Just started DA 2 after having first played DA Inquisition and then Origins & its DLCs.  I can certainly see now how DAO evolved into DAI.  One thing that surprised me, though, is that DA 2 seems to have better graphics than DAI!?  That said, I'm playing DA2 on PC whereas I played Inquisition on PS4.  Characters in DA 2 seem to be almost 3 dimensional (visually).  I was surprised to find only Hawke can ever change clothes.  (The start of "every character has a specific look.")  Overall, I must say I like the DAO system better -- for clothes, crafting, etc.

Anyhow, my Hawke is a mage.  At beginning of the game, I received "Blood Dragon" armor.  Was that meant primarily for a warrior Hawke or all Hawkes?  What outfit is supposed to give you the "iconic mage Hawke" look?

Blood Dragon armor is for warriors for everybody, apparently. Mage Hawke's iconic armor is the Mantle of the Champion and can be obtained bit by bit in Act III.

Probably the suckiest thing in DA2 was the fact that your companions' outfits don't change unless you romance them (or they're Anders). All you can do is upgrade their default look. Sad day!

For a mage Hawke, the Mage and Mage II item packs provide armor that seems visually much more in tune with Hawke's status as an apostate - particularly Aldenon's Vestments, Robes of the Pretender, The Helm of Marterel, The Fugitive's Mantle and The Fugitive's Crown.  Mantle of the Champion just makes me go WTF every time I look at it.

Thanks for the low down!  The problem with Blood Dragon armor is having to build up strength at the expense of those attributes most important to a mage:  magic and willpower.  Constitution is third for me after those two.  OTOH, you don't get much for what you sell, even if it's good.

Myself, I prefer utility over aesthetics....kind of like Origins but with more variety.  (Wade considers himself an artiste...but his drake or dragon armor always ends up looking like the common armor that's readily available. lol)

Just to make sure, the junk you find in DA 2 is just junk right?  My initial thought was that if you found something broken, it could be fixed once you found all the pieces.  Now that I'm in the latter part of Act I, that doesn't seem to be the case...

Also, do any of the companions from Origins make an appearance anywhere?

Yes, Al, Leliana and Zev can all make appearances, as can Nathaniel if you imported an Awakening save where he survived.

To ensure they show up with (mostly) correct dialogue, however, you need this mod: http://social.biowar...m/project/4364/

Zev's dialogue is STILL bugged for a romanced Warden who survived, but this mod (which requires the above mod) may be able to fix that if you can get it to work for you: http://www.nexusmods...ge2/mods/3979/?

[Edit] The junk you find in DA2 is just junk, but you can sell it to merchants for a bit of extra coin, which comes in very handy during the early game.

On console, I got used to the mage pack dlc.. they're well designed and provide good stats for each Act. Without that, just stick with whatever decent loot you find, until the Champion set in Act 3 (that's the supposed iconic look you asked about). Most of it is ugly.. but so was DAO.

Technically, you could get some of the best mage gear during Act 1, but it's rogue gear. The Lowtown Stompers, Bloody Butcher's Gloves, and Stalker's Boar Hides. They have a slight Dex/Cun requirement, but a mage can wear it for good Crit boosts. They can serve you well all the way into Act 3. But especially useful if you go up the Spirit Tree.

You think DA2 graphics look better than DAI? I'm sorry but DAI's graphics are its strong suit. Its graphics are better than both previous games by a long shot. And DA2 had the ugliest graphics and art style, as far as I'm concerned.

As far as mage Hawke goes, my mage Hawke is female, so I had her wearing something that used the same model as the Circle robes. She and Bethany both looked so cute in those robes.
