How much do the Dalish know of Flemeth's true nature?

I wasn't sure which forum to stick this in, but since all the Flemythal business gets revealed in Inquisition I thought this would be the place to ask. How much do the Dalish - and Marethari in particular - know about Flemeth? My Dalish lore is rusty and I'm confused.

As you're going up Sundermount to complete the ritual, Merrill talks about how it's not wise to keep her waiting, people who displease her end up in pieces, etc. And she repeatedly refers to her as Asha'bellanar.

Marethari apparently knew (somehow??) that you were bringing the genie in the bottle: "I listened. To the wind. To the birds, as the hunters do. To my dreams. I watched the stars. There is great wisdom to be found all around us, if you know how to listen for it. But I was not certain. Nothing is certain."

And when you ask her what the amulet is, she says that it's a promise "made by one whose word still has weight, and therefore it has terrible power. There are few things in this world stronger than a promise kept. Remember that."

So... did she know anything? Does Flemeth make a habit of hanging around the Dalish without actually revealing anything elfy, oooorr..?

No idea , honestly.

From what I can remember the Dalish , at least in Ferelden , were dealing with her.

In the Stolen Throne they follow her orders , can't remember the details .

Marethari had an history with Flemeth , the Sabrae clan was attacked by Avvar (i think) her husband was murdered , the Keeper was killed too...anyway she went to Asha 'bellanar and asked for justice.

I think they made a bargain , and then there were bits and pieces of avvar all over the trees , and Marethari had to take care of the amulet.

It's in WOT2.

Still it doesn't explain why the Dalish would bargain with a human witch ...I imagine some of them might suspect something ,they know she is super old , Marethari went to her pleading for justice just like elves in the ancient times went to Mythal's temple.

They also know she is dangerous , same way Mythal had a reputation for eating the weak and unworthy for breakfast.etc...

Who knows?

Yeah, I am sure that the Dalish that dealt with her consider her more than just human. Even Anders and Fenris can tell she's something more than an abomination.

If they knew her identity then they'd flock to her. Instead, it seems Asha'bellanar is a last resort type of ally to the Dalish: She'll help, but with a price.

I don't think they know she's the Mother Goddess of their religion, but I'm sure she's a powerful and prominent figure in their lore.

In DA2, Flemeth even asks Merrill, "Do you know who I am, beyond the title [of Asha'bellanar]?"

And Merrill responds, "I know only a little."

They probably don't know she's elven in nature (did you?), but they probably know she's dangerous and immortal. They probably also know the horrible fates she inflicts on mortals, since Merrill warns Hawke, "It's not wise to keep the Asha'bellabar waiting." However, she was probably somewhat friendly or helpful to them in the past (she seems rather fond of "the People" whenever she encounters one, like with Merrill and Lavellan), so the Dalish probably learned early on that if they're friendly to her, she's (somewhat) friendly to them.

Those that weren't probably got killed horribly by her in the past, leaving the remaining Dalish to say, "Yeah, I'm not gonna goad or antagonize her."

I'm pretty certain they know virtually nothing about it.

Ahhh, thanks all for the replies. I didn't even recall that bit from WoT2, but your explanations make sense. Basically, they know enough to fear her (and seek her out if they're in desperate need), but she doesn't really "fit" anywhere in their lore... err, that they know of anyway.

She already fits into their modern lore, somehow. The fact that the Dalish have given her a title means that she is revered by the People despite being apparently human.
