Don't take what mybudgee and some of those others say about the off-topic forum too seriously, it had a lot of interesting threads that went on for hundreds of pages (which became even longer when the BSN transitioned to BWF,* since each page is shorter). Most of them were pretty casual, with really fun ideas (e.g. 'compliment the above poster,' 'what are you listening to currently?,' 'respond to the above poster's signature', 'what are you reading?'). I think 4000+ of my posts were on these sorts of threads. Probably the biggest non-casual thread was the 'anime/manga thread'.

There were also current world event threads (for lack of a better way to describe them), like announcements of a deceased celebrity (e.g. Leonard Nimoy, that guy who played Thane).

It wasn't all spammers and liberal posters going on about anything that bothered them (heck, I don't even remember any atheist condemnation threads). It did get pretty stupid at times, no doubt about that.

*On that note, the site is no longer the BSN. I see a lot of people referring to the forum as BSN, even new people, but BSN stood for 'BioWare Social Network,' which was the literal name for the site. They transferred much of the site's content into this new site. Now it's the BWF (BioWare Forums), which is boringly vague, IMHO.

RWBY feels.

Suggesting yet again that this was done on a whim. Not that anyone else cares though.

It's true, there was so much interesting things they deprived us of by taking out off-topic thread.

In result, I mastered the Art of derailing conversations with my persuasive Asari ways. Ugh how i miss the old BSN site.

I keep hearing that threads in the ME:A section go way off topic now thanks to OT being archived. How true is that?

it got torched quick. There is also andromeda multiplayer threads full of sp butthurt, it's very toxic in there. Only people skilled in the art of derailing a conversation can survive in there.

The SP vs MP thing was bound to happen even without OT being locked away. When you don't have dedicated sections for them, it'll happen.

Some odd decisions being made in regards to this place. OT being closed thus causing every other section to be more off topic, SP and MP in the same place, just expecting people to be good on spoilers instead of having multiple sections, etc etc.

Yo man.

You've busted the establishment

You've won 10000000 Gil

You've obtained the secret Ultima Weapon-BFGOver9000

You've gained a level in your Cpt. Obv. job. New skill learned: Extreme deadly rhethoric.

Congrats.

Anything being done about it, or are threads just left to roam into OT? Because if this is the case, I'd rather they just bring the OT section back.

They're being very harsh and strict on moderating there. They didn't care moderating OT because it wasn't business stuff.

Ahh, so they really are trying to keep things Bio-focused only. Eh. Not the best way to promote discussion.

It's not like the publicly listed rules document has ever had much to do with the rules that are actually enforced.

They don't care, so I don't see why should we.

You know who else enforced rules that had nothing to do with the publically listed rules document?

Darth Vader.

So, seriously.  When are we getting mods with names, personalities, actual forum posts, etc., like the old days?  This new mass produced army of ModBot1,2,3,4,5,6... is creepy.

Be careful of Mod 12.

He's the worst.

I'd tell you but he'd "deal with me". Vroom knows though, but he's the same as me. He doesn't want to be "dealt with."

Just don't bend over near Mod 12.

The deal with that is back in the old days mods would develop reputations amongst posters(for good or bad depending) and then people would respond to them in relation to that or would troll them. Also mods always did their thing in their free time which meant dealing with problem-posters wore them down a bit.

Now with the BioMod accounts there are mods whose only jobs are to mod;not to participate or hang around the forum.

I gave it a chance but I've always missed when mods were actual posters that frequented the boards;made for a better understanding of what was going on, what the forum needed, who was great, who certainly wasn't, when to go easy on someone, when not to, etc etc.

Nowadays I believe thats handled more on a reputation system based on number of infractions, time spent on the forum, and things like that. Honestly though at this point I wish it'd go back to how it was in the old days.

Bioware SOCIAL Network. Only this time supported by good Bioware games instead of games that split the community down the middle(DA2, ME3). In the end I think the quality of the games Bioware make has a huge effect on how easy the forum is to handle.

Unfortunately for us, Bioware seems content to contribute far less here and participate more in other locations across the web, also sending us to these other locations if we wish to talk about anything other than Bioware with other Bioware fans.

To rip a quote from Doctor Who, they've redecorated and I don't like it.

The real problem is they're under EA's management, which is not their own, and they have to sustain their pressures: smiling, nodding and kissing their arses as they please. The new relocation of the old staff plus the newer integrations, and the games that had followed, have decreed the lowest point in approval rating and quality. If that's the way they swing... I don't care. As long as the videogame mass market goes like this, if it's connected to this kind of poor quality in their support and social sites and poor games' quality too, we can't do anything to stop it. We would if we started not sponsoring their activities and not buying products who will continue to weigh down the whole videogaming.

That said, I'm out.
