True, I think Varric fits the "bro" role extremely well in both games. It's hard not to be friends with him. My inquisitor would certainly be attracted to his sense of humour (and chest hair) if he was an option, but damn, Cullen is great as well. At first I wasn't that interested in Cullen since "everyone romances him anyway" and he didn't seem as interesting as the other LI's (granted, this was before I played any of the DA games), but his character development throughout all three games is great and he certainly aged well compared to DAO, haha. Also, he's a genuinely nice guy and I thought he deserved a pretty lady after everything he went through in the previous games
Ugh, I love Cassandra as well. I'm definately making a male character in the future who'll romance her. She was my inky's best friend and I felt bad not being able to invite her to the wedding
I'm also planning to make a lady Adaar for Sera and another dude for Dorian's glorious butt. There goes my social life!
Exactly. I have friends like that in real life when we get along so well and we spend tons of time together but we couldn't imagine having anything romantic between us. (Which is good. Some of those dudes are married anyway.
) That's Varric to me. He's totally my kind of person, but romance is out of question. I definitely see the appeal, though. I mean, he's so kind. How he's protective of Cole just melts my heart. He's protective of Hawke, too. Such a good guy. And, yes, really funny, too.
I was so trying to avoid Cullen for similar reasons.
During my first playthrough, I was actually trying to make a female qunari and romance Sera. (I'd had my eye on Sera since the trailer came out.) But I just didn't like anything I made, didn't really feel it that time around, so I went with my plan B, which was an elven mage. (I ended up loving her, too.) I got to know the characters a bit aaand I ended up crushing on Cullen. But I REGRET NOTHING. I showed some screenshots to my best friend, including the pillow talk and the wedding and everything, and he was like, "THIS IS DISGUSTING. SO MUCH FLUFF. I'm so romancing this dude if I make a chick." (He's perfectly straight, btw.
)
Heh, your post is so relatable. Cassandra, Sera, and Dorian are my guys. All on my list, too. (Aww, and yeah, it was the same for me. I'd love to have the entire squad on my Lavellan's wedding. Or at least Cassandra and/or Dorian as they were her best friends, as well.)

So much yes!
One of my future inquisitors is going to be an ***hole to everyone, but I just can't see myself being rude to Varric, ever. He just doesn't deserve that, man. (Though I can't wait to punch Solas in the face!)
My initial inquisitor was going to be a qunari too! Though I was planning on riding the Bull
But I didn't have any qunari mods yet so all my Adaar ladies turned out.. not that great. I eventually made a nice warrior Trevelyan though and slowly fell into Cullen hell from there, haha. The cuteness of the romance disgusts me too, I love it.
(Also, I still don't understand why they had to get married in secret. Sure, there's the whole "chain of command" thing, but don't tell me no one in the Inquisition noticed they were in a relationship for 2+ years!)
Also, I feel this is accurate:

You're very brave. I suck with playing mean characters. I can manage being a semi-a♡♡hole, but completely and to everyone? Haha. (sweats)
I do want to go Princess Stabbity on Solas, though. I mean, I had my Lavellan get pissed with him in Trespasser, but I was only allowed so many hissy fits.
(I didn't know you could punch him. Interesting.)
Aww, the pic is full of sads. I actually had to choose between Alistair and Hawke and... I just believed my Hawke, who's a mage and overall a bad b♡tch, had better chances to ever get out of there alive if possible. So... I left my Hawke in the Fade. Varric made me freaking cry, I admit.

("Riding the Bull." Heheh. I'm not immature. Ahem.) I see we started in a similar fashion, then. I've also been gathering mods for my future qunari lady. ![]()
(I thought that the problem with the marriage was more about the fact that the nobility was literally playing tug-o-war about who they're going to marry Cullen off to. Josephine mentions this at the beginning of Trespasser. And the chain of command might also be an issue. My Lavellan sure as hell doesn't care. She's Dalish. This is shemlen bullshit to her. But it seemed like it might cause a scandal or something and, given what was going on, it had to happen fast. BUT I may be wrong. I've only made one playthrough so far and I may remember it badly. People in Inquisition noticed, I think. Cullen mentions the barracks are full of gossip.
And various characters in Trespasser talk about it, like Cassandra and Vivienne.)
That pic is so damn accurate!
This is one of the reasons I like him so much. He's both a big bad lion and a puppy. I don't know how that works but I like it. I loved when he freaking got so angry with that scout when his first private time with the Inquisitor got interrupted, then two seconds later he surprise-kissed her and got all bashful about it. That was so funny and cute. (Poor scout dude, though, heh.)

My first playthroughs are always sweet cinnamon buns, but I love being an arse to everyone on subsequent playthroughs. You should see my alt dwarven Warden, he's an absolute psycho, haha.
Yep, low approval with Solas can lead to some pretty awesome scenes. (Spoiler-ish?)
True, Cullen was probably supposed to get married off to some Orlesian (or Fereldan?) noble in favor of the Inquisition's connections, but his relationship with the Inquisitor wasn't exactly a secret anymore (heck, even the dwarven bartender in Skyhold's bar knows about it). Although I guess Orlesians don't really mind that sort of stuff.
Aw man, I love that scene so much. I like how it shows that he's a tough bastard to his soldiers, but a real softy to the woman he likes. *Sigh* So precious.
I try so many times to play the biggest douche of a character and to only be nice to my LI, tried in in ME, tried it in DA and tried it again in FO and I always fail. I just can't get myself to role play a douche xD I guess my very first DA:I character could count as a douche ... I had no idea what I was doing and I drove Cass into alcoholism lol

You're my hero. I need to try harder. It's true sometimes the characters' reactions can be really interesting. I kind of revel in seeing how much of good people the companions are when faced with a real bastard. I think the protagonist's poor behaviour then kind of highlights it, heh.
Oh! It's nice the interaction changes based on approval. I knew it has some sort of influence, but I didn't know how much. I need to experiment.
The Solas gif.
Part of me thinks, "Poor sod." But then part of me also remembers the end of the game and Trespasser.
I still don't know if they could actually force Cullen to do that. But I assumed that was partly what the rush and scandal was about.
And, I know.
This thread officially turned into Cullen fangirling thread. I'm okay with this.

I feel this so much. I always find a reason not to be mean to my favourite NPCs somehow. I sure talk a lot of crap sometimes for somebody who can't even be mean to a bunch of pixels. But, hey, I've been getting better at it. Some of it. Sometimes. Maybe.
I guess my very first DA:I character could count as a douche ... I had no idea what I was doing and I drove Cass into alcoholism lol

I'm a nice guy in real life so it's really difficult for me to be a douche in games. Although, if a character really annoys me I tend to pick the more meaner options.

It's not difficult for me in SW:TOR. She's so deliciously evil, it's just yummy.

Same. Perhaps. Or similar anyway. I don't have a problem to respond in kind. Setting angry krogans on fire? Sure. Frying enemy batarians? No problem. Blowing a bunch of Eclipse mercs to hell and gone? Fun! Telling the turian councillor to kiss my ass? Gladly. Not hugging Tali on Alarei... Monstrous.
If the character is nice to the protag, then it's hard to find a reason to be a bastard towards them.
