I love Dorian and my Lavellan. I like the fact that he is gay, so you don't get the same opportunity as a female PC to romance him but alternatively you get to see how much the Inquisitor does mean to him as a friend. That is the problem with the earlier romances, they play out exactly the same with either sex, although I have to admit that Zevran saying he prefers a woman's curves actually made me feel our relationship was an emotional one as a man. In any case, as I play elves, the differences between man and woman aren't that extreme. There is something about the way my big, strong Hawke manhandles Fenris that made me feel uncomfortable about it, even though the later scenes are very touching.
I was a bit disappointed in the main game that Dorian didn't say he loved me (although it was strongly implied) and was always a bit worried that if he went back to Tevinter the writers were going to use it to end the relationship. So Trespasser made it perfect for me. We both finally declared our love and Dorian assured me that no matter what "there will always be an us." It was a pity though that we didn't get a marriage scene like Sera, particularly after the joke from Varric made me think we would. I'm also a bit disappointed that post main game the writers seem to be promoting the Bull/Dorian romance over the Inquisitor/Dorian one, even though in game I feel the Inquisitor/Dorian romance is by far the deeper one and actually what Dorian was really looking for. It is an equal partnership built on mutual respect. (I only know about Bull romances from You Tube since neither Dorian, nor my Inquisitor ever get together with him in my games but I don't like the "I know what you need" and that is to be submissive to him idea, which is why it is not going to happen).
I have to admit though, considering Dorian's inclination seems to be towards big, beefy types, it really makes me feel that he loves my Lavellan for who he is and did so really right from the start. I can't help laughing, though, every time I hear Dorian call my Lavellan "Strapping." He is either being ironic or trying too hard because those words really don't match with the elven physique.
