Most folks do not serve in the military, yet the main is going to be N-7. Most people in the military that serve are male, yet the female perspective is also most likely to be explored. Etc

Simply because most folks use obscenities does not equate in having to include them in the game.

I'd like to hear some more alien swear words. Bosh'tet doesn't cut it for me anymore.

If humanity has been interacting with other races for centuries, and perhaps longer as of MEA, it would only make sense that some words from these languages would be adopted.  Including swearing.

Asari curse words?  Turian?  Krogan?

I'd like to hear a Krogan say, "GORRAM IT ALL!" whilst wearing a red, yellow, and orange toque then.

There's too much in this thread to care anymore, so I'll just hit a few.

Why can't you just ignore the presence of content that you, personally, find objectionable? You're not an impressionable child, and I don't get the impression that you're playing the game around children (which, if that's the case, is easily remedied). What is it about the words themselves that you can't just say "hey, that's something I'd never say or do?" or just get up and make yourself a cup of tea while an offending cutscene plays out?

For some things this makes sense. Dialogue is not one of them because it is something that will constantly be right in your face at all times. In this case "ignore" means "let slide" as opposed to "not play".

It would be better if a lot of underage kids would play one of the many games that are created for them, I think.

An option like that though? If I were a writer on a game like this, and they wanted to throw a clown filter over the (mild, let's be realistic, it's Bioware) profanity that found its way into the dialogue, I'd be livid.

As always, we need to get past this idea that it's the game developer's responsibility to play the role of parent. If the content is mature enough to get an M rating, then it's not designed for children. And if parents, knowingly or unknowingly, let it happen the onus is on them to take responsibility.

Really though, what was all that mature about the content of the Mass Effect games? I guess the woman getting melted in ME2 was pretty gruesome.

Right, it could mean so many different things. That NPC might have been suggesting there was some grass that needed watering.

I didn't know it was a real British profanity. It made sense as something bad with the Dwarves focus on stone and dust.

When's the last time you went a full day surrounded by people of multiple backgrounds and didn't hear a single cuss word?

That Elhanan dude just reported me in the Witcher thread, I think. He doesn't even like the game.. and still has time for trivial things like this?

It's OK to have opinions on profanity. But be a little more productive.. at the very least.

Lol I've been flat-out cussing and using * to self-censor since I joined this site like 3-4 months ago and it takes them this long to issue me a warning and delete one of my comments because it had one word that contained one letter followed by a few * that I specifically put in to make a point in this topic that is literally about swearing? Good job mods.

************************************************************ Uh oh, better give me another warning. That line might have a naughty word in it.

Back in 2011 when I was still working. Profanity is considered unprofessional, and while it did occur occasionally, it was not a daily occurrence. Now since I am homebound, no longer surrounded by people.

Get another job then. You have nothing better to do. That's your main problem.

I do report profanity when I see it, but I have no memory whether it was in any of your posts. I certainly do not seek out specific posters; simply attempt to clear the threads in which I utilize.

"no longer surrounded by people" Do I really need to say anything else?

Buddy, I hear and speak cuss words of varying degrees and frequency Every. Single. Day. Would you say that my real-life experiences aren't realistic?

I would say that I do not wish to share your daily experience; prefer my own.

I don't. I don't use them myself nor do I hear them very often outside of moves or tv. And I am surrounded by people every day. Are my experiences unrealistic?

31 pages of recycled arguments that will chase it's own tail like Ouroboros leaves a lesson to learn.

Know when to walk away and let someone keep their own opinion/delusion. Because no amount of logical discussion, argument, or common sense can penetrate some people.

I work in IT, so I only hear it when people are frustrated, minor swearing a couple times a week.

I think it's fair to say all our experiences are extremely varied.
