I do hope they do away with the 8 ability limit and bring back tactics for the next installment. I love DAI, but those are two things about it I definitely don't love.

Not for me, I really enjoy making, then playing, characters. I don't get that out of lets plays. I do space my playthroughs out, take a break between characters to play something else etc. so that I don't get bored with the combat/etc and ruin my enjoyment of my new pc's story. Beaten the game 3 times so far.

But I can see how someone who liked the story but not the gameplay would prefer watching videos.

I dont like watching people play games. If I like the type of game I will play it myself. If I dont I will just not watch anything about it at all.

Having played dao and da2 also, I feel like their type of combat is slow and boring now. I much prefer dai's combat. Sure it is easier an dyou always spam the mouse button or the same moves, but at least it feels more dynamic.

Thats just my opinion though :P

The choices don't really matter in the end. You know that, right? :D It kinda all ends up sorta the same. It's a problem with many games nowadays, not just Bioware's. (Telltale games come to mind)

That's not the point. We have the phrase "Can't unsee" for a reason. I still regret watching the two negative Dorian romance choices in my own game -- yes, even though I reloaded and picked the good one -- and the only reason I even did that was to have a full understanding of his reactions during that scene, particularly as I continually write and talk about him, so I wanted that knowledge. But I wasn't happy with having to watch it.

Not to mention choices can also be their own reward. The choices I made as an Andrastian human and a Dalish elf were completely different experiences.

I just had a look at that video, and honestly, it looks incredibly boring. I'd rather just spend 190 hours playing the game, with a character that doesn't look like complete crap. Maybe if the character was actually nice to look at, and if there wasn't thousands of different choices one could make in the game, it'd be enjoyable.

As for watching someone else play a game - wherein the video isn't purely cinematic and/or main story scenes - an ugly character might be OK, as long as the person has some interesting/funny commentary or insight on it.

Unimportant side note: I also didn't like how the guy made a comment in his video, referring to the options as renegade and paragon options. That really gets up my gullet, because the Mass Effect series is one of the few video game series (possibly the only one) that actually refer to the choices you make as being "paragon" or "renegade," and of course, nowhere are those words used to describe choices in Dragon Age.

I think this depends on the type of game. There is a YT person who makes Assassin's Creed and Uncharted "movies" which I found highly enjoyable, but those are fixed characters with limited choices, so it really works for those franchises. And you can tell that the person made the effort to do trial runs through all of the combat and gameplay portions so there isn't a bunch of standing around or "oops" moments (missing jumps, falling off things, and so on), so it turns out very movie-like.

But with a heavily choice based RPG like Dragon Age? Nope, not interested in the least.

Yes. The lack of fetch quests and loading screens make gathering material for a story more pleasurable, and I can listen to the dialogue whilst doing more productive things.

No, I was referring to YouTube videos that aren't "movies". I meant it might be fun to watch an ugly character if the video didn't cut out the gameplay, and the uploader made sure to comment and make the "non-movie" scenes enjoyable for me, the viewer.

Because I don't want to be looking at a gross character throughout the "movie", and if you ignore that, what else is left (for me) to watch, since we're not including the gameplay? Probably nothing.

I agree that a set PC and set choices can be interesting to watch, and part of that is because it feels like you're watching a movie in video game form, since there's no choices to be made (if that makes sense).

With most games, no. With DA:I...that's a tough one. I found the combat and "exploration" a total chore and the power requirements forcing me to slog through so many boring fetch quests and closing rifts over and over made me want to beat my head against the wall. On the other hand I like making my own character and choosing my own dialogue and romance rather than watching someone else's. Usually I play through a game enough times to do a different romance on each character but in DA:I I just couldn't do it any more so I watched some of the romances on youtube. I also had to watch a youtube video with all the party banter since I wasn't getting it on my actual playthroughs.

I can't say I can agree, but I wish I could. You'll save a lot of money in the future by watching games' stories on YouTube instead of shelling out money for basically unknown games.

Yes.
I also watched the complete playthrough on video format, which was basically focused only on the cutscenes (one story for an "evil Inquisitor" and one for a "good Inquisitor" ) so it was funny, because i skipped all the boring combats and all the fetch quests farming.
Given the fact that the game is silent most of the time during the exploration i enjoy the commentary of the youtubers during their playthrough.

Or, you could do both. Watch a game's story on the YouTubes, then shell out money for the previously unknown game. Otherwise, you might as well watch movies or T.V. instead. I mean, if you're only going to watch the story of future games, anyway.

Spoiler

Pretty sure the OP beat you to it. =)

Omg that's almost exactly how I feel about DA:I. The combat is so boring. DA:O with the advance tactics mod makes this game look like a third rated action RPG. We have so little control over companion behaviors on the battlefield...Plus, I have to press a button for each and every attack OR switch into an extremely awkward "tactical mode" for auto attack? That annoyance alone bored me immensely. Also, rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts,rifts..."sigh"

I like making my own character and choosing my own dialogues/romances too, but we can actually see all the different choices on YouTube as well, so... :D

The writing is fantastic though, really enjoyed it a lot.

PS: I played/watched the game like a few months after it came out, so I don't know if they added an auto attack feature later on. But if they did, then it's definitely a plus :)

If it were actually a movie then it might be enjoyable, but watching someone elses' decisions in a Bioware game is really annoying.

I wouldn't want to watch someone elses' choices because it might make me pull my hair out :P, the gameplay of Origins does deter me from replaying the game.

In a game like this I don't think I could watch it. The game is terribly tedious a majority of the time when doing sidequests and just thinking about the temple key shards pisses me off, but I like to see the character I made get through the actual fun parts of the game and do different decisions.

The only game I ever watched completely on youtube was The Last of Us since I don't have a PS3 or 4 and never will.
