You're my hero. I need to try harder. It's true sometimes the characters' reactions can be really interesting. I kind of revel in seeing how much of good people the companions are when faced with a real bastard. I think the protagonist's poor behaviour then kind of highlights it, heh.

Oh! It's nice the interaction changes based on approval. I knew it has some sort of influence, but I didn't know how much. I need to experiment.

The Solas gif.  Part of me thinks, "Poor sod." But then part of me also remembers the end of the game and Trespasser.

I still don't know if they could actually force Cullen to do that. But I assumed that was partly what the rush and scandal was about.

And, I know.  <3 This thread officially turned into Cullen fangirling thread. I'm okay with this.

Try being an evil bastard every now and then. It's refreshing!

But seriously, I'm a nice person in real life, but I have to admit being able to destroy everything and everyone feels good every now and then. I guess that's just my inner sadist talking. And I'm kinda curious about all the content they managed to stuff in the game, so it's worth it to me just for the extra scenes etc. Plus, my "evil ***hole" protagonist usually looks nothing like my canon protag, so it's easy to distance myself from their actions. They're basically doing the evil stuff themselves. They alive, damnit!

Solas deserves no sympathy. At all.

Spoiler

Interesting topic. Would Cullen agree to get married to some noblewoman he doesn't like, if it would benefit the Inquisition? He doesn't strike me as the person who would agree to do things against his will, but on the other hand, he might think it necessary to place the needs of the Inquisition above his own. Or he'd just say "No. That's ridiculous." and that's that.

Also, I like how this topic is now basically about cookies and Cullen. <3 Sorry, not sorry. We're still technically on topic.

I'm a terrible, bad and evil person in real life and I can only play as good characters. It is a very interesting experience.

I'm a nice guy in real life so it's really difficult for me to be a douche in games. Although, if a character really annoys me I tend to pick the more meaner options.

Gotta admit though the renegades get some of the best lines. Had a riot with my femshep in my renegon playthroughs.

Definitely, I know a few of those lines and whenever I get to them I just pick them for fun. My Shepards are usually mostly paragon, with some renegade here and there.

If you're a good person in video games, you simply cannot be evil in real life.

First run I usually just pick what comes natural to me so I end up with a paragade run. 2nd time round time to turn the douche up to 11, renegade time. :P

I'm polite but renegade for real choices in ME games. I'm all for giving the rachni a acid bath but I'm rarely rude to teammates. Well I did tell ash that she shouldn't have abandoned her team and if she wanted me to treat her with respect she should stop sucking. But otherwise mostly nice. I'll mouth off to belligerent and evil characters though. Sadly you end up paragade if you are polite to teammates but otherwise full renegade.

I know. I'm missing out otherwise. I can take some pretty brutal routes if I can see a reason in them. It's more difficult for me to just act irrationally evil, when I don't see purpose, though. But I agree it's worth a try to see what the games have to offer. Usually, I like to play morally greyish characters. Or good guys mixed with some sass and pragmatism that can get really pissed off at times.

Heh, I wouldn't dare accuse you of being otherwise. Games are games. Nobody really gets hurt. EXCEPT MY FEELINGS, lol. But, no, I agree experimenting is fun and I like getting different insight into the story and characters I wouldn't get otherwise. Still, I suppose I'll always have my limits, too.

Yeah, I was so done with Solas towards the end of the game and in Trespasser.

Spoiler

I don't think Cullen would agree to that. From what I've seen, he freaking hates all this noble crap. He never misses a chance to make a grumpy comment about nobles and the Game. (During one of the war table operations, I actually had him help a noble couple elope, using our own troops I might add, so the girl wouldn't be married off to somebody she didn't like. His idea. I think Josie might have had a better solution, but I couldn't resist wanting to cause a little bit of a stir as I hate this noble bull, too.) And Cassandra was allowed to refuse using her noble relations to advance Inquisition's interests, as well. So I think they couldn't really force him to do anything. But it still must be unpleasant to hear how they try to decide for him behind his back as if he was some thing to agree upon regardless of his opinion and Josephine presents it like it's no big deal. It's probably easier to fend off idiots saying, "Nope, sorry, already married."

Heh, never enough cookies and Cullen. Oh, true. You're right, lol.

I think it's fun to play as a complete contrasting personality on a different playthrough than my canon. Like, say, someone with a penchant for narcissism or perhaps a near-psychopath.

Okay, I might not be 100% serious about that  :P  But I like that they're giving you the options, though. My canon is usually a nice person mixed with some sassy/neutral responses whenever I feel like it (or agressive ones when I REALLY feel like it), or when I think the nice option is a bit too "goody two-shoes" for me. Except for Hawke, who chose the purple options almost exclusively. Sarcastic Hawke is my spirit animal <3

I usually like keeping everyone alive too, unless they really manage to annoy me. About Solas and Trespasser:

Spoiler

And true, I wouldn't blame the man for not agreeing to an arranged marriage, especially not while being married to the woman he loves.

In real life I am a mix of a paragon and renegade -- in the middle. My characters are kind of the same, too.

But seeing all of these paragons is kind of nice.

I think that is most people.

That was one of the problems with a morality system that encourages min/maxers to continually spam one end of the morality spectrum to get the best results. That's just not how real people behave.

I'll kill for the chance to be able to play as (female) protag with both borderline personality disorder and anti-social personality disorder. Playing a mentally unhinged character with traits like fear of abandonment, narcissism, hot/cold mood swings,a penchant for sexual promiscuity, etc would be.... quite the experience.

Thank you, Han. Thank you for making me feel generic and non-unique.

Actually, yeah I suppose that would be most people. The morality system does need to be improved, because gray characters deserve some boon, too.

Nah, she'd save humanity, even if quite a few of them would have preferred the alternative to being "saved" along the way, much like the northerners in GOT that were liberated from the ironborn by Ramsay Bolton and his men. ^_^

I understand that. I mean, it must be a completely different kind of playthrough. I admit I tend to make personalities in different shades of the grey spectrum myself within one game. I don't really like going purely one way or another, but I try to choose different options every playthrough. I guess I just try to choose closest options to the character I made up in my head.

Insane person is something I am yet to play. I think my problem is that I always try to make sense of everything. So irrational actions feel very frustrating to me. And once my own character starts pissing me off, that's the end of the playthrough for me. I suppose I'd need to let that go first. Character flaws are fun otherwise, though. But, anyway, I definitely like that we're given all the options, as well. Especially seeing that everybody plays so very differently. Makes it all worth it.

I usually keep alive those that deserve it. I have no problem to execute those that don't. Doesn't matter that it's a companion that's been with me the entire game. Doesn't matter we were friends. Like certain DAII apostate. Kinda wish I could just shank certain lady pirate in that game and be done with it, too. Since I can't, I merely send her to hell. I can only tolerate limited amount of bull.
