KNOWN ISSUE.
They won't tell me if how to fix it, but they do say they have no idea whatsoever if they are working on it or not.
They also said that a bunch of people are having this issues with multiple games....
And they gave me a workaround:
Make a neaw admin account, go through the long arse process of reinstalling Mass Effect 2 and all your DLC to said account and you probably will be able to play the game.
Can someone from Bioware please tell us how to actually fix this or at least acknoledge that its being worked on?
I paid a lot of money for the game and the DLCs and not to be able to play due to a known issue that your having over multiple games is not cool.

I just fixed my game today. I bought the game and i got the failed to authenticate with both cds. It is simple, the cd protection looks at your drives and if it sees emulated drives it will block. Saw that in other games, it is not new. So the fix is simple. Deactivate all your emulated drives (deamon tool, poswer iso...) by selecting in their menu disable emulated drives. You dont even have to uninstall them. The insert disc one and there you go it will work!

In my case the fix for this problem was to disable the sysinternals process monitor which i usually use instead of windows built-in taskmanager.
I had the same issue with the same fix a few years ago with a different game on WindowsXP (now running Win7/64bit).

This is such tremendous BS. The fact that I even have to have my CD in while playing is hugely annoying, but cracking a game I bought with a no-cd patch feels insanely daft.

actually, after throwing the Failed to authenticate the disc error and I hit cancel, it appears to begin to load the intro movie, then quits out after a second. Tried with both disc1 and disc2.
This is what happens to me.

Turns out it's a good idea to use the ME2 CD and not the CD for ME1.

I probably ignored that silly statement there, a month ago, because it is so silly. Support is from EA on EA's Web Site. This is User to User discussions of tech matters, exactly as described in the forum sub-header, so expecting anyone from Bioware to wander in is merely dreaming. They don't answer here.steiner378 wrote...
This is supreme bull ****!!! We pay money for this god damn game and we cant even play because of all biowares stupid cd key checks etc. And someone from bioware wont even post to help us out. So far I am not pleased with their games and their support.
Both DA and ME2 seem to include some tricky tracks on the DVDs that may be intended to foil easy disk copying attempts. Instead, it becomes picky about the drives it will work with, forcing owners to replace hard copy game code with Digital Version code. You can use your CD-Key to unlock the digital copy at the EA store. You have to get some EA software installed first, but my drive problem only kept me from installing them on my better PCs, the ones with Plextor DVD drives, forcing me to install across the LAN from the server (file & print) PC that has a Sony DVD drive.

Sadly, they do not realize that this crap is actually ENCOURAGING piracy not STOPPING it! I know that I am seriously beginning to question the wisdom of buying games legally if I am going to treated like a criminal anyways....COME ON YOU GUYS, YOU CANT ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT THIS IS WORTH IT CAN YOU????
