And now, you can add xenolinguistics professor to the long list of things I'd rather play than another military background.

I kind of hope they take notes and make the protagonist a combination of everything people don't want. Not you in particular but the bitching on the forum deserves some epic trolling from bioware.

Though I'm not opposed to his as While a military career won't bother me I think they should move on from that. I kind of want the character to be Daniel Jackson from stargate but in command. A anthropologist who learns to fight but gets assigned military people.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, the more they do that, the more likely I am to like it. They had me at "exploration heavy" and "mako" as it is.

That about right? :)

Exactly. Maybe hire professor elemental to play a chap hop character for the edgy character.

Probably because they are posting on a forum devoted to a game which does, I'm sure we all agree, contain more inherent violence than sex or vulgarity.

Which is a pretty reasonable assumption.

And he makes a good point too - "I morally object to swearing but I have no qualms with simulated murder" does strike me as a bit of an odd position. I agree with Han. It's kind of a weird dichotomy.

Pls read again, as I do not recall stating this at all. My Evil characters are limited to single Player games; not in m/p. And I use the available toggle to aid with Violence, and would also do so with Language (see sig).

Nobody ever says it's a good move. The question is whether it's less bad than the other available options.

Well, I think canonizing an ending would be worse than going to Andromeda. I'm no defender of the ME3 ending(s), I just think making one canon would add insult to injury.

Acknowledging that might be an overdramatic way of putting it.

Not the base human condition, what changed are merely the acceptable norms regarding sexual activity, and extreme topics like slavery for example.
And even this, only in parts of the world. (as much as some of us would like to believe it, the west is not the entire world...)

Not swearing is about restraint, politeness, or religious beliefs. If I'm not religious, don't really care about politeness at the moment,
and not feeling the need to restrain myself, why shouldn't I swear? Indeed, in every society on earth, even the "polite" ones, there are those that swear.

And I mentioned religion, because I suspect that your "colleague" in opinion in this thread is motivated by his religious beliefs.
But even if I'm wrong, there are enough religious people out there that would jump at the chance to insert their influence.

There is also legality. Depending on circumstance and regional laws, swearing can be considered verbal assault. For example, doing so on this forum may result in discipline; minor or major.

And I readily admit to being religious, but I would hope that also would not choose to swear due to civility. And again, I am not attempting to force my own beliefs on others, though I do hope that in a civil discussion forum that I would have a positive influence. However, I reduced my White Hat status a lot after turning 50 yrs old, and speak more directly now.

Profanity needs an "excuse"?

It should at least follow the rules of lore in the game itself.

Well, I for one am rather happy we aren't forcing actual people to kill themselves for entertainment anymore.

Not my point but agreed, nonetheless. Just saying people once demanded these things, but now freakout when we instead "watch" or "play" it in movies or games. Just saying we kept the need for violence but got rid of how we produce it... well, except boxing, but people die rarely now.

As for swearing, says the man who uses the C and F words... among others. Just missing XY &Z, then you'll have the whole alphabet. Oh Sandor, you're such a hound  ^_^--- whoops, I mean  uh.... -_- Sheet... rofl no you're right tho Giant. Over use of swearing is unnecessary.

Oh I could just imagine me3 if some of you lot had developed it:

"Admiral Hackett, I have successfully temporarily stunned the reapers who were attacking the forward base!"
"... well that's just darn--diddly-dang-diddly of you shepard! "

I hope ME:A not only has copious amounts of swearing, but also loads of nudity and sex.

Because I'm not 14!

This quote literally described my experiences with that game. Felt good to hear my character finally saying it like it is.

Like I mentioned before, in some situations political correctness can go to hell for all I care. If I'm in the middle of combat, or just came out of a tough fight, political correctness will be the least of my worries.

I've never been in combat whatsoever, but even on a football pitch (or soccer for the less culturally developed :P) I tend to swear once or twice in the heat of the match, and I can't imagine combat being any prettier.

Age has little to do with maturity. And subordinates in the military rarely curse to superiors in my brief experience, esp over a comm.

and you can't seem to appreciate that that is someone's favourite line and that it might be a perfect roleplay moment for some?

I use it as often as possible, myself because it is so full of emotion.

For my part, I would like the option to smoke, drink, and do drugs, preferably at the same time.

I am not a smoker in real life, but every time Piper lights up, I get a little bit jealous.

all while swearing like a sailor. that'd work.

Still use other options in dialogue.

In this instance it has a lot to do with it.
I ask again, given what mass effect is why do you play it if it has so much that offends you? Also how do you cope living in the modern world?

I have only played ME2 a single time due to such language, and thermal clip hunts. ME3 still has both problems, but to a lesser degree, and both can be generally avoided. I bench James Vega and do not use Zaeed, and avoid some dialogue choices with Aria and Jack. This info was somewhat gifted to me by Chris Priestly when I asked about these issues after launch.

In DAI, I bench the Iron Bull, Blackwall, and Sera; avoid some dialogue choices in others. And Patrick Weekes informed readers that dialogue options would be made available for that line in Trespasser.

There are no such options to avoid profanity in TW3 or the FO series, so I choose not to play them.

And I cope fairly well; avoid reading comments on youtube, and use the useful Ignore function here.

Swearing doesn't bother me. I always play with the language filters off anyways in most games.

I do as well, but with most MMO's for some strange reason I keep them on.  Just for fear they'll ban me if I use that kind'a language.  Sounds kind'a dense.   But, there ya go.

Can you explain why you have such issue with profanity and nudity, but no issue with violence?
