I agree with the basic premise of this analysis: that Mass Effect is about the Created versus their Creators. I do wish that he had explored the actual ending choices, though.

Scientology has more sense than this, which is saying a lot.

Since religion is such a touchy subject I can not respond.

That ME trilogy is multi layered and spreaks to the consious and symbolic far more than other games to the unconsious I believe you have very correct.

Nice video...

Honestly, wouldn't surprise me.

Media of all kinds use religion and sexual themes symbolically in their subjects. In fact, Mass Effect is a lot more blatant bout it, the main character is named "Shepard" (Jesus is the Shepherd.) Cerberus is a mythological creature, Leviathan is another mythological creature.

The guy isn't saying the Reaper's are LITERALLY God's creation in Mass Effect, but they could possibly be created with biblical influences.

My only complaint is that he didn't touch up on the Leviathan. I thought this may have been due to the video being released before the DLC, but it turns out this video was released two years after Leviathan. Disappointing.

Even if I don't agree, I appreciate the insight into a different point of view.

Nice video.

Saw this a while ago.

Good video, love this kind of stuff because it shows a sophistication of the medium is growing, as is the games themselves as they help people explore different themes.

It's not sophistication that is the problem, rather managing to pull those things off in a way that makes sense when connected to the overall story

and actualized inside the game itself.

Finding tangential connections and allegories are the fun dessert that comes after the main course, not instead.

The discussion itself, along with how the games allow such discussions to exist as they grow more complicated in themes and format, is all critical analysis.

That is why it's sophisticated. You are right but I think you're missing the point and presuming it's the game that is purposeful in these allegories. It really doesn't have to be.

Except "Shepard" is named after Alan Shepard, the astronaut.

And Cerberus comes from the Charon Relay, which orbits Pluto, named for the Roman god of the underworld.  Cerberus was the guardian of the gates to the underworld.  Just as Cerberus wants to protect humanity from the aliens.  Not so much religious allegory as running with a theme

The Leviathan was named after the Leviathan of Dis, which was really just an easter egg for Leviathans from the tv show Farscape.

If "Created vs creator" was really such a big thing, they'd have made Miranda and Grunt more important.  They are, after all "created" beings, even if they are organic after all.
