I was thinking about a R9-280x for $150ish, is that good?
My GPU just died, what would you recommend PC players?

That's what I have. For that price, it's a good deal IMHO ![]()

A R9 280X is a good option, but for the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect games, I don't believe it will be able to handle the games at 60 frames and 1080p.

I have an Nvidia GTX 770, which is the equivalent of a R9 280x, and ran DAMP at 120 FPS with full details on 1080p. The R9 280x should do just fine.
I doubt the next Mass Effect will require much more power than Dragon Age Inquisition since they're on the same engine. They also have to make the game playable for PS4 and XBox One so they won't push it enough to double the graphic card workload.
If you plan on keeping your card for a long time (4+ years), you might consider going for a notch over the R9 280x just to be sure. I use this chart when I want to upgrade my graphic card. It shows how each card compares to each other. Find the R9 280x and select something 1 tier higher for long lasting performance.

My R9 280x just died after 2 days, great stuff. Never going AMD again lol. Thinking about a GTX 770/780 next

And this is why AMD sucks lol. I have never had an NVidia GPU go bad on me. You should just go 770 man. No need to go 780 unless you want them 4K graphics
but then again two 770s can do that better than one 780
I'm still running dual GTX 680s and I'm impressed at the (relevant) longevity I've gotten out of it.

I'm running a GTX 770. Its lasted longer than 2 days, so I suppose it's got AMD beat there

I just saw a bunch of all-in-one announced on CES news with Titan Z. Seems pretty cool. My laptop's 960m's fan is making some high pitch noise ever since the laptop came back from Acer repair. I hope it is not dying... ![]()

Yeah I built my own desktop a year ago and much to my regret I didn't consider cooling system very well at the time. I can hear the noise my fans produce from a floor below ![]()
Honest, if you want to build a high spec desktop, go for water cool... Unless you really don't care about living with that terrible noise pollution right next to your every single time you switch on your computer.

AMD sucks, NVidia is the way of the futureInteresting....so AMD is bad? I always thought/heard it was good, good to know.

AMD is cheaper, but not as powerful, worth the trade off if you do not care that much about framerate and running AA on X8.
If we are going to into corrupt companies etc and if that has any sway over your opinion, well then never buy Nvidia.

I am Techless, but have been using NVidia cards since '96, and have not had any problems. And as a bonus, they are easily updated, make things understandable for folks like myself, and I adore their Tweak Guides:

Great Combo. Don't listen to the people that tell you to get an i7..unless you are doing like CAD or whatever. i7 is overkill for just gamingAh, i see. So go with a intel core i5 cpu and a gtx 770 card.
