So I finished installing the game, I went to go play it and i get:

ME2 CDKey Check
Failed to authenticate the disc. Please insert the correct disc and try again.

The thing is the disc is sitting in the drive. So I am confused. Same result, both discs and after reinstall. I tried some other troubleshooting like updating cd drive drivers and disabling deamon tools. What else could be causing these problems?

If your got it with steam there are 3 codes

each one is a code for a diferent section

the top code is for the in game cyberous

midle code is for the extra Bonus stuff

bottum one is to register the game online with EA and Bioware

Nope, CD from gamestop. I have the three codes, but i am positive and triple checked i entered the right ones and did it correctly. Doubly sure since i already registered the other two codes and they were accepted. Just for added info, using Vista SP1.

I had the same thing, I had to remove the disc2 and put disc1 to make the thing works. In fact, it's the CD CHECK for copy protection that tells that.

Well that's great, unfortunately for some of us the problem still persists and I can't continue on my 60 femshepard from ME1, Please bioware we need some answers or some fixes to this issue, I also have to wonder if this securom write protection crap, picks up on Image mounting software like Daemon tools, I deleted it, uninstalled Mass Effect 2, installed Mass Effect 2 again, and still the same issue,

No, I'm not using an Illegal copy, if one was to view my forum on the bioware website they will clearly see I've purchased almost every game they have developed (with the exception of that terrible sonic game, honestly guys what happened with that?) I have the Collectors Edition Mass Effect 2, I don't have a problem opening up and exploring each disk.

I can install all my bonus content, still have a problem with installing it to program files but apart from that, it SHOULD be working so please on behalf of those with similar issue, some ideas, work-arounds or fixes would be great.

Eh.. There's no Securom present on the retail discs. Only as Bioware says, 'a simple disc check'. This has to be an issue with a driver. If everything fails, reinstall your system, and don't start installing all kinds of junk. Keep it simple, then try again.

Oh gosh hunny, I wish that was the only issue, the point is, I don't believe re-installing my entire system should be required to fix the issue, my husband and I have many a game with more in-disc security then ME2, I am starting to wonder if their maybe either and issue with it detecting Daemon tools still on the system perhaps located in the system registry, or the fact that I've installed the game directly to my local C: rather then in Program files, that mind you isn't my fault, I'm recieving that error a few others are, which I don't have the privillages to install onto program files.

I think it is pretty crappy, that the write protection is so high that you can't even play the game when you own the disks! Are they that worried about maken a buck? Common folks get the problem fixed!

actually, after throwing the Failed to authenticate the disc error and I hit cancel, it appears to begin to load the intro movie, then quits out after a second. Tried with both disc1 and disc2.

Whoops, started a new thread for this, then found it here. Couldn't find a search on this convoluted forum. Anyway, yeah I'm ready to frisbee my ME2 discs right out the window.

Same problem. XP here, not vista. I have a bunch of the daemontools type programs, but my ME2 is a copy from Gamestop. I installed the terminus armor before ever booting up. Fails to authenticate each time. I have internet access, key is entered right...sucks.

Same problem. Same attempted solutions. Nothing has worked. Grrrrr.... Also set IDE drive to PIO mode and rebooted. Also disabled SONIC DLA properties of LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-486K DVD/CD.   Still no help.

System Specs:
One Optical drive. XP Pro SP3 (5.1.2600). Pentium D 2.66GHz (dual core); 2 GB RAM, nVidia 8500 GT (Driver 182.08; VRAM = 512 MB). DirectX 9.0c (August 2008).

Game Information:
ME2 DVD media purchased from Gamestop. Standard Edition.  Product key on manual matches Product reported reported by ME2 Configuration Utility.   MassEffect2.exe v1.00; MassEffect2Launcher.exe v1.01

Cerberus network activation code worked.  Downloaded and installed Zaeed and Normandy successfully (or so the installer says, anyway).   Dragon Age works wonderfully, btw.

Install Information:
One thing to point out. In the "Install Mass Effect 2.log" file,  I happened to find one and only one "error" reported during the installation.  Perhaps this is the source of the CD key authentication problem?    BIOWARE -- PLEASE ADVISE!

I also got this warning. but able to play normally after I put the disk to the dvd drive. My question is, do I have to put disk1 to the dvd drive everytime I start the game? Why in other games like COD or crysis etc. that you do not need to put the disk for authentication, they just play straight ahead without authenticating the disk. Is this disk authentication NORMAL to ME2? or I didn't install the game correctly. (Mine is ME2 CE)

What kind of joke is this? Just installed the game on a fresh installation of windows 7 (so, no daemons tools for instance) and I get the same message.

I can't seriously think it's because on my system drive letters are k: and l: !

It would be good to have some solution to that problem.

Belfegor, I'm a noob so just want to know, do this daemons take care of this authentication? Are you able to play ME2 if you put the disk to the drive? Can you answer my questions in my first post. I am able to play ME2 after I put the disk, but this seems weird and inconvenient. I would like to put away my disk for safe keeping and not to bother it. I am just confused. I actually reinstall ME2 but this same thing happened. I can hear Disk 1 saying " What the hell am I doing here again"? If this is "normal" then at least I will have a peace of mind. If not, then what is wrong with this scenario. Thanks for any help. And hope anybody could give light on this.
