No. You can't enjoy both franchises, not now, not ever.

Personally believe that such characters to not need to be stereotyped into the usual mold. Not all these characters need to use profanity to make their points. In fact, in both of these examples, they seem to have a decent knowledge of their fields of expertise, and restraint in their vocabulary would also be believable to such characters. I actually prefer Jack in ME3 because of her choice to be retrained in front of her students.
And when swearing wonders from the lore and social culture of said characters, it is even less immersive. In DAI, such NPC's used phraseology that was outside the lore, and in the ME series, some aliens continued to use terms that were not of their culture. Much prefer the use of fictional slang that is proper to the setting; not some Jr HS locker-room....
I didn't really get an answer to my question.
Zaeed never exercised any goddamn restraint, and the whole funny idea with Jack was that suddenly she was forced to restrain herself because of her students (and even then she still swears supposedly out of ear shot, because her personality is chafing against such restrictions), an angle that you enjoyed and would never have been possible if she was a polite and restrained psychotic biotic to begin with. (they are both psychotic to a degree)
So my question was, would your choice be to neuter those characters of every quality that offends you, therefore making them franken-characters?
Or would you remove those types of characters entirely from the story, and use instead a variety of different takes on the stoic and funny-but-politically-correct archetypes?
I have *** no problem with it. And I also have no problem with nudity either, wink wink! After all,it's only fitting for characters like Wrex or James or Jack, what should they say after getting hit? "Oops, that hurts me rather greatly, dear sir"??

removed profanity

WELL ****!
When used wisely, it's one of the most valuable methods of characterization through dialogue there is.
That said, I think they should make the paraphrase as clear as possible when and if there's an option for the protagonist to swear.

I think that this is an important discussion to have, and that shutting it down due to site rules is petty.
Bioware games contain profanity, and if we are to discuss them, some profanity is to be expected.
This whole "you can't discuss an issue, because you can't mention it" and forcing people to perform verbal acrobatics is more
childish than any use of profanity.

I never said you couldn't discuss it. However people can discuss swearing and profanity without using swearing or profanity.

True, but it is very easy to use site rules to silence a discussion on this particular topic because of technicalities.

Hence why I put the reminder. If this discussion is an important one, then posters posting things that go against the rules are detrimental to the success and longevity of the discussion.

I see. Still, my part needed to be said as well.

I hope so. If we have to have companions that use such vernacular, at least let the player be able to avoid their own character doing so as well. I also hope such companions can be completely avoided or at least kept to a minimum, unlike for example Jack who was mandatory to recruit. Best case, we can play as a protagonist who doesn't and have enough companions who don't to make a full team.

Personally, I don't have a problem with swearing and if they want to have NPC's in the game that are fairly foul mouthed I am okay with that. As far as the protagonists go I rather not have them swear for they are to be my representative in the game and there is no real way to make sure that using stronger language is when and where I would use it. I don't swear a lot, but when I do most people take notice and for me if my representative used that type of language more freely then I do it would be the same as if I was playing a game where I didn't have the illusion of freedom that I do with BioWare games.
I also hope such companions can be completely avoided or at least kept to a minimum, unlike for example Jack who was mandatory to recruit.
I would prefer to have characters that do not use profanity.
Well, I guess we all have our quirks and preferences.
That said, I still can't understand as hard as I try, why would you give up on potentially interesting characters no matter how potentially well made they are just because of one side of their personality that you see as a flaw?
I mean, I can understand that some character quirks simply grate on the nerves of some people, but as far as character flaws go, swearing and profanity are rather minor, I can think of many characters in different forms of media that had a much more disturbing "dark side" than some mild profanity.
And I contend that there could be rich, deep characters that do not require to utilize profanity.
I do not contest your claim, but you do realize that my version is valid as well, right?
Interesting how the majority of people who don't desire such vernacular are being civil, whereas quite a few of those who do have resorted to personal insults and mocking. So much for swearing and profanity being a sign of maturity.
