Right. So even you acknowledge that.. Then what is the big deal about profanity then?
I've said it once before and I will say it again - and your post helps prove my point - that you can be insulting, condescending, rude and make somebody feel inferior to you without resorting to insults and swearing.
I'm curious. What exactly goes through your head/ or what do you feel when you read or hear a swear word? Honest question.
For me, someone who cusses occasionally, makes me think wow they are upset and maybe stay away or get ready for a fight. Someone who cusses every other word I think - boring and stupid and the cuss words didn't mean anything they just can't come up with words so cuss.
Someone who cusses continuously with the usual profanity needs some imagination.
I'd rather have a character that doesn't cuss at all rather than one who cusses a lot.
I wouldn't mind something said in an extreme situation. Joker's s*** s**** ....... was great. Once in a while, one just has to vocalize these things.
ME1 When they see the Thorian could have been a cussing moment, but I actually liked "we're going to need bigger guns" as an understated suggestion. And Shepard could have cussed out Harkin, but I'll always pick the acid and glass option. Words are great and can bring an image, majority of profanity is just that. Profanity that is supposed to shock us but is usually well, dumb especially if it's over done.
