1. Get the collector's edition on PS4. I got the previous ones on Xbox 360, but I want the PS4 version's

2. wait and see if I love it before deciding on the Xbone. I got all three games on PC, Xbox, and PS3, but that's only because I absolutely loved the trilogy that much, but since this one is going to be unrelated to the trilogy, I want to make sure it will be worth my money.

3. If there's a season pass, do not buy it prematurely. I refuse to get one until I decide on the game itself AND see some gameplay of its content.

2.  For goodness sake make the effort to read the codex!  There's actually some interesting stuff in there but I pout like a child and don't bother until my 2nd or 3rd run.

I usually do this. But not in DAI. DAI's codex navigation UI wasn't just not user friendly. It was hostile.

Tell me about it, it was certainly frustrating.  Trying to find a specific entry when none of the cards are titled forces you to cycle through 80 damn cards just to find the one you want.  Also I like to have the 'unread' star in the right corner so I can keep track of what I haven't read yet, but when cycling through them to find a specific entry the game would assume I'd read each one and un-star them.  I ended up with no clue what I'd read or not.

As with every Bioware game I waited a long time for and finally get my hands on for the first time I will clean my PC - desk while installing it, quivering with anticipation.

I simply hate all the dust and random objects lying around when I start a new game.

I almost never read anything by any one author on any game that I'm playing.  BioWare creates the games as a team, Any one author could potentially screw that up.

That's why I've never read a WoW book, and it could potentially be why I'm missing over 7/8 the lore.  *shrug*   If it ain't in the game, it doesn't exist.

1. Lower your expectation

2. Don't ride the hype train.

3. Expect it to be very similar to DAI

4. Screw the canon play the story you want

5. Enjoy it and skip boring fetch quests.

1 and 2. Meh

3. DA games have never seemed similar to ME games in my experience, so I personally wouldn't expect that, but you never know.

4. This is key, and I know it took me after finishing ME3 the first time to really embrace this concept.

5. I should follow this advice myself...but I'll probably still do the fetch quests lol.

I'm definately going to try to avoid spoilers. I finished DAI (and dlc) a few days ago, but spoiled myself by going through some topics on here (which was my own damn fault of course :') ). Especially the ending of Trespasser wasn't a surprise anymore because I knew of Inky losing the anchor (..and more). I still enjoyed the game a lot, but I do think the impact would've been far greater had I not known what would've happened.

I still wonder how I would react if I romanced Solas or Qun!Bull on my first playthrough. The feels would probably destroy me, haha.

1) tried it with ME3.  Still failed to meet them

2) I laugh at hype trains now

3) That would actually be an improvement

4) Wish it were that easy

5) meh

Someone's doing a thread about just that over on the DAI board.

The one that's called "nothing left in the end" or something? I've only read through it quickly, but it did give me the impression the Solasmance is probably the most dramatic (and depressing - at least for now) romance in the game. I'm eager to try it out myself and roll a Lavellan next playthrough, even though I already know how the story unfolds.

But yeah, going through a game spoiler-free for the first time is the most fun for me. Successive playthroughs have less impact and feel kind of metagame-y. I remember going to Virmire for the first time and enjoying the lovely tropical enviroment one moment, and then - woah, the drama.

Stay off of forums and social media.  Avoid guides or wiki pages.

Same rule as the last few games.

1. I'll only buy it if it's good, and if it is I'll be lavishly forthcoming with praise, word of mouth recommendations and positive reviews.

2. If I witness unacceptable comments from BioWare employees towards fellow community members, or indeed whole parts of society based on gender, race, sexual orientation etc. I'll do another chargeback.

Definitely avoid forums as they inevitably will spoil you. My exceptions are as follows:

1. Romance options- This I actually like to know beforehand, especially in Bioware games where its a pretty significant side narrative that I enjoy. I usually plan my character ahead of time and knowing who I will pair my PC up with comes in handy.

2. Class/Class based abilities- Like the romance thing I like to plan what type of character I'll be rolling. This is especially important for my first run as I want to know the class I'll be able to pick up and enjoy from the get go.

Other than that I'll be going in blind and prefer it that way. I tend to be more explore heavy and have that 'new eyes' experience the first time around anyway.

t with myself about the internet. Leave this site 1-2 weeks before the game's US release (earlier if there's major leaks etc). Don't touch other sites (especially Youtube!) until I've finished a playthrough. Youtube spoiled a few Fallout 4 things for me, even though I wasn't even looking for FO4 related stuff. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for spoilery titles (putting 'spoiler' next to the spoilery title doesn't help...) and spoilery thumbnail.

2) I'm not going to search for information on companions. I've gotten pretty bad lately, searching for info on where they turn up and when, so that I don't miss them. Checking approval, romance, personal quests etc. This time, I'll make do with knowing basic stuff: names, romance options, class etc. It could be a little risky, but it takes some of the magic away when I know too much in advance.

3) For the game itself, no metagaming on choices and dialogue. I pick the option that feels right for my character's personality. Take my time and make it feel natural. If there's no paragon/renegade system, it'll help, because I won't worry about being penalised for not sticking to a rigid system. I was good with this in DAI, only one choice where I flip-flopped and reloaded. Everything felt really smooth and right for my character.

4) Reading the codexes is a good one, I need to do it. I didn't much in DAI because the allcaps was bothering my eyes.

Yes to all these things.  It didn't happen to me on YT until DA:I where idiots would spoil so much in the space of one little video title.  There it was popping up in my recommended list.

It's the eternal dilemma, searching enough so you don't miss things, but not too much to spoil stuff.  On the one hand you could miss a great cutscene or moment with someone, but then learning how to get it spoilers you.  Maybe there should be a thread full of 'if you like Sera and you want, um, some confectionary moments, then maybe you should go to Hinterlands with her when you help, errr, a person, and when, um, you're judging someone and make a nicer choice she'll like that too....'

Omg could you imagine the knots we'd tie ourselves in trying to help without giving much away?

Make the game a mystery and I'll follow it.  Kind'a makes me wonder why all the games aren't a mystery, but...  I'm no game developer.

Like a murder mystery?  If it was you'd never play it again cause you'll know who did it.

Or a 'I don't even know what this game is' mystery.  Lol can you imagine?

Journalist: 'So, tell us about your new game'

Bioware: 'Nah'

Journalist: 'But...this is a press conference, why won't you share what the game is about?'

Bioware: 'Dunno, don't feel like it'

Jounalist: 'Okay.  Huh.  Ummm.  So, er, why is swooping bad?'

Bioware: *glares at him then blows a big raspberry*

Hah, it reminds me of the 'what counts as a spoiler' gymnastics we all do when a game is released.  Is it a spoiler that Sera is a Red Jenny? Or even that she's an elf called 'Sera'? Everyone would have different opinions.

I think I got paranoid searching for companion stuff in DAI, partly because my brother managed to miss Leliana, Sten and even Fenris in the previous games. I was just thinking "that won't be me!" and religiously checking wiki pages. Especially since DAI's open world, felt like there would be more chance to miss things. Got to try harder to stop myself next time!
