After receiving an email that Origin is offering up to 60% discount on some items, I think to myself "Sweet, maybe I can get that Dragon Age DLC that I've been wanting for ages". I've jumped into the Origin store and to my delight I've seen that TWO DLC packls have been released in the time since I've stopped playing the game!!

Unfortunately, when I've looked closer at the discount details, I've noticed that discounts aren't applied to individual DLC, only to the game that is packaged with the DLC...

Why would I buy two DLC packs for $25 each (total of $50), when the GOTY edition is at a $50% discount for $45 and includes every DLC ever made? And why would I spend $45 buying a second copy of the game I already own and purchased at full price? Online Chat assistants tell me they can't assist, because this is the Studio Team's realm. Apparently the only way to get a message to the Studio Team is to post in the forums and risk having my question de-valued by trolls who have nothing better to do with their time - all in the vain hope that enough people agree with this question and give it sufficient weight to get the attention of the elusive Studio Team!!! (by which time the holiday promotion is over and everything reverts to full price).

One last thought, in case the studio team is reading this: "Did you know that Steam (your competition) always apply any discount offered to the DLC separately, for their customers who already have a copy of the game"?????

Here's hoping . . .

Huh... Still money grabbing even in the middle of the holidays. Unsurprising; its EA.

And then there's people like me. Who paid full price and couldn't give a **** about it, because they got their money's worth.

So... You are upset that Origin won't listen to your demands to put the specific item you want, in the specific format you want, on sale right now to suit the price you want?

I miss the days when people didn't think they were entitled to discounts on all further products simply because they bought something.

Money is always tight for "the little guy", and this person might not have much money to put into leisure activities. Thanks to people with EA's mindset, money is more important than being nice. EA should at least realise that they have competitors with better prices - I mean, heh, they can't exactly rely on their customers' loyalty... it's too late for that, I think.

Yeah, but when further products rely on previous products to function, it's not entitlement. At least not when the further products are discounted only if you buy the previous product with it. It's kind of a slap in the face of your customers to discount one thing in a package deal, but not to discount it by itself, again if you likely bought the previous product solo.

It's entitlement if the two things are unrelated, and you expect the discount because you've bought something from them before.

No, you are wrong.

A company is quite in their right to do a package deal later on to try and entice new customers. You are not entitled to get to play the game earlier and still get that lower price. Otherwise, its not a special package deal, its just the new base price.

What you are entitled to, is the product you paid for, not access to all sales the company may ever decide to do in whatever format you demand.

Which was my case. I rolled the money around for a while, then comitted, and never looked back.

I dunno what to say... Different perspectives? I feel that a customer shouldn't be unable to buy one thing at a discount without buying extras, purely because the company is only willing to discount it, if you get those extras.

The old customers are no more entitled than the new ones. It's entirely EA's own entitlement to discount it at all, however they wish. There's always going to be someone who gets the short end, but those that do aren't necessarily entitled just because they would like that generous offer too. I don't think the OP feels jipped because they already bought that other stuff, and I don't think they're implying that the discount relates to the position of the customer.

It's not like EA have to discount it with the full game. I don't think they'd be losing out by discounting the DLC separately. If the OP gets it discounted or not doesn't bother me, anyway. I just thought I'd bring my 2 cents to the subject, because I usually try to avoid getting into this topic and thought I'd say something at least once.

Interesting. A while back there was a 50% sale and that one was applied to the dlc as well.

Maybe the dlc will be discounted separately in later sales?

They had the DLC on mark down during the Cyber Monday type sales I think it was. I grabbed my Descent and Trespasser then :)

I think you missed out OP.

Shouldn't complain too much. Origin actually gives away free games on the house. Even though they may be old, but free is free. So far I got Crusader: No Remorse, Red Alert 2 and Jade Empire for free.

I got GOTY edition of DA:I on PS4 through PS Store for $25 as opposed to paying $30 for DA:I itself and then paying for Descent and Trespasser seperately with the Spoils of the Qunari DLC.  Managed to catch it on the last night of the sale.

EA is being stingy while both Steam and Sony are trying to provide a pretty good deal.  Still don't think complaining about it will give you a discount, though, if that's what you're going for, OP...

Steam had some good sales for Christmas. Picked up Kotor and a couple of older games for $1.99-2.99. But never seen them offer free games.
