The stroke and cancer have made that rather unlikely, but Thanks for the heartfelt advice....

We may not agree on many topics, but I'd like to extend my condolences all the same, and offer my hopes for as much good health as possible.

Hence why all our discussions snould be kept civil and not using personal insults. We never know what someone else may be going through.

Thanks! The cancer has been declared in remission, and hopefully will be changed to cancer free in 3 yrs or so. And overall, it is the good kind of both (ie; rear brain stroke only left me dizzy 24/7, and Hodgkin's lymphoma is mostly seen in younger folks, so more is known about treatment), so many folks have it far, far worse.

And no bouts of swearing either.... ^_^

Kat, that's a little harsh...

I don't care. He needs something better to do.

A better hobby at least.

You're welcome. Everyone's got problems. The last thing they need is yet another buzzkill.

Kat, that's enough now. If you can't stop being rude, perhaps another thread will be suited to your mood.

I was fine until I got reported for some trivial crap. I'm calling it out. You can't guilt me over it. Sorry. ;)

How petty can you get? If you hadn't broken forum rules you'd likely not be reported. Granted, I don't know the post, but I'm sure the reasoning behind the warning was valid.

Should and are are far apart in the real world. I fall under the pragmatic course.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, there's a flip side to that.

Having a discussion between people that doesn't involve airing that person's background is part of why the internet can be an interesting place to have intersecting viewpoints.

By telling us that you're sick you're garnering sympathy. You're changing the field of the conversation. I'm not accusing El of that. I am stating it however as it's a current rather poignant metaphor.

Here's a quote from Citizenfour that sort of points towards what I'm getting at.

"I remember what the Internet was
like before it was being watched.
And there has never been anything
in the history of man like it.
I mean you could have children
from one part of the world
having an equal discussion,
where you know they were sort of granted
the same respect for their
ideas and conversation,
with experts in the field
from another part of the world
on any topic, anywhere,
anytime, all the time.
And it was free and unrestrained."

I suppose the point, and heart of what I'm getting at, is that making it personal, either by explaining your background or attacking someone "ad hom..." takes it to another level. In my view, garnering sympathy and calling someone an "idjiot" (As my british friend says) are using the same coin, just reverse sides.

There's no reason not to be civil, to reiterate, I'm *not* disagreeing with you, but there's an undercurrent to the recent topics in this thread that irks me on both sides.

(Missed an important *not* in there) Whoops...

I don't. I don't use them myself nor do I hear them very often outside of moves or tv. And I am surrounded by people every day. Are my experiences unrealistic?

No. But for every person like you that rarely hears them there's another who hears them all the time. Logic dictates that if one half of people hears them all the time and the other half hears them occasionally then a significant majority of people encounter cuss words on a fairly frequent basis. There are always going to be exceptions, but anyone with a shred of life experience can tell you that humans, as a species, cuss. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes by accident. But it happens whether you want it or not.

As I said in my comment that got deleted for no reason, if you want realistic dialogue then you have to accept the fact that the characters may occasionally swear. If you want dialogue with no swearing at all then you don't want realistic dialogue, you want dialogue that's been shaped to fit your specific desires. I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with a "clean" script, but no cussing at all is simply not realistic. I don't personally care whether there's cussing or not, just so long as any cuss words that are used make sense in the context of the situation.

He's been arguing with everyone in the Witcher thread in the Inquisition feedback forums for well over 500 pages. This is nothing to him haha.

Look at the "Top contributing authors".

more than 10% of posts are just a one guy derping the same argument over and over.

How is that possible that after so many years you people are still falling for the most notorious troll BSN has ever knew. It boggles my mind how easily it is for him to derail thread after thread and often get them locked.

Some newer members I could understand but the long time forumites I just can't.

I did and I'm insulted that it just goes by postcount. I demand a revote.

But honestly, what's your point? People discuss their point of view on the matter and some are more active than others.

Chill or use the block function.

Hey, why would I do that. I have nothing against him personally, trolling is his nature so he's just doing what he was born for.

I am more amazed by all the people here. After all the years, all the thousands of one liner posts he made, all the thread derailed and locked ... people are still falling for it.

And why would I block him. His constant trolling and people taking his baits so easily is an endless source of amusement.

The world doesn't need to bend to one's opinions, because of your health. Don't get played. It's a different subject. We all deserve health.. and the world could do more with Cancer research.. but that's it.

I could toot my own horn and say I gave most of my Christmas money to Cancer donations. But no.. Stray is the bad man who makes rude posts on BSN. He told someone to find something better to do. Oh, whatever shall we do? :o

The premise fails, as there are those that do not abide profanity on a regular basis. In Real Life, I walked away from unruly clients, or hung up the phone, but this did not happen often as the majority consider profanity in public to be uncivil; something that was undesirable. Thus, realistic dialogue can have the absence of obscenities. too.

While the writers can create characters and scribe dialogue as they want, as a consumer, my request is to omit profanity or possibly allow for a Toggle to remove it. This is what the OT requested.

Is it not simpler to just accept that people, and characters, will use profanity, whether you like it not? You don't get a say in the words another person will use when they speak to you, or others in your presence. The same should go for characters in a game that is supposed to immerse you in.

In Bioware games, I simply bench the offending Companions, as most NPC's do not use profanity. In other games, I simply choose not to purchase them. This seems to work well for me, though I would prefer not to have the offensive language in the games at all.
