I finally have all the DLC, so I was going to play through it all over again. I've yet to try the DLC though, so I'd appreciate no spoilers. However, I wanted to maximize my experience so I wondered what race/gender would be best to do that storywise, IYO.

If you haven't done it, elf/female.

I second this. And mage if you haven't already done it. Bonus if you romance Solas :P.

Yes, you need to romance Solas to really get the value out of that class/race, IMO.

I see a lot of elf/solas stuff, though, I thought he was the least amount of content?

You should throw in mage as your class too - there's a wortwhile distinction there in terms of the content you get.

But between Dalish specific stuff, mage-specific stuff, and Solas-specific stuff, you see most exclusively content. Everything else is pretty rare - though it's there and IMO worthwhile.

Most would argue that despite the specifically romantic content not being as heavy in the main game, it's pretty worth it for other reasons.

Female Elven Mage. Romance Solas for good measure.

Without giving anything away, some of the DLC combined with the main game will yield some of the most fantastic and personally relevant role-playing experience.

Welp we can't spoil the DLC so.....dude, take these guys word on it and role a female mage elf.  Romance Solas, go all in with the pointy little guy.  Ignore the forum with all your might and any other spoilery stuff, sit back, and enjoy.   :)

Just curious, if you've already played through the main game once, shouldn't you already know the answer to your question? The fem elf/Solas that people are suggesting would primarily be for Trespasser as that is not really an issue in JoH or Descent.

If you like the game then experiencing it as different races and classes is part of the fun, try them all right?

I don't really think there is a specific race for JoH or Descent.  I played as a dwarf and got a couple of extra dialogue options, but honestly they weren't important in any way and in no way should inspire someone to be a dwarf purely for that DLC.

So the only race that could impact any of the DLC's I think would be an elf female Solas romance in Trespasser.

Do you think a specific combo would be good for JoH?  I can't think of one.....

I favor a female or male Elf mage. My female romances Cullen while my male romances Cassandra or Josephine.

Trust us, the drama alone will make up for any perceived lack of content.

Too many damn elves. Goddamn. And I like elves. :P Where were all these elf fans during DAO? Everyone hated the Dalish then..but it was much better than this game.

Look at the DAI cover. That's what you play.

Not for me. I have a specific combo that I prefer to play and have no desire to try anything else.

But the OP wanted to have a specific suggestion. So I would think that having already played the game (minus DLC) and seeing some of the elfy content might already lead them to trying elf, is my point.

There is no "best" choice. It all depends on what each individual prefers in terms of lore, playstyle, aesthetics, etc. etc. or what particular aspect of a game or its setting might spark (sometimes unexpected) inspiration. A character that one person raves about as the One True Canon OMG Why Would Anyone Ever Play Anything Else leaves the next person utterly cold or flat-out puts them off. That said, there's sadly not much for or about dwarves or qunari, so they're pretty much never mentioned when it comes to the "best" story-feel. Ask yourself what really interests you or what might be intruiging to play despite it not being your #1 go-to pick? (For me as an atheist, it was the challenge of roleplaying a devout and open-minded Andrastian. Human was the perfect fit for that, though it'd work for a qunari or dwarf as well since they're pretty much alienated from most of their people's old culture anyway.)

You're being too nice.

I've seen your posts before. You made a good case for mundanes once. It even gave me a second thought to rethink a character.

Pre-release, I was actually set on an elf mage. A lot has changed. I didn't like how it looked and Ameridan already covers that. I hate this kind of overlap, personally. It's too smug. That and I think DAO was a better Dalish. Kind of a similar story to the Inquisitor though (tainted by artifact). Just more playable.

The first time I played JoH was with a male elven mage and I can't imagine it being any better than that. Spoiler-protected for OP who hasn't played it yet.

Thanks. Though while I still stand by that opinion, I have been rethinking it as well, and apparently for reasons a bit similar to your even. :P For me, it's Cassandra (whom I absolutely adore, don't get me wrong) who made me realize that someone "already covers" the role that my original Inquisitor filled, and since she's an NPC she gets to be a character instead of a hollow cipher and thus sadly fills the role far better and more satisfyingly.

Switching my character from warrior to mage (Knight-Enchanter for that "vanguard against evil" vibe that I love) with some necessary adjustments to history and outlook keeps the faith angle that inspired me to create her, but also gives her a bit of a niche of her own in the empty middle between Vivienne on one end and Dorian or even Solas on the other.

@Melbella: Holy cow, that is an absolutely uncanny but awesome coincidence indeed! I can imagine how hard it must have knocked your socks off.

Female Elf, Solas. Try mage if you haven't before, but that part isn't really important.

Interesting. Well, I'd say Cass doesn't cover the rogue class at least. I was a Knight Enchanter once.. it was kind of boring gameplay wise, but I did find it easy to fit into the story. I got more disappointed when JoH came out and the last Inquisitor was a mage. For the same reason you're talking about Cass. That's one too many mages ruling over this organization back to back. For me at least. I could do with spreading things around. And it's also why I think the elf is a little smug choice. I don't want to discard my character though. It'd be a shame. :P
