Just wondering what people think, if the SR1 had the upgrades that the new Normandy got (Cyclonic Barriers, Thannix Cannons etc.) could it have pulled off the attack against the collector base?

If it could run all that tech, I don't see why not.  The only issue I see is that the SR1 probably didn't have a powerful enough drive core to run the Thanix Cannons and/or the Cyclonic Barriers.  It was a substantially smaller ship with a much smaller drive core (though it was exceptionally powerful for a ship of its size).

No way, I think.
The SR-2 has twice the size, but its engine is three times bigger. I doubt the SR-1 could sustain the tech upgrades received by the SR-2, much less fire a Thanix Cannon.

Interesting question.

Since it was smaller it would have had an easier time dodging debris.  Don't know if all the upgrades would have been installable though.

Yes.

It doesn't need the upgrades to survive the mission.  The SR2 didn't need the upgrades. Only 3 squadmates die. No big deal. The upgrades give extra ems. No big deal. The upgrades are overrated. hahaha

hm

<Assuming that SR1 and 2 are equally manoeuvrable have similar acceleration values>

I think it mainly comes down to the question whether the SR-1's ablative armour could withstand an Oculus' shot.

I'd say it could as long as it gets an equal Sialis upgrade.

Otherwise, I'm not sure -- the damage done to the SR-2 didn't seem to be that much, but we don't know how well that ship is armoured compared to the SR-1.

Considering it was specifically built to fly into a place where stealth is not an option, SR-2 should have been better armoured than the SR-1 -- even without the upgrade.

So I believe that an unupgraded SR1 would have been destroyed by the Oculi.

It is possible the SR1 makes it to the Collector ship intact (probably lose a few people).

I feel it is high unlikely that it makes it out afterwards though (sustains too much damage).

I picture the ship being too heavily damaged to make it to the Collector base....but in a last ditch effort you deploy with whomever is alive in the Mako and crash onto the surface for your final mission.

Actually, more problematic for the SR-1 than the Occulus beam weapon would be the penetration ability. That orb that went into the cargo hold would have taken a much more significant chunk right out of the SR-1. Recall also that it can do that even with the better armor.

Yes: smaller, lower profile, AFV, better interior design style :P .
