So I finally successfully solo'ed platinum on Giant, against Reapers, with Flamer Geth Soldier after failing a hundred times. It was meant to be easy, but I had kept on losing connection to the server or getting sync'ed on wave 11. It was totally bull.

 

I believe I've learned a few valuable lessons on using hard covers, to pass on to those who have not had their pen15 enlargement done yet.

 

I will put my build at the end. This is foremost about the aforementioned lessons.

 

 

 

Hard Cover Usage

 

1) Try to minimise the amount of time you spent out of hard cover even when you feel safe. This can save your life in case you inadvertently let a Pyro sneak up behind you.

 

2) A Brute blocked your path? No worries. Lean against the wall next to you to minimise your frontal profile and slide across. EZ PZ.

 

3) Dash from cover to cover. Assess the situation before you head for the next cover. I see so many players running frantically towards the most secure position on the map without due regard to the actions of the enemy. There may already be Atlas rockets, Banshee Warps in the air, or Turrets set up in your intended path.

 

4) The instant you're entering a cover from standing position, you have almost 100% damage reduction and speed boost. You can use it to defend against annoying things like Combat Drone rockets and Atlas rockets.

Flamer => 6

Fortification => 6

Hunter Mode => 0

Networked AI => 6

Advanced Hardware (fitness) => 6 (all defensive)

 

Equipment

 

Warp Rounds 4

Assault Rifle RA 3

Cyclonic Modulator 4

Armoured Compartments 5

 

Weapons

 

Collector Assault Rifle 10

Extended Barrel 5 (+25% damage)

Piercing Mod 5 (+65% armour piercing)

 

Acolyte 10

Heavy Barrel 5 (+40% damage)

Power Magnifier 5 (+30 power damage)

The Geth soldier is a great character for platinum solo, as he has both tankyness and very high dps. As for your build, I would however change from 66606 to something like 66554. With the last one, you get all possible boosts to power damage + the ability to see through walls, which IMO is more useful than 250 additional shields (on a character who has almost 3000 already with a cyclonic 4).

 

Also, why the Collector assault rifle ? It's too heavy for what it brings, and you don't really need it on a Geth trooper spamming Flamer. If you want something that can pierce, a Hurricane with ULM (or a Collector SMG) will do the job better, while giving better cooldowns.

I use it to take down Turrets from a long range. Hurricane is a bit inaccurate. Harrier is too cliche. My Lancer is only one level 3, so it has roughly the same stats as Collector Rifle.

 

But Hunter Mode halves your shield though.

Hunter Mode takes half of your base shields, meaning 500 points.  It does not take anything you gain from Fitness or Cyclonics.  Situational awareness is a tremendous advantage, especially in solos, so Hunter Mode is not something to spec out of.

 

You could put Geth Scanner on Geth Trooper, since it is solo no one will be there to laugh at you.

Cyclonic gives bonus to base, so with a 6/6/5/5/4 build and Cyclonic IV, you will have 2400 Shields and 40% Damage Reduction from Fortification.  And be able to see through walls.  And additional Power Damage for your Flamer.  And some accuracy bonus for a Hurricane, if so inclined.

the trooper is better off with the Geth Pulse Rifle (since you're obviously using flamer)

 

against reapers you'll be using the lolcolyte a lot in gold

I'd rather take the geth scanner for my gear power amplifier 4, pistol rail amp for the acolyte, and crying rounds to weaken armour. But that's just me.

The guy who made that platinum-solo-made-easy guide recommended Acolyte only with Cryo ammo as well. But I felt like Cryo ammo wasn't much help in my previous attempts. Also, warp ammo weakens armour more than cryo ammo.

 

I required the additional Cobra Missiles because I was not confident in my ability to lure all the enemies away from objectives, so though missiles were a good insurance policy.

Disruptor ammo is much better if you use the Acolyte, Cryo does nothing for you against armor other than slowing down their moment speed, which is not really that great in this game.

Apart from how terribly I articulated my thoughts on that video the only thing I would've changed was the ammo type and to use hunter mode. I'd have gone with incendiary instead. At the time I was thinking cryo to slow enemies down cuz less experienced soloers/players might've found it more useful. I didn't have a complete understanding of shield mechanics so I assumed HM took away from overall shields. I never bothered to add any annotations on the vid

Don't forget to use the derpy looking, glued feet syndrome geth light melee when something gets close. It's great for staggering a meatbag that has already run about 10m past you.
