Did Bioware hire new writers for DA:I?

I haven't finished the game, but I've been very impressed by the topnotch writing displayed so far.

I think DAI has the best writing and storytelling in all Bioware RPGs. It even feels like a step up from extremely well written previous games such as DAO and ME2.

To be honest I'm pleasantly surprised by this. ME3's quality of writing was shockingly bad, juvenile, inconsistent, plain, and contradictory. I really did not expect DAI to turn out like this. I had not even played DAI until last week because I thought its storytelling would be as bad as ME3.

I especially love all the politics and schemes in DAI since I was disappointed when ME3 skipped whole explanations for the reaper invasion and Shepard's trial because writers felt 'gamers will want to jump right into action' as one of them said in an interview.

Did Bioware hire some new writers for the game? Or did the old writers from DAO and ME2 outdo themselves? I'm very curious. You don't know how much relief I felt when I realized DAI doesn't treat gamers like drooling idiots waiting for some flashy actions to happen on the screen as Bioware did with ME3 and went even further with ME3 DLCs.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age have never had the same writers, although there has been some crossover. The two franchises have always had separate teams.

Perhaps ironically from your perspective, two of the writers added to the Dragon Age writer's pit for Inquisition had previously worked on Mass Effect - Patrick Weekes and Sylvia Feketekuty. The other new addition was Brianne Battye. I don't think she'd worked on any previous BioWare games.

The rest of the writing team consisted of people who had worked on DAO and DA2 - namely lead writer David Gaider, Mary Kirby, Sheryl Chee and Lukas Kristjanson.

Anyway, I agree that Inquisition has great writing :) .

ME and Dragon Age ae rworked on by different teams for the most part yes theresometimes crossovers bu they aer generaqlly different teams. Whilst Bioware's main focus now may be shifted to dealing with ME andromeda in the babackground somewhere there'll be a team working out what to do with the next Dragon Age DA4 or whatever it ends up being named.

If I had any hope Bioware could do something good to the franchise in future games I would probably hate you for praising such awful writting. But since it is been downhill since 2010, it became awful enough for me to stop caring and focus on mocking, go ahead, give child-like complexity plot an Oscar and make them believe IB and Cole are not reason to quit writting... and since you're such a tank for awfulness read the books (take something to avoid awfulness induced coma, not even a golem can resist such punishment)

Nice to see the New Year getting off to a civil and reasonable start... Come on man, I don't think much of the writing in Inquisition either, but that attack on the OP was completely uncalled for.

The thread here has all the information available on the Sekrit New IP - which is pretty much nothing, other than 'David Gaider is the lead writer and took the whole Dragon Age writer's pit with him to the new project.'

(Other than Patrick Weekes, who is alone in the DA office playing with Lego and going gradually insane from the solitude :) .)

yeah I thought it was a pretty solid story as well. The fight with Corypheus could have been moer challenging than it was but in general I was pretty happy with it as it's become one of my favouriet games lately so I've managed to overlook any of the weak points it may have anyway.
