I purchased the DLC's and started up the campaign.

Nightmare difficulty with all the trials. Main is a rogue archer.

I ended up having to turn off the trial that made potions only heal one health. When I turned that one off I turned off the slower XP one too.

It's tough! Feels like playing HB. Mobs have insane HP and their guard is enormous. Brutes do that leap smash, pommel strike.

Have to say it's been quite challenging. I havnt encountered the NUG that gives you schematics yet so my gear is lacking.

No multiplayer version stealth makes me sad.

The golden nug will only appear after you completed the game (defeat coryfish) at least once.

NM + all trials will be tough for the first play through without all the T3 T4 schematics. But once you manage to harvest some materials and good schematics the game becomes tedious again, so don't spend too long on crafting...

Wait until you encounter an elite (trials promoted) barrier... It will regenerate its barrier faster than the rate you deplete it  <_<

I'm using a mod that let you adjust Nightmare difficulty factors in SP. It's definitely the best mod ever. Must say it's an all together different game once I made trials promote chance 100% and give enemies 10 times the health and 5 times the damage...

Yeah, I did that. Maybe I'm missing it? Probably gonna pass up using it anyway.

Yeah, that's already happened. I ended up running away and waiting till I had dispel.

yeah, beating the SP campaing with all trials + nightmare was tough as nails. But it was not my first playtrough so i used the nug to transfer all the previous dlc schematics, which made it easier.

Yeah, I havn't made anything other than a tier 2 bow, using tier 1 mats. Bought the schematic at the Black Emporium. Some of the rifts in the Hinterlands were super rough.

Just to be sure, you need to load a save that got past coryfish and interact with the nug to sync your schematics first (obvious place being skyhold undercroft). Only then the nug will appear in your other play throughs.

I'm doing this myself. First actual play-through of SP, also as archer since it's my favourite MP class. Still prefer MP in general, but the early game is definitely comparable to Heartbreaker with all the trials active.

Taking artificer and crafting for crit chance made it a lot easier though. As did finding a blue belt of urgency, very useful since I've spent most of the game on the brink of death. My 30/300% berserk armour definitely helps there.

The needlessly huge areas and a few select bugs have killed the enjoyment a little, but it's been fun enough so far. For the record, if you do Solas's quest in the Exalted Plains, don't approach it from the river (can seriously break it). Approach it from the east so you find the markers first. Also, if you care about achievements, look up how to get the Firestarter achievement before doing the last part of the Hakkon DLC.

Yeah, I'll probably go the Artificer route. Elemental mines, Spike Trap and Opportunity Knocks seems like it could be a lot of fun. I decided against a warrior because of no attack-canceling...I would have gotten frustrated.

I havn't gotten very far. I think I'm level 9ish? Still quite a bit to do in the Hinterlands. In my other playthrough I teamed up with the mages so I'll probably join forces with the Templars this time around. Before I got some levels under my belt the only reason I was able to progress at all was because of Upgraded Warcry and Cassandra. My damage was just terrible.

Freaking bears are tanks...I'd have to micromanage Cassandra and abuse Bear Mauls the Wolves while the rest of the party wailed on them for minutes at a time.

The Son wasn't to happy with you last night, Froyo. He says you need to give up that silly tutorial mode.

FTFY.

I'll grace him with my presence soon enough. I'm just giving him some time to pass me on the leaderboard.

Artificer is so awesome. I did have to cave and turn off "rub some dirt on it" because the AI is moronic and I can't stand micromanagment in this game with its sucky tac cam, and I have this weird issue where if my inquisitor goes down, I have to reload - it was just getting silly.

I've just started another playthrough as a 2h warrior, and it's so much tougher than as a ranged character, mainly because all of your vaguely decent damage output attacks will OHKO Cass. But they won't even dent the barrier of the stupid trials promoted mages, who spam a super powerful version of mind blast.

Yeah, I found the NUG...but torn on whether I should actually give myself all the schematics. I did a little trial (saved before) and I have quite a few tier 3 schematics I could use straight away.

What say you? Will I be bored steamrolling with tier 3 before skyhold?

Should I wait till a certain point? Or keep grinding just using black emporium / Avvar spoils schematics and what I find?

Use tier 3 or 4 schematics with tier 1 materials. A nice even mix.

SP has lots of very nice ability upgrades... Namely fire/ice mines and horns and combat roll.

Just spec into combat roll and you will wonder why on Earth you ever considered dragon rage.

FF has caused me to develop a new playstyle for my 2h elf warrior, which involves charging ahead of my party into groups of enemies, using mighty blow once and then dying. I call it... LEEEEROOOOY EEEELFKIIIINS

I like playing as warriors in SP, but I found myself hitting L3 and wondering what the hell then I remembered....
