It seems more people are more concerned about Mass Effect being a dating simulator than a proper scifi game.

Take the bloody romances out already. Tired of all this SJW crap seeping its way in. ME1 and KOTOR are the best games bioware made.

I don't know about those being the best, but I'll agree with your main point. Getting sick of it.

KOTOR II was made by Obsidian. Or are you referring to SWTOR?

Yeah, I remember hating on Obsidian for awhile because of the end. That and NWN2. Then NV warmed me up to them again.

I heard it got fixed though..

I'm with the idea that future BioWare games should be written around the character and not the world. I think they are just far superior to the vast open world ones BioWare have started to delve in to. That is not where their strength lies, and I'll fight any man that says different. Unfortunately, and I'm hoping ME:A proves me wrong, but I think the advancement in technology has allowed BioWare to reach the point where they think "bigger is better", which it's not, and that's been proven in some of the brilliant games released recently that last a fraction of the time a BioWare game usually does.

I really hope they take that idea from dragon age and the emotional wheel (bioware pls).

I strongly disagree. This move of theirs toward a cinematic character-centric story-based game has been a mistake, starting with KotOR.

They should build a great world (with a great ruleset), let us design our own character as much as possible, and drop us in it with little or no guidance.

Starting with Kotor? That's practically ancient at this point.

They had dnd for their ruleset before, so I think it worked well enough in crpg form. And then Brent Knowles onwards into DAO. But they got rid of him.. and yet you seem to praise DAI, which is a joke.

What does this actually have to do with what Sylvius said? Why do people view Brent Knowles as more important than James Ohlen on what was advertised as a BG spiritual successor?

Because he was the man behind their combat after moving away from DnD. But they moved towards action rpg with DA2. And even moreso with DAI. Yet he praises that, as if it's some serious RPG.

I didn't Knowles dug that, good for him.

Assuming you meant Sylvius here, I highly doubt that he's praised DAI for action rpg mechanics.

I honestly think it doesn't matter in the end.

Probably not.

I just hope more (AAA) companies make RPGs. Then I wouldn't even think about it much. I'd just move on.

They'll all be action rpgs too. Dragon Age didn't move towards that because Laidlaw just felt like it or something.

I don't mind that myself. I like DA2 for what it was. I just thought it funny that Sylvius seems to want a purist approach, but he thinks DAI is a step in the right direction.

I think it'd have been better if Knowles stayed though.

Slyvius' opinions are pretty specific, he's not talking about combat or character building when he's saying DAI is step forward. But then again I don't like speaking for him.

I never care for the "if x developer stayed I would have gotten the game I wanted" arguments.

I never made that argument. You jumped in and I don't think we started on the right foot.

I like DA2. If you know me at all, I talk about it often in those sections.

I only think he should have stayed because he was a bit harsh. They could have used his experience, even while moving towards ARPG.

As for Sylvius, then I don't know what he means when he says "ruleset", if he doesn't mean combat. Because that's what it often is in RPG terms.

I think the biggest problem I have with DAI is that the story is too short. I play Bioware games for storyline, and it's too short for the main quests. Bethesda is not a story focus game, but FO4 did a very good job at integrating some aspects of it into the open world, but they're master at doing it.

I wasn't really calling your taste into question but he didn't want to stay because it was moving towards but him staying wouldn't have mattered because iirc he was being shut out anyways.

I know what a ruleset is, I'm just saying that those aspects of DAI aren't what makes Slyvius prefer to it most post Kotor BW games.
