Greetings.

As far as I am aware the Grey Wardens got 3 heraldry

A: DA:O

Spoiler

B: DA:2
Spoiler

C: Commander of the Grey
Spoiler

My question is, which one is the correct one or the one they use now? No matter where I go I see DA:2 on walls etc and the commander of the grey is on the armour even in DA:O, but I rarely see the DA:O one. It confuses me a bit to see all 3 used, some more than others with no explanation as to why, and wiki wasn't very helpful.

Is this just a case of that all 3 are correct but the people in the Dragon Age universe just like the 2 others more than the DA:O?

There was a definite shift in art-style between DA:O and DA:2, so the change in heraldry is to be expected, yet different; groups, sects, orders of Grey Wardens may simply sport differing iconography depending on their taste/heritage through previous Wardens.

It's all personal taste to be honest. I'd say they're all still used.

I headcanon that what we see in DAO is mostly historical; after all, the Wardens were exiled for 300-some years because of their involvement with the rebellion against King Arland.  So I would expect the insignia we saw in Ferelden to reflect, at most, a mix of the style the Wardens were using 300 years ago and the style they're using now.  I think the iconography we see in Kirkwall in DA2 is more reflective of the current style, since the Free Marches have had a more or less continuous Warden presence.

There's also the possibility that both styles are current, with the Origins style being uniquely Ferelden and the DA2 style being more universal.

I'd imagine that the heraldic symbols changed over time. The place we see in DA2 is an ancient prison, so it's far more likely that that heraldry is one of the older ones, replaced by the 2 we see in DAO.

this is true. but as we can undestand those gryfons what we see in Ferelden does not really change concept of grey wardens

I agree with Alaric, maybe the heraldry of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden is the reflect of the syncretism of the wardens and that land

PD: Sorry my english :P
