I'm new to the game and was curious about how I got the Golden Nug before finishing the main story, as web searches for Golden Nug indicate one character needs to finish the main missions.  I am currently at the point where I have 'Wicked Eyes' and 'Here Lies the Abyss' waiting for me.

Did they change the requirement?  If so, what is the gateway to getting access to it now?  My friend is playing and is approximately where my highest character is and still no Golden Nug.

Thanks.

Nope. One of your characters needs to finish the main story (ie kill the Elder One) for the Golden Nug to unlock. This one character then may synchonize with it in the Undercroft, upon which it will be available to any subsequent character from the moment they set foot in Haven (gameplay wise - cutscenes do not count, and as we know, the character actually wakes up in the Chantry cellar first thing in the game)

And yet, somehow I got access to Golden Nug and have not yet done 'Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts'.  Highest character is 14 I think.

Could it be because I've leveled about 5 different guys to 13-14/Skyhold?

That's very strange, you definitely shouldn't have access to it yet...

Is it possible you have some other save files on your device, from other people in your house/account playing? Or you played on someone else's device at some point? - The only thing I can think of is that there was someone else's completed save file around and it got confused. Otherwise, it sounds like a weird bug.

Do you have any extra schematics/etc from it you shouldn't have?

Facts:

1) Only I have played the game in this house, and on one PC.

2) Best I can tell, I only have the schematics I have found on my characters.

3) No characters of mine are over level 14.

4) I have not passed 'Wicked Eyes....' on any character.

5) I have never downloaded a mod or save game (I was playing original for a reason).

6) Noob to game as I've only been playing two months or so, so it's a relatively new install.

The most significant note, possibly, is that I started with the digital deluxe (no add-ons) and when I installed 'Game of the Year' over it four days ago, I got a working 'Golden Nug'.

Must have been an install miss/bug.

I see it as a 'feature'.  :)

The Golden nug is about the only way I can play an elf character - still won't be tolerable at Skyhold, but at least out in the world the non-abominable custom rig armours make it possible to play one.

Oops, still have the Nug.  I think it was not in the Undercroft in Skyhold because I had a quest on me to talk to Dagna. Nug is back.

***ORIGINAL POST***

The Nug giveth, and the Nug be taketh away.

Upon reinstall to a new PCV the game must have caught up to the mistake.  After a reinstall the Golden Nug was in Skyhold and I used it once.  Next time I came back there is a blank pad where the Nug once was.

Oh well, I still have all the stuff it transferred to my character.  :)

The nug is dependant on Internet connectivity . You have a steady connection when it appears?

Ah-ha, that is what it most likely was.  Lost connect to server.  My connect is usually up but it did go down around the same time.

Thanks!

Yeah, if the server goes down or if you lose your internet connection, you lose the nug. But you're really only ever going to use it when you find a new schematic or start a new character, so that isn't a big deal.
