Penrose wrote another paper of questionable scientific value? Shocking.

That said, the man is absolutely brilliant but he has sort of gone off the deep end in the past two decades. I personally think he is spot on with objective reduction and conformal cyclic cosmology is a fascinating idea too - so props for thinking outside the box - but as a neuroscientist I take major issues with his Orch-OR which is hogwash at best and pop-culture mysticism at worst.

Also,what that paper describes is not reminiscent of Vigil at all. They are talking about a scale far more grand. So I dont really see what you mean.

It reads like conjecture.   I also wonder whether the authors considered the reduced likelihood of advanced life in earlier eons given the relative paucity of heavy elements.
