Tripe, garbage, dung heap, pile of smoldering manure, etc. There are many ways to utilize language without resorting to profanity.

How are those words more polite than the alternative? Just seems completely arbitrary.

Crap is bad, manure is good, **** is bad, dung is good.

There's no real substance or reason in all this tripe, it's just the way it is because "it was always this way". And that's never a good reason.

Well I am glad you're alive and uninjured. Your swearing was clearly more than appropriate.

That would probably be in the top ten of most embarrassing ways to die.

To die fixing your own damn gun.

Just because something sounds less vulgar, doesn't make it's intent any less vulgar.

I recall an older story about a husband that was wanting to repair the roof, but was a tad afraid of heights. So he tied a rope around his waist after having anchored the other end to the bumper of the family car. What he forgot to do was inform his wife. A while later, she decided to go shopping, and took off for the market until one of the children noticed that they were dragging Dad.

After a lengthy stay in the hospital, it was finally time to go home. So his wife chose to throw a coming home party, and made certain to refill all of the cigarette lighters in the home. Over the toilet. And she failed to flush. When the husband came home, one of the things he wanted to do was finally smoke again. Plus, he could use his own facilities in relative comfort. He did both, and tossed the smoldering remains into the lighter fluid filled throne.

Only another lengthy stay in the hospital for burns to his lower regions was required, but I am certain that if he had died, his was a more humiliating way to go than yours.

A fair point, but mine is that profanity ain't required to do so.

Right. So even you acknowledge that.. Then what is the big deal about profanity then?

I've said it once before and I will say it again - and your post helps prove my point - that you can be insulting, condescending, rude and make somebody feel inferior to you without resorting to insults and swearing.

I'm curious. What exactly goes through your head/ or what do you feel when you read or hear a swear word? Honest question.

For me, someone who cusses occasionally, makes me think wow they are upset and maybe stay away or get ready for a fight.  Someone who cusses every other word I think -  boring and stupid and the cuss words didn't mean anything they just can't come up with words so cuss.

Someone who cusses continuously with the usual profanity needs some imagination.

I'd rather have a character that doesn't cuss at all rather than one who cusses a lot.

I wouldn't mind something said in an extreme situation.    Joker's s*** s**** ....... was great.     Once in a while, one just has to vocalize these things.

ME1 When they see the Thorian could have been a cussing moment, but I actually liked "we're going to need bigger guns"  as an understated suggestion.  And Shepard could have cussed out Harkin, but I'll always pick the acid and glass option.  Words are great and can bring an image, majority of profanity is just that.  Profanity that is supposed to shock us but is usually well, dumb especially if it's over done.

I don't think there's anything wrong with swearing at all. I do it too. Sometimes I just can't help myself and it doesn't mean that I'm upset or anything, I just do it.

I understand that. I mean, if say every single NPC swore every five seconds it would just be ridiculous. But to me I guess it comes down to the execution.. Jack swore a lot, but I found her entertaining. Especially if you played mShep and used her for a one night stand. Click on her and all she will say is "F--" - oops, sorry, I mean, "[CENSORED] off."

But that's the thing. Every character has their quirks, like Mordin's motor mouth. If EVERY character behaved that way it would just be annoying. But for him it's okay.

If this is a true story, then it bears some semblance of sadism and stupidity.  If it's made up, then it shows what he must think of women.
