I don't care either way, so long as I don't have Nicky from Goodfellas as a teammate. That's a little overkill for me, even though I love Martin Scorsese. As a side note, seeing Nicky's "Am I a clown? Do I amuse you" speech on TBS was comedy gold.
There should be limits. Jack was the only character that swore frenquently, and used R rated language a lot. Zaeed had a couple, but gosh dang (like I said, been reading this thread) or SOB was his favorite saying. Aria only has a few too(bare in mind, I don't have Omega) and James has one or two that I can think of. Oh and Sidonis. If you tell him during Garrus' personal quest, he drops a short and direct F-bomb. I thought that was understandable given the circumstances.
Most of the language in BW games fits easily in the PG-13 rating. While I agree the English language (and others) have many words to express things, I think in some situtations a blunt and crude way of speaking can add quite a bit to character developement. Your Mileage May Vary there.
I'm not going to spend several posts on this. In the end, while I see the merit that adult language can provide for a story, the characters can curse or choose not to. It would be weird for a character like Liara or Josie to start dropping F-bombs, but it makes sense for someone like Zaeed or Iron Bull.
As someone else pointed out much earlier in the thread, it's like a good seasoning. A little bit can add some heat and emphasis to a scene. Too much and it sounds like an 8 year old that just learned how to curse in context. Personally, I'm playing an M rated game, and the occasionally F-bomb isn't going to phase me any. I'd rather not tell the writers how much they should or should not have their characters curse. I want them to write the character they way they want, whether it be a religious figure that would never dare use such words to express themselves, or an angry and embittered veteran that curses constantly.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't want more than one companion that cursed all over the place. Some blue language is welcome by me, but again, too much spice will kill the dish. So to speak. I'm not going to cast too much judgement on what folks find offensive. It's a subjective argument that, most of the time, proves fruitless. Just my two credits and no harm meant.
