I hate using the term theory but I recently clicked something when reading a few interviews and watching the trailer.


1. Trailer shows a guy with N7 armor
2. Bioware explicitly say that the he is not the main character

10 bucks say that the dude in the N7 armor is hunting down your main character who is some sort of outlaw.

Also, didn't Bioware say that the song (Ghost Riders) has meaning to the plot of Mass Effect? Wasn't there also leak that part of the narrative is seeking human colonies?

1. in the trailer the N7 dude is wrecking enemies you can't clearly see (they look humanoid of some sort)
2. I think he's hunting down the protag and found one of the settlements he established, that's who the dude in N7 armor is attacking, one of your settlements
3. you play as an outlaw on a journey to redemption (one of the meanings behind the song iirc)

I really think this will have some outlaw themes behind it. I'm not even calling this a theory actually, just an idea that I thought sounded pretty cool. What do you think? I would prefer a smaller scale plot like this personally.

why I would love to be and outlaw/space pirate I highly doubt bioware would ever do that since they like the hero story way too much. and are trying to turn N7 into their version of halo spartans.

The song is about a vision of hell as seen through the eyes of a cowboy as he approaches death in his old age and how he still sees hope to change in time enough to avoid that fate. He's given everything to his way of life and sees regret, the worst thing he can imagine is having to drive the herd forever.

Not so much redemption as hope for salvation from the inevitable which is drawing closer with every breath. He's lived his life and wishes he could do it all over again.

Sadly, no. Like I said I wouldn't even call it a theory, just fun speculation that made sense to me personally and the hopes of Bioware going with a plot line similar to this (more in terms of scope) rather than an ancient evil (which sadly, was mentioned in the leak).

But yea, I really wanna be some type of Space Outlaw.

When Bioware announced that the MC was going to be different and not "a Shep", i thought that it was going to be a pirate or a smuggler. However, you are forgeting that they already showed us the model of our characters in N7 armor. I like the idea but it is not likely one Bioware would go for, pretty sure the leaks suggest that your character is a pathfinder scouting out uncharted planets for potential colony locations.

I'm going to put my pre-release bet on the N7 guy from the trailer being the original Pathfinder, but he ends up going missing in action during the mission we see in the trailer. 

 

I'm basing that wild guess on his two companions, a Krogan and a human female squadmate...who might might match two of the squadmates mentioned in one of the rumored leaks. One of the leaks mentioned a Krogan squadmate named Drack, and a biotic (species not mentioned) named Cora. Cora is a human name.

 

The N7 guy goes missing in action after being attacked by hostile aliens near those ruins, but the Krogan and the human escape and become early companions for the player character, perhaps even the first two.

 

The player character is the replacement Pathfinder, who in addition to getting saddled with the last guy's original mission, now also has the mystery of the N7 guy's disappearance to solve.

 

Later in the game the N7 guy will reemerge from that vanishing act, but as an antagonist. Maybe after going full Dances with Wolves and coming to sympathize with the aliens who captured him, who might not be the villains they initially seem.

 

Maybe the Remnant (one of the aliens mentioned in the leak) will initially be allies, and the Khet (the other species mentioned in the leak) the attackers who captured the N7 guy in the trailer, but later it will turn out the Remnant can't be trusted, were manipulating the Milky Way colonists for their own nefarious goals, and that the lost tech they were guiding the Milky Way colonists into recovering is dangerous in some way. The Khet will have noble reasons for violently opposing the recovery of Remnant tech, and the Khet and Remnant will swap places in the end game, with the Remnant turning out to be the Big Bad. Maybe a Remnant squaddie will turn out to be the archvillain.

 

Or maybe I'm completely wrong. But speculation is fun.

Ah my bad. It still completely contradicts what Bioware said and that image was released last year (iirc) whereas they recently confirmed that the dude in N7 armor (in the trailer) isn't the protag. So maybe the protag you play as is a rogue N7 operative or something like that.

I just really got the feeling/vibe from the trailer, something to do with outlaws.

Apparently a lot of people think that he's gonna be our enemy. I guess, that just sounds cool?

Since survey leak wasn't proved wrong in any point at the moment, I personally prefer the theory that the guy is leader of your Strike Team mentioned in the leak. Even though it's not really exciting.

If you are talking about that leak, then remnant squadmate is unlikely since they are gone and nobody knows where.

And it is based off the wild hunt folk lore and we just played a game on the wild hunt.

Now if Mac Walters does go with this? Shep will be the leader of the wild hunt and we may very well be seeing Shepard in the trailer and the breathing DOES sound like Shep, and it DOES look like he is attacking biological beings. Synthesis shep? Might be a way to redeem his horrible third game. Walter's synthesis was completely flawed and maybe now he realizes it and Synthesis was most certainly hinted STRONGLY as being canon with that ending The only way to ensure "peace" with this flawed immortality is to kill individual and self. The only way to ensure the peace continued (and "immortality") would be to assimilate everyone who is still an individual. All we accomplished with Synthesis is being reapers in a smaller form. We will inevitably come to the same conclusions they did and act like them. Assimilate or die.

 

So maybe we could redeem Shep at the end or maybe is he not redeemable. Maybe we can tell Shep he was an absolute idiot for choosing synthesis in the first place, and that he was a moron to not argue Star kid's logic. Maybe Shep will listen...

 

I would respect Mac Walters a lot more if he did this (I do not respect him at all now). It would take a big man to take back what he essentially forced on us. It is possible Hudson was the person telling Mac Walters to write that ending though. Things we will simply never know.

 

It would certainly be a brilliant twist.

That image is a year older than the E3 trailer. It looks like there has been a redesign of the armor. Or maybe the guy in the trailer wears the base armor and your image shows the same armor with a lot of optional addons.

The earliest leak mentioned two new species and gave a brief description of each. That leak didn't mention names for those two species, but the descriptions that were given seem to line up with how the Remnant and Khet were described in a subsequent leak. Assuming for a moment that both leaks are legit, which to be honest seems to be the case, the Remnant aren't gone like the Protheans.

 

Their species' name also suggests that they are still around.

To be fair this happens in most genres that are completely made up. We have laser guns, pistols (not happening), armor and exo skeletons that looks the same. Why it is kept similar? Because you have already accepted it as believable. It is almost like "sci fi canon".  

 

In fantasy you have elves/elder races and dwarves and different takes on that, and usually gun powder is out of reach of people who play with herbs and spell ingredients and have magic powers...but that is accepted "fantasy canon".  You know there are no elves, and that magic is just illusion but you still accept them and elves and dwarves look similar in all the games.The clothing is similar. The hooded mages are similar, and on and on.
