Yet everyone constantly acts like Hawke is this great, accomplished, unparalleled hero, and even the Inquisitor has to speak deferentially to him/her, and I'm just thinking, "One duel with one Arishok doesn't make you a better hero than the one who almost single-handedly stopped the Blight. You failed to stop Anders and you failed to kill Corypheus, so what makes Varric or Cassandra think you'll be any help stopping this war or defeating Corypheus? Get out of here!"

Stabbing a dragon in the face doesn't make you a hero, either. The only difference between Hawke and the HOF is how being incredibly good at murder worked out for them. Unfortunately for Hawke, stabbing Meredith in the face didn't make all the templars scurry mindlessly underground, because Meredith wasn't a Load Bearing Boss(TM) like the Archdemon.

^But the conflict could have been ended by Viscount Hawke, given the right decisions. Alas, right decisions weren't Hawke's strong suit, thus sayeth BioWare.

Given that the Hero of Ferelden can be a Warden that made another person do the dragon-face-stabbing for them, and that Hawke's murdering spree always ends with them having to run away from Kirkwall, neither of those reasons can be why they are such important figures.

In the end, I think it's the power of fame: you appear in enough tavern talks, songs or books (since DA lacks TV yet) as this badass force of nature and people will consider you important enough. That such fame is deserved or not is, as in real life, a matter of debate.

Dude Trevor is the s***. Preferred aggressive Hawke to the snarky one though.

Wasn't willing to sacrifice my Hawke. Loghain stayed behind. Alistair or Stroud left behind in other playthroughs. Heck ideally i'd prefer to leave the waste of space that is the Inquisitor behind.

Thought Hawke was handled pretty terribly in DAI. Trying to railroad a player character into an NPC just doesn't work imo. I cringed at how badly they reflected my Hawke's character, his feelings towards the woman he loves etc.

I have little time for the inquisitor though, so have no issues if he/she gets transferred as badly with as little regard if used as an NPC.

I don't disagree. I just don't see a real difference between the two in terms of, say, power scale or heroism. The HOF just got to do better things, and Hawke's origin story didn't sell well enough to be the Inquisitor.

I don't know. I think Rockstar are dicks, did not enjoy GTA V very much, and I hate the hypocrisy I perceive around it, be it certain story missions of their marketing and sales strategy.

It's because Hawke's human.

Hides diplo Hawke.

Certainly not me!

In all fairness, I played all three tones at one point or another.  They each have their moments, but snarky Hawke is my favorite.

Me.

Well, I don't stick exclusively to blue 100% of the time, but I gravitate to it enough over the course of the game that I end up as diplomatic.

I play all the Hawkes. I like the Diplo, as Female Mage. Male mage is the Aggressive.

My canon Hawke is diplomatic Hawke. With a dash of of sass and a splash of ain't-nobody-got-time-for-that.

My Canon Hawke is a Male Mage Humorous Hawke that rivalmanced Isabela. I adore that Hawke; its becuase he's a combo of everything I like about DA2; he's friends with Aveline. It's a must. Varric is too.

Sheesh; I am thinking back on DA2 and I realize 'Oh I like my Canon Hawke. He's fine.' But I was disappointed by the usual stuff; thee reptive dungeons, etc. Yeah, I just played as Revan and I had literally no idea what to do. It's confuzzling that game is.

I disagree.

I think Bioware did a great job with Hawke. At least, my Hawke (warrior, anti-mage, social climber).

In DA:I Hawke dialogues were always, almost perfect: direct, aggressive, anti blood magic.

Also, the CC was a great thing... after a few attempts, I manged to recreate the charismatic glorious badass that made me love DA2

Spoiler

Hawke was the best, IMO. Probably he'll never return. I'll miss him, but... thanks bioware!.

I bet BioWare could have made Hawke more playable if they had broken the Inquisitor's responses up into sets, so that the Inquisitor has the same responses in each set, but picking one set will have Hawke respond to the Inquisitor in a different way.

For example, Hawke's position on ruling over Kirkwall.

The Inquisitor would have the standard "Does it get any easier" and the other two I can't remember, but each of these three responses would be present in different response trees. Sad, Thumbs Up, Aggressive, Humorous. Sad would indicate that the Hawke doesn't like rule or is stressed by it. Thumbs up would indicate that Hawke enjoys it. Aggressive would have Hawke respond with some annoyance or a direct statement. Humorous would have Hawke downplay it or make a joke that deflects.

They could have done that for every response, including blood magic usage, the Wardens, and the Divine.

I haven't finished DAI yet, but...

Unfortunately, my two favorite Hawkes are tied to my world states where Alistair is with the Wardens. I found the "Hawke dies / Alistair dies" choice agonizing. This particular Hawke is based on my appearance and choices, plus I don't want to leave Bethany without a brother. Also, Varric and Isabela... But in DA:O, I viewed "Alistair remains a Grey Warden" as his happiest ending. This isn't what I had in mind, lol. I ended up letting Hawke die, but even though I felt sad about it, the other characters didn't talk much about Hawke's death.

I'm impressed. I mean, the point of my entire post is that this is the hardest choice I've ever had to face in a video game.

But! I think I'm eventually going to change around my four world states. My two favorite Hawkes get teamed up with Stroud. Stroud dies. My other two unlucky Hawkes will die when they get paired up with Alistair. I have a fifth world state, involving an "ultimate sacrifice" Hero of Ferelden, but I've made it non-canon until Bioware decides to add the Orlesian Warden from Awakening to the Keep.

My biggest gripe is that despite saving him, he won't play any role at all afterwards. I would have liked it if he stayed in Skyhold or at the very least be spare npc (like he was) during the fight with Corypheus in the end.

He was a protagonist from a previous game! They could have done so much more than what we had like what I just said above if kept alive. He could have had commented on the rest of the DA2 companions or had a string of war table quests

That seems to describe my world states, lol. I have too many Warden Alistair worlds out there... I really like that chummy bastard (even though he hates my King Cousland... I image my Warden would make a statement on why he did the DA in the first place and how awesome it is to have a son. He's a Morrigan romance too).

I wait for it curiously: who will be my warden?

My spirit healer Hawke never knew Stroud, his younger brother died on the Deep Roads.
Alistair are the king of Ferelden.
The Hero of Ferelden destroyed Loghain in duel, before she sacrificed herself.

My Hawke do not have warden contact.

Do not spoil! Please.

(Tip: maybe Loghain will be arrival, I remember so, Alistair said it, he lives for all of them yet unfortunately. If this is so, not Corypheus the only riddle...)

Ugh, me too. The first time I made that choice I cried and didn't play for two days (and I was obsessively playing every single day). And I only use my canon world state so that was it. My canon Inquisitor ended up leaving Hawke in the Fade. Which killed me, I love Hawke.  :crying:

Conversely, my husband had to choose between Stroud and Hawke, and he didn't even remember Stroud. "Stroud who? Later, dude."

At any rate...Patrick Weekes wrote that mission, and now that he's lead writer, we should brace ourselves for fan tears!
