Just booted up the trespasser dlc and I am at the beginning of it. I was given a chance to talk to my companions and finished all of their cutscenes.

But was that it? When I click on them, they just go like inquisitor, good to see u, I'm here if u need me, all that stuff.

I thought I am able to have in depth conversations with them like in skyhold before beating the elder one.can someone tel me what am I doing wrong? Thanks.

You've already talked to them as much as you can then if you've done all the cut scenes. Sometimes they might have something when you return to the winter palace.

There's the initial ones you can have at the start, then they all have another conversation once you move on a bit. And there is banter with the ones you take with you on quests.

Yeah they mostly only talk on the quest not so much at the palace itself some may have things to say as you work through the dlc but you'l need to check back in with them once you do some more.

The only companion I can't get any conversation with is Varric...just 'i'll be here if you need me'

Whether you get their initial dialogues/cutscenes in Trespasser depends on your approval rating from the main game. In one game, I didn't have high enough approval with Sera so just got a basic hello, no cutscene. Perhaps that is your issue with Varric?

Also for Varric, I think you have to encourage him to help Kirkwall after the main campaign. I had one playthrough where Varric and I were bros, but I told him to write his next book, and in Trespasser I didn't get his cutscene. :/

^Same with my Dalish female mage. She wanted him to stay there though. She didn't complete his Bianca quest though.

As for the topic, what everyone else said.

I will just add that there are blots of light that appear in specific locations where party banter is triggered when you "talk" to them. They only appear if that character is in your party. There is also bonus banter based on if other characters are in the party as well. Like The Iron Bull's first banter spot is in the first level in the first room to the left. He says his line, and if Dorian is there then he'll say something too, and The Iron Bull will respond to that as well.

Same with those like Cassandra and Varric, or Sera and Spirit Cole.

Ok, i'll use the Kirkwall option this time with Varric as I also told him to keep writing before.

I don't think that's going to be of any help.

Did you do his personal quest?

Nope, if he doesn't talk to you then you didn't do his personal quest (the one called "Well...Sh*t"). It doesn't matter what you tell him to do at the end of Inquisition, as he'll always go back to Kirkwall to help with the reconstruction regardless.

That's the problem :)
