And Morrigan certainly inherited Flemeth's snark, but there's no out-trolling the master, haha!  Capt. Janeway takes no mess!

'Twould be a shame if we never got trolled by her again. If the story goes where I think it goes and we'll end up with FleMorrigan in a similar role... I'd be cool with that.

"You're required to do nothing, frail little mortal person whom I know to be of specified importance, least of all adhere to my insufferably vague foreshadowing of the... events... that shall ensue... in the near future. I assume. *mimics hearty laugh awkwardly* Am I doing this right?"

It wasn't mentioned that Dorian was pro-slavery, but Solas did pointed out his reluctance to let go of that:

Dorian: Solas, for what it's worth, I'm sorry.
Dorian: The elven city of Arlathan sounds like a magical place, and for my ancestors to have destroyed it...
Solas: Dorian... hush.
Solas: Empires rise and fall. Arlathan was no more "innocent" than your own Tevinter in its time.
Solas: Your nostalgia for the ancient elves, however romanticized, is pointless.
Solas: If you wish to make amends for past transgressions, free the slaves of all races who live in Tevinter today.
Dorian: I... don't know that I can do that.
Solas: Then how sorry are you?

I seem to have glossed over that banter, thanks. At least it was indeed acknowledged by a few.

When my friendly Quizzy brought up the subject he dropped this gem:
"Back home, it's… how it is? Slaves are everywhere. You don't question it. I'm not even certain many slaves do. Some slaves are treated poorly, it's true. But do you honestly think inescapable poverty is better?"

And when I told him that "At least they have a choice" he disapproved. Like, wut. You'll need a lot more snark for me to compensate for that one, bud.

I image my Male Cousland would be turned on by that, he'd be watching from the background, laughing at the poor soul that got to be his mistress punching bag and be glad it wasn't him.

I hate to break it to you, but Morrigan will never be a companion again. Morrigan possibly has Kieran to take care of, plus she was a romance option, so BioWare will likely finally finish her romance with the Warden. She'll probably go off to find the Warden if you romance her.

We did get Morrigan during What Pride Had Wrought, even if we couldn't control her and had no need to heal her.

For me, it's so hard to pick any one ensemble, but it would have to go as: DAI > DAO > DA2.

DAO: The originals.  Morrigan, conflicted as my canon Warden ended up feeling for her, is such a great character.  Leliana, Alistair, Sten, too.  With the exception of Alistair throwing a tantrum if you don't immediately rush to execute Loghain, I love pretty much everything about Alistair.  Sten's story, like Blackwall's, is fascinating for the philosophical questions it brings about.  And of course, Zevran is endlessly entertaining, and his backstory is wonderful.

I think one of the things that makes DAO stand out from the others (particularly DA2) is that each character's backstory is so well-developed and nuanced.

The only DAO character with whom I never had strong feelings was Oghren and perhaps Shale-- but I picked up both of them late in the game, and never really had much time to get to know them, really.

DAI: The first one I played.  Dorian is probably one of my favorite VG characters ever, Cassandra is my favorite LI in the DA series, and Varric is even stronger in DAI, imo.  Oh, and, um this minor character named SOLAS aka BEST EVER.

Spoiler
Also, his location-specific comments, and his general philosophy on life is pretty much everything I agree with.  I disagreed with him on one or two quests, but other than that, Solas is like bromance 500 for my Inquisitor.

Cole is fascinating-- someone above commented on how they use him as a narrative device to develop backstories, right on, that's brilliant.

Blackwall's banters are wonderful ("there can only be one" with Sera is amazing), and his character raises such interesting philosophical debates.  I still go back and forth on them in my head.

The only character I can never warm up to (can anyone?  I'm genuinely asking, I would love a reason to like her/sympathize with her) is Vivienne, and I tried so hard to like her.  I put her in my party in my most recent PT and her first banter, she insulted Varric for no reason whatsoever, in her typical fashion. GET OUT VIV.  YOU'RE GONE NOW.  Also,

Spoiler
But seriously, I can't find anything likable out her, and I'm trying.

The banters in DAI are so strong, too.  Solas and Iron Bull discussing politics and philosophy (and playing chess!), Cole eventually growing on Cassandra, Dorian & Sera realizing they love each other, etc.  It's all so lovely and wonderful, and I love how the relationships grow throughout the story.

tl;dr: I love all of DA :) , cheers

Beautifully put, especially about our companions! Did you get to the Solas/Bull chess match? It's brilliant and weirdly sweet. I also heart Cole so much -- he's my favorite party member (I had to force myself to stop bringing him every time because he seems to monopolize the banters). I actually do like Viv, but she's a tough nut to crack. She's at her most (semi) adorable with Bull, when she spends her time gently harassing him, asking him to repeat dance steps, and being generally the Queen of Everything.

DAO has Sten. That's all the favorite you need from that game.

Yes! Sten have humour. And dont boring. Yay, i'm not alone! :)

I am one of the few, the proud, but yes, I adored Sten. Still do. See also my many posts on the subject. I thought his backstory as PTSD/traumatized was genuinely interesting with tweaks (I retcon his massacring a family over a sword, let's just say), and I loved the character's development through DAO and especially Mark Hildreth's performance as the voice actor. I was also very saddened by the character's palpable limitation by the Qun; so many times you can sense that he wants to express loyalty or affection yet he cannot do so within his very limited parameters. Makes me all the happier Bull got away.

By the end of DAO, even damaged, Sten was by far my favorite character, followed by Zev, Morrigan, Alistair, Leliana and Shale. And later, when Bull called my romanced Quizzie (or Dorian, in an alt-universe) "Kadan," I was so moved, remembering Sten. It was like a better, sweeter outcome of what Sten might have found if he had been more trusting. (I totally played like my Warden loved him.)

2 just because of Isabela, Fenris, Varric, and Merril, I always had some sort of combination of those....

I voted DAI. The bond between the whole group felt weaker than DA2, but maybe that's because it's not a personal story. The individuals however, include many characters I absolutely adore. Even the ones I'm not so keen on have their moments.

DA2 comes close behind, but the unbridled venom between some of the characters is off-putting. Plus, Anders is always there. Even if I avoid him for most of the game.

I like the DAO cast. Don't feel as attached to most of them though.

For me DA:I won.
It had Leliana in a big role, albeit in a new type of role. So a favourite from Origins moved over.
It had Varic who was really the only NP character I liked well in DA2.
It had Morrigan who I hate as a person but love as a character and want to see more of.
It had Alistair make a cameo or 2 and he's grown a pair of balls! Guess a decade in power gets him used to the power. Mind you as my world state had never saved from DA back in 2009 when I originally played it I had to suffer seeing him with that ****** Anora as his Queen. Can I really face replaying 150 odd hours again (inc DLC's) so I can import a world state with King Alistair and Queen Dekra? Hmmm, yes lol, I guess it has more than one advantage.
It has Cullen. I hated Cullen in DA:O as I wanted to slap his snivelling face and as a result I resisted romancing him at first in DA:I but I now regret that. My husband has always said I'd not have liked him if I'd met him 10 years earlier so I now give young Cullen the benefit of the realisation he was probably dealing with PTS in Origins and I admire older Cullen who while still a stick in the mud during DA2 grew and developed his own sense of right and wrong so that by the time of Inquisition while yup still a bit of a stick in the mud he's a thoroughly decent stick in the mud - and hot too! On the desk? Right now? Yes please! I really hope Cullen can have a playable character in 4 but I don't see it unfortunately, not with him not being in the Tresspasser epilogue scene but Scout Harding is!
It has Dagna :) she makes me laugh and I love continuity of characters, even minor ones.
It has Dorian, what more can I say? Oh yeah, it also has Bull and they make the cutest couple ever.

For hated cast members I'd send Sera to the deep roads with Sten and most of the non-Hawke family DA2 main characters (Varic and Aveline being the exceptions) and beg them to take Anora with them. So yeah, DA:I closely followed by Origins then 2 a mile behind.

Dream cast for 4? Cullen (playable), Alistair (in an advisor type role), Bull and Dorian, Varic. As for player character, I'd love to see Queen Dekra Theirin (neé Cousland), Dekra Hawke and Comtesse Dekra Rutherford (neé Trevelyan) all be importable characters. The Inquisitor would need to take an advisors role I think, due to the arm and the other Solas-related issues but Hawke isn't too well known to Solas if at all and the Warden not at all.

Aeryn Sun takes no mess, neither, fwiw, LOL

I couldn't pick one ensemble. I could pick a group I'd love to chill with, adventure with, kick a** with, but not from one specific game. I think DAO companions were more three dimensional, but Fenris (okay, more like Gideon Emrys, but tomayto/tomahto, lol) Zevran (once modded so his arc doesn't glitch) and Alistair *le sigh* have some of the deepest stories. If Fenris wasn't so *I'm here to embody slaves so everything I do and say has to do with slaves and evil mages* he'd have been even more compelling, imo.

Aveline, omg, FTW and Isabela too. Dorian, hands down, gotta be there, must be there, and Varric too (though I think he's much shallower in DAI, like his DA 2 character better). Honestly, that would be it, my fav ensemble cast. Not that I didn't like the rest, just not nearly as much as these 7. I'll tell you a character I would like to see, though, is Rhys - in the game.

Okay, there are a few characters I didn't like, at all, that just really put me off: Vivienne, Sera, and Sebastien. I found all of them distasteful, some to a lesser degree (Sebastien) some more (Sera) but didn't do anything beyond what was needed to resolve their personal quests/get rid of them. The only reason I even tolerated Sebastien was because his DLC had the best items to sell-glitch for gold, lolol.

For me DA:O won over DA:I by a bit. Going into their background, tie in to the story, the awesome party banter, and probably the nostalgia factor. I really enjoyed seeing how my favorite characters from DA:O evolved in DA:I.

Companion faves:

DA:O- Alistair, Morrigan, Leliana, Sten.

DA:2- Varric by far the best here, Bethany, Fenris and Anders bickering was fun to watch.

DA:I- Bull, Dorian, Varric and Cassandra duo, Solas, Cullen (not a companion, but loved him in all three).

And wanted to point out- Cullen is in the Trespasser epilogue. He is in mine anyway.

Fenris wasn't all slaves and magic. He likes apples and hates fish. He doesn't like being condescended to (by Hawke, by humans, by the Dalish...). He snerks when Isabela tries to, uh, liven up Aveline's sex life. He explores his faith and belief in the Maker over the course of the game. He thinks Bethany would look pretty in an Orlesian dress and wonders whether Aveline and Donnic plan to have children. He understands Qunari culture better than anyone else in the game. He's multilingual and speaks least three languages despite being illiterate. He tolerates Hawke's dick jokes remarkably well.

He's a nuanced guy. :P

I think I'd go with DAO, by a slightly small margin over DAI.

Maybe it's because of that whole camping fire, small, and at first, common people vibe. I mean - it's just a bunch of gals and guys doing their best, they aren't important to the world at all.

So, yeah...?

Is he? I've looked so many times on you tube and never seen him. I've not completed the end of my own Tresspasser as I can't yet decide the way I want to leave my cannon. Got the wedding ring, had a spa, ran around being silly, went to the opera, jumped through a lot of Eluvians but still can't decide....

Ok I am off to go look at that final cut scene for Cullen and hope you are right!

I don't normally like being wrong but just now I am over the moon. OMG I am such a fan girl, has been making me feel physically sick thinking about no more Cullen and for nothing. I've now got my Origins world state saved after a fresh play through with most of it the way I wanted and I'm now doing a fresh DA2 play through ready to build up to a whole new DA:I play through. The next few weeks until my new job starts suddenly seems more worthwhile.

I really like all the casts in these games but DAI is to me the more evolved one. So here's to them!
