You can buy the DLCs through Origin (I did, for my ME3.) once you have the base game, but the currency for the DLCs will still be BioWare points. (No idea why this is even a thing.) BioWare's website is also an option, especially if you don't have the game on Origin. (Like I have ME2 on Steam.) I'm not sure if the price is any different for different countries. I assume it's the same for everyone on both Origin and BioWare store.

As Vanilka said you can buy through Origin.
If money is an issue then I'd personally recommend these -
For ME2 Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival are the most crucial. Now I love Project Overlord but it isn't essential to the story, so you could skip it if you need to save cash.
For ME3 you can miss Omega. It's 2 and a half hours of combat combat combat with hardly any story. Leviathan has lots of info about the ending and Citadel DLC is a lot of fun so go for those 2 and skip Omega if need be. And don't forget to download the free Extended Cut ending, it's crucial. CRUCIAL. ![]()

Yeah, I swear I feel like I must have paid more for the DLCs than I did for the base game. Definitely expensive. As far as I know, the DLC prices haven't been changing, either. Sorry about that. ![]()
I think what ArcadiaGrey suggests is for the best, though. If you can't afford to buy them all, Arrival and Shadow Broker are definitely the most important for ME2, I agree. Kasumi and Overlord are fun extras, but not as important. And for ME3, From Ashes, if it's not a part of your game already. (Extended Cut is a must, but that's fortunately free.) Leviathan offers some insight into the Reapers and is, in my opinion, well made. The Citadel is a matter of taste. It's really heavy on fanservice and humour and it's quite out of place in the Reaper war, but because I love the characters (which the DLC focuses on) and it's, for me, a lot of fun, I enjoyed it a great deal. Not necessary, though. Omega is another fun extra that's not really necessary.
I suppose having some DLCs is still more extra fun content than having none. ![]()

Same here, but luckily I only got in to ME in April so the base games were super super cheap. That meant the cost of the DLCs just made the games regular price when added on. I've never seen them on sale.
I forgot about From Ashes, yeah, you'll need that. Though I'm not Javik's biggest fan lol. If you're not fond of the characters and are in it more for the combat then yes, you can skip Citadel. But blimey I love all of them, and also like the Arena, so I like it a lot too. ![]()
There's always Youtube. You could experience Leviathan on there, and the ending of Omega, without needing to play them.

They can always be bought gradually, too. I only had Arrival during my very first playthrough. Didn't even have Shadow Broker. And I thought that was pretty fine. I added more DLCs later. It at least gave me a reason to play the games more times to experience all the new content. ![]()
The thing with Javik is that he offers a lot of insight on Protheans and Reapers and such. He was originally meant to be in the base game, but the content was cut because they lacked time or something. Thessia plays very differently with Javik in the group. I understand not having some big love for him, though. He does have a rather specific type of personality. I admit I love his sass and I feel for him.
Omega DLC was special to me, despite being an extra, because I love Aria T'Loak and it also has a badass female turian biotic and when I saw her for the first time, I was like, "(GASP) A turian woman... A cool one." That was a huge deal for me. I need more turian ladies in my ME games.

Lol you too? When I started up Omega and saw a female Turian my jaw fell, I was so damn happy to finally see what they looked like. Maybe I just wanted to know what my competition was for Garrus. ![]()
I know Javik is important, I know I know, but he's a ******. When he made fun of Vega's cooking he stepped over the line...
And you're right about LoTSB, it's not really required story wise. Last run I missed it deliberately because my Shep thought Liara was weird. He never found out the truth about his body being located, never knew he had to thank her for it, and on the flight deck of the Normandy when EDI mentioned Liara was the Shadow Broker he was like 'What? When did that happen?' Which was very cool.
Something I love about some of Bioware's DLCs. Not only do they reference the fact you played them, they sometimes reference the fact you didn't.

Yes, they work for ME2 and ME3. I bought them myself.
I'd like to slightly disagree with the recommendations: Kasumi is the most important DLC in ME2 in my opinion. It'll give you one squadmate and the best weapon in the game. As for the others, in order or relevance: Lair of the Shadow Broker, Arrival and Overlord. Every one of them impacts the story of ME3.
DON'T FORGET to download the free DLC, like Zaeed and Normandy Crash site!
If you can't but all the DLC right now, you should buy the ones for ME2, complete them, and only buy the ones for ME3 when you're close to the end of it.
Also, don't miss the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for ME3. It'll give you the most important DLC (a squadmate) for a fraction of the price in Bioware points. And it's on sale right now:

I think you make a good point, spockjedi. I recommended the (paid) DLCs as regards their relevance to the overall plot. I admit I didn't think of weapons and equipment at all. (Plus, Kasumi's DLC is really fun to play, too.)

I did ten trilogy runs, so I had to buy all of them...

Something that added replay value to the trilogy for me was buying the DLC over a period of time rather than all at once. I would play the base game, decide if I like it, then buy a DLC and play again. If I liked the DLC, if I thought it was worth the money, then I would buy another DLC and play the game again. So each new DLC led to a new playthrough.
But, if you can get them on sale you might as well get them altogether.
Actually, Bioware was fortunate that I bought the DLC and I was happy to pay them since I bought my games used and Bioware never saw any of that money. At least they got my money for the DLC.

You can actually purchase only the absolute amount of points needed for the main DLC through Amazon. They offer the exact point bundles for all main story DLC for ME2 and 3. After purchase you received the code that you input into Bioware's older social network site to log the dlc and it auto downloads in the origin client after you use the points to purchase the actual DLC.
Edited post because price list wasn't accurate, I listed the price it would have cost me from the only dlc I needed not the total amount of all dlc.
