Get's the same message across and the tone of voice would give the same emotion. Swear words are completely unnecessary.
And there you go again. Who gives you the right to say how people should speak, and attack them if they don't fit your rules?
I never said anything about how people should speak. I don't care either way which words someone chooses to use. I'm well within my rights to snicker at them when the words they choose sound forced and unrealistic.

Um, no you aren't. This forum doesn't allow people to mock, insult, or attack others. You agreed to those rules when you made your account.

The idiocy of this thread is reaching heights I am more than a little surprised of. Don't like fraking swear words? Don't buy mature titles let your wallet speak volumes. Stop this childish pushing for a unified codex on morality. I don't fraking care if you don't like swear worlds. i don't fraking care if you are offended. The analogy to show the idiocy is thus;
Imagine a Quaker coming on to the forms and complaining about the imaginary violence of the ME universe. Quakers have strict beliefs about violence and the game does not conform to them. But who in their right mind here thinks Bioware should make a violence toggle or remove violence from a mature title? Yet somehow YOUR fraking beliefs are the ones that should be entertained?
Live your life by the moral code you wish to ascribe to and when a product violates said code show some FRAKING moral fortitude and not use said product instead of pushing your moral beliefs on other people.
Finally telling off TIM after blowing up the Collector Base:
"I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you. I'm getting a lot of [cattle fecal matter] on this line"
My favorite that involved foul language was Zaeed saying "Fry you SOB" at the end of his mission

This thread asks posters about their opinions on the subject, so why can't those who don't like it express their opinion on this thread? Same with your example. If the thread you refer to asked players for their opinions, the Quaker is well within their rights to express how they would prefer not to have violence.

being "within your rights" doesn't magically make an opinion valid or constructive or germane. You are within your "rights" to believe global warming is false or that the earth is flat. Just because you have a right to an opinion doesn't make all opinions valid or equal in validity.

The only expletive I think is appropriate for that situation is "WTF is a thanix missile?" ![]()
@KR96 Its not a deal breaker for me either way. It's never felt out of place in the Mass Effect series. I guess I feel the same about swearing that feel about any dialogue: so long as its interesting and contextual it doesn't bother me. I will say that most of my favorite renegade lines from the series thus far didn't involve swearing. "I'll relinquish one bullet. Where do you want it?" says everything you need to know.
As far as whether or not its appropriate, if game allows you to shoot someone in the head, we already crossed the threshold of not for children. With an M rated game, this is definitely on the creative table.

And when you finally see them, they are the exact same as the ones that are seen during Kasumi's mission.

With things like global warming and the shape of the Earth, there is objective evidence to support one argument over another. There is no such objective evidence when it comes to language, thus each opinion is entirely subjectively and thus equally valid, constructive, and germane, particularly when the discussion is about hearing everyone's opinion. The only opinions that aren't are those which think their opinion is more valid than others, which are invalid, deconstructive, and irrelevant.
And yet here we are in a gaming forum discussing what we all would like to see in an upcoming game. While my opinion may not seem valid to you is your concern; not mine. I shall continue to ask. But to paraphrase, I will support your right to voice yours in opposition, though I do wish said voice was less hostile.
Again you think your opinion is valid because hey we are all entitled to one. The validity of an opinion is INDEPENDENT of the right to hold one. I have the right to go on a forum and say please use the f word in every sentence in a E for everyone title. Doesn't make the request reasonable doesn't make it valid or on equal footing as other opinions.
You claiming to have right to an opinion and saying you believe I have the right to a dissenting opinion isn't germane to an opinion's validity.
This is a mature title asking to remove content that makes a title mature strictly for the purposes of appeasing your sensibilities is asinine. just as it is asinine for me to ask an E for everyone title to include profanity or a Quaker asking for a no violence toggle. Having the right to voice an opinion doesn't make an opinion constructive or germane. Thinking the world is flat is a right, doesn't make that opinion equally as valid as those that opinion that the earth is sphere/spheroid.

These games also have gore, yet include a Gore toggle. This is for the indv Player to better tailor the experience to their own desires. Mine includes less profanity, and encourage the Dev's to make it so... so to speak.
Gore toggles are so lame, part of what makes brutal doom so awesome is being able to pop limbs/heads and see blood spatter and bloodied chunks flying.

not equivalent and not germane to ME. There is no gore toggle in Me that i am aware of. There is no need to duplicate content with a gore toggle that there would be to a profanity toggle.

"Shepard! These finagling Reapers have us pinned! Take out those monkeyfighting husks so we can move forward! Oh snickers Jenson, watch your backside!"
See how idiotic combat banter sounds when you censor it?
I'd support a profanity filter so long as it resulted in a horrific dubbing of the profane words with something that sounds like it came out of Flanders' mouth.
"Good googly-moogly, Ryder! Get down!"
That could be amusing. Also the complaint posts from some of those who wanted a profanity filter would be gold.
Oh my god, just give them the damn toggle for gore and bleeps. Jesus christ. Everyone wins and I can keep mine off. There.
(I've read the entire thread from 1 to 39. Pretty surreal experience.) ![]()
Comparing a gore toggle to a dialogue toggle is a false equivalence. Gore filters do not potentially require that scenes be rewritten around them.
As far as I'm concerned, a dialogue toggle would be no less egregious than a gay/straight toggle or a feature allowing the player to edit companion appearance. In all cases, it's asking for the player to be granted an inappropriate level of control over characters that are not the protagonist.
This thread is hilarious.

Well, might be delicious for one man and give brain aneurysm to another. I applaud your iron will and patience in dealing with this, though. Um, keep it up?
An ass aneurysm would be something to watch! ![]()
