I'd perhaps like a choice between lighter and heavier armour where the stats would differ. (Like ME1, perhaps.) I liked some of the creative direction they took in ME3. My favourite were the Ariake chestpiece and Kassa greaves. I love pretty much everything Hahne-Kedar. I also enjoy using the N7 helmet a lot. I suppose I like armours that look strong and protective... and badass. On the other hand, given that this game is more about exploration and less about warring (I think?), maybe we won't need that much plating. I'd still like to have a choice to wear something that looks both flexible and protective. Nothing terribly bulky for me, nothing terribly thin. The armour on the lady in the 4th picture in the opening post looks pretty darn cool - but the style doesn't look very mass effecty. I wouldn't be opposed to something more stylish and lighter for classes with e.g. barriers or fighting styles to support such armour. (The stuff in Norhik Krios' post looks awesome, too.) I don't really have an exact visition in my head, I guess.

I wouldn't consider that specific armor bulky, but I know what Velvet means. Have you played any of Blizzard's games?  :P

Looks like your wearing an eggshell in every Blizzard game lol

Something similar to the Chemrail gun Matt Damon's character uses in Elysium:

Spriits, that thing is glorious!

Honestly, given the description of Mass Effect weapons as bascally mini railguns, they should more or less have this effect on the target, if they don't wear sufficient armor at least. I assume this level of gibbing would be hard to handle all the time in a video game engine.

That said, I think Mass Effect's visual design regarding armor is pretty great as it is. It straddles the line between realistic and over-the-top a bit sometimes (hello Kai Leng), but not in an overly bad way, and the guns usually look and behave quite well.

If someone wants to see completely over the top weapons (including space bows and boomerangs) and the grisly effects they have on their unfortunate victims, check out Warframe. The bows in particular fire with enough force to pin the upper half of an enemy to the wall and leave the lower half where it was, killing enemies behind the target even. It's a third person Borderlands/Diablo-esque free to play game about space ninjas massacring hordes of enemies. The armor design is quite sleek as well even if sometimes a bit silly, although I wouldn't want it in ME except in small doses. The weapon design is a big no-no, I like my rule of cool but not that much.

Warframe is very much rule-of-cool, they are not even trying for any kind of basic realism.

Overall, I believe ME, especially since the second game, did an awesome job with armor and weapon design, stuff like this:

BioWare-Reveals-Weapon-Creation-Process-

... are more important in creating a rich and believable universe than 1000 codex entries. I loved how they kept adding weapon in multiplayer without losing the sight of this. So it was not just adding weapons for the sake of variety, it was actually world building too.

With armors, I reckon Mass Effect managed to created a solid identity for itself. With armors that tend to be streamlined and without too much stuff on them for the sake of just looking futuristic.

The challenge then for Andromeda is firstly not to throw all that away. The armor from the E3 trailer clearly had a Mass Effect feel to it and we saw the character holding a classic Mass Effect weapon, so I'm opmistic about this part. But it also has to put something new to the table, and that's probably the hardest part. There is so much work done in sci-fi that you see a different looking armor and people will start saying "Mass Effect is not Mass Effect anymroe now it's X or Y".

I dare say Bioware proved with the original trilogy that it has talent to create a incredible looking universe, give them time and resources and good stuff will happen.

More than that, what I really want to see in Andromeda in engineering. I hope they don't leave the glory of techonlogy in a second place to the glory of space.

I hate Warframe's aesthetics myself.

I have always felt that being so heavily armored that you can only move at a walking pace is somewhat.... poetic. The bullets bouncing off you as your heavy machine gun just buzzes away mowing down everything in your path... the occasional punch/kick that shatters your enemies bones and rag dolls them out of your way....

obviously there has to be soothing classical music playing in the background
