion more in DA:4

Personally, I'd love to see Merrill, Leliana, Sigrun, Oghren, and Aveline as companions in future installments.

That is the beauty of bioware games and why we have the tapestry for world save states! ^_^
You can already set in a tapestry for DAI although it does not do anything I believe...since it is probably lining it up for da4. I believe Leliana could have died in Dao and if that happens it is a glitch that she just shows up in Dai.

Of course the larger the dragon age game universe becomes the more of these oversights or conflicts happen. They already have to script differences depending if Alistair became king or not or died in Dao in order to save the romanced female warden if the dark ritual was not used. I am a wishful thinker ^_^ , don't wreck the illusion of the krem puff Lalaland for me lolololol.

None , they spammed with returning character enough to make look world small and story ridiculous by tons of the same character jumping around world just to meet our new protagonist.

It depends on how the story will be implemented. I think Harding is a possibility, as well as Maevaris since it may take place in Tevinter.

Dorian is an obvious and logical choice, but I have hope that we might see Sera, Cole, Warden Blackwall and perhaps Cassandra again.

Hunh, most plausible I gues would be Dorian, since either way he always survives. But at what capacity... we'll just have to see. Either as sponsor to the new pc or as companion.

Yes, I know he has that sensitive LI status (which require proper and careful handling. Or else  ) but I'm confident BW can handle it nicely. Maybe something like how they did it with Alistair/Morrigan/Leli who romanced the HoF, but with more 'Oomph' and sugars and cupcakes :D

Other than him.. I'd like to see Rylen as companion XD nicely fills in the Templar spot (since tevinter templars cant block magic based on some war table mission) and he survives in any schenario: NiceQuisitor/JerkQuisitor/ShadowQuisition or Honor Guard.. by the end of the show, dude's still breathing.

Some handsome Ancient Elf that's not pro-Solas plans. Arcane warrior or tank mage and I'm just dying for an elvhen KISA (and romancable for the ladies, please :D )

Edit:
yes,yes.. I have legolas complex and have been diving in tolkien again. There. I confessed. Happy? :P

Dorian is a bit questionable, given his LI status and that he's already a companion.

What I would like to see are three elven companions: Dalish, City, and Ancient elves.

Also, two dwarven companions: a Orzammar ambassador who is dealing with Tevinter and Harding as a surfacer dwarf representative.

Two mages: Maevaris and another who values the current Tevinter system (think Vivienne who valued the Circles).

Not want to see or if we have. so they should not be forced to us as companions/advisors/"friends" and we must have option to kill-get rid of them

Dorian, Maevaris, Cole.....and not want to see lelianna, cullen and josephine, i kinda make everything to not have them

Want to see as companions/advisors/li(mostly for males nonhumans and mages heroes, cos humans have all no matter what..and DAI showed us that females will have good ones)

1)elven mage female(elven laetan magister or dalish/ancient elf one) who is non-andrastian and have a realistic-pragmatic viev on magic and blood magic, and who would not romance humans at all,,,,,,want to see a "hybrid" of Morrigan, Vellana and Merriil

2)dwarven female(Dagna or Valta(for now i think about Valta more that awesome Dagna)..but i am kinda sure that we have Harding as our spy)

3)tal vashot(real one. who hates and fight against qun) sareabas kossith female
