Hi, just recently got back into the game after a long break and decided to purchase the GOTY edition and get all the dlc dirt cheap.

Anyway, onto my query; I'm approaching the end of the haven segment of the game (just before the invasion) and since the beginning, I've been playing on Nightmare, with all the trials ticked, but I have not received a single "special shipment" other than the dlc items that you're guaranteed to receive.

Have i just been extremely unlucky or am i missing something here?  Every time i enter Haven i have the exclamation mark (i know this is above the chest whether it has something in it or not), but like i said, for all I've received - zip, zero, nothing to be exact -  I feel I'm as well just unticking all the trials.  I'm not particularly bothered about the extra challenge, just wanted to see what kind of rewards you get.

I think most trial rewards come from entering new areas and stuff, maybe clearing rifts, it's not clear. You're not supposed to get trial rewards every twenty minutes. I have most trials turned on but only gotten a handful. The rewards are not that worth thinking about too much anyway, most are just crafting materials.

Thanks for the response, very much appreciated.  I also noticed that in my haste earlier, I used the word "trails" rather than "trials".  Oops!

I wasn't expecting them every few minutes, I was just expecting 1 or even two before the end of Haven.  Still to do the Haven fight and just about wrapped everything thing up before doing so, but still not a single item.  It's no longer about the reward, just the principle.  I want at least one God damn it!!  I've been raped by bears numerous times, yet the game still doesn't want to reward me or compensate me for enduring all those squad wipes due to bears.  Hell, even endured that awful mage encampment quest (took me over 2 hours to just clear that cave at lvl 5).  Templars were fine, but if I never see another large group of mages, it will be too soon.

Is it just me or do enemies roam in larger groups or maybe it's just groups are in closer proximity now?  Either way, I've been swamped a few times.  Don't ever remember encountering so many enemies, even on Nightmare.

I'd expect one or two trial rewards at most by the time you complete the whole of the Hinterlands. But it is a matter of chance so you've probably just been unlucky. But like I said, you're not missing much. The cool new rewards added with Trespasser are the ones you get by doing war table missions.

There are a few changes with the trials turned on, yeah. I don't know about the number of enemies, but there are elite enemies added that are quite brutal at the beginning of the game. I encountered a mage with a barrier that would simply not go down no matter how long I fought it at the first main quest fight in the hinterlands and I was forced to go to a previous save and turn the trial that added elite enemies temporarily off to be able to advance the main quest.

Well, I am playing with all Trials on on NM difficulty and I am getting a special reward about every hour or so. I got about 10 rewards for Hinterlands (helps a lot on early levels).

I didn't use the Golden Nug, if it makes any difference. Theoretically it shouldn't.

Golden Nug?  I have no idea what a/the golden nug is other than those wee creatures I saw in DA:O.  I'll look it up on wiki.

It is a special feature you can use if you finish the main quest. Comes with Trespasser. All your characters can share schematics if you use it, so you can start a new character with 2-3-4 levels schematics if you want.

But it shouldn't affect the special rewards in any case. I think you probably have a bug.

If you have an exclamation mark above the chest and you've already clicked it to get your DLC stuff, then that would indicate you're getting a Trial reward.  If you click the chest does the exclamation mark go away?  I have found that sometimes the item doesn't get listed in the GUI but it will be residing in my inventory.  Also, as was mentioned before, sometimes you get crafting mats which you might not readily spot in your inventory.  I've also gotten "valuables" so check you're junk tab, too.

I think this exclamation mark is a bit bugged all by itself. I have it absolutely every time I return to base (no matter if Haven or Skyhold), but I only get special rewards if when returning to base I am getting message "you got special rewards waiting". If not I am getting nothing out of the chest despite the exclamation mark (and I checked - I am really getting nothing).

Man, that would annoy me to no end!  Sorry you have that problem.  Ick.  lol

It actually came with a patch, I believe!

Just fyi... you can "farm" the chest until you get an item you want when you finally do get a trials reward. You can also wait to loot the chest until you have more than one reward available. Also, you CAN get duplicate items.

To farm the chest, you simply save before clicking on the chest. Then you click on the chest and get your thing. If it's not an item you want you simply reload the save and try again. One of the reasons you want to do this is because some of the items are level restricted based on when you receive them. There are rewards for levels 1-12 which become unavailable once you reach level 13, at which point you have a new selection of items.

oh, really? Sorry, I guess I got confused since that patch and Trespasser got out quite close to each other.

Yeah, it's easy to confuse the two. The trials are exclusive to Trespasser though.

Didn't get any after hours and hours of game play, then I got 2 within the space of an hour.  Like mentioned above, not that great nor worth the wait, however, bears mauling me right, left and centre wasn't a futile exercise.  Really gonna remove that one as they're annoying. Don't fancy running into those bears in the Emerald forest (or whatever it's called) if I'm having issues with those ones in the starting area.  Well, they're getting easier as I'm leveling, but I think they're needlessly more difficult and when you run into 3 of them at the same time it kinda becomes a chore.

Loving the enemies scaled to my level.  It was always something that bothered me when i last played it.  You had to follow a linear path as far as different areas were concerned if you wanted a challenge of sorts.

Well, I don't know about "not worth it", I run party of 3 mages and a rogue and couple of Tempest Centers on level 4 were a very good help since it's hard to get a staff better than that this early. Unless you farm chests a lot or use Golden Nug.

At worst you can sell the rewards for good money, 4 Moonstones are worth more than 1500 gold. 9 of these and you are good to go for schematics of Black Emporium.

ps I agree, bears are pain in the... rear end.... this early and with trials on. On the other hand, love these bear skins for crafting! Think about them as my personal special reward.))
