Oh yes I can see that.  She was giving the illusion of an easily lead old woman to manipulate you then you see the real her in DA2. Although on the other hand Morrigan is very scathing about her being a dowdy old hag which suggests she's been so for a while.  Urgh this is confusing.

The boring answer of 'Bioware decided to re-design her' is no fun whatsoever.  Clearly it's an evil double bluff or mage skullduggery.

I think they may have not been able to pull it off at the time.

There's a bit of DAO concept art where that looks like Flemeth, but I'm not sure it's her. It shows up in the end credits, as one of the black and white sketches in the background.

All I can find on the net is this.. which is sort of a blend of DAO/DA2

Yeah, male mage is a wildcard. Not the obvious Flemeth representative, at least gender wise. Still cool though.

My Hawke can hear you from afar... He's a Male Mage lol.

That was my initial way of playing. I still like it. Mostly I just think of female now, because I needed one female in my main worldstate.

I prefer male Hawke's to be honest. And I've played Female Hawkes too.

Not sure where I stand. I like them both.

But I'm not about to make a female Inquisitor. I can barely play it once. Might as well make it count. Seeing that I am male myself. :P

Your a guy? Oh good to know; I'm female. It's obivous isn't it.

I can play both a male and Female Inquistor just fine; it's easy for me to do.

I could if I liked the game. That's what I mean. I just can't get much out of it, like DAO/DA2.

So I just stuck with my own gender and left it at that. Usually my first playthroughs have a little more "self insert", I guess.

That's what I thought at first,I thought I really need a female hero at this point. But Oh God...I tried to play as a female Inquisitor, but the voice acting of the female inquisitor...she sounds like Google!! I was like:Am I hearing these dialogues live from Google Translate? There's no emotions, nothing compares to the female Shepard...whoever did the British accent choice of the female Inquisitor need to learn something from Jennifer Hale!

Meh; I don't play games to play as myself. I mean; even in Skryim I'm playing a Male Dark Elf that's prefelient in Sneaking and shooting things with arrows. Lol, I can't shoot arrows in RL or do what he does so I guess the only person I self insert in games would be my Cousland and I'm nothing like her.

Well, I'm awesome. Why wouldn't I inject some of myself? -_-

Dats true indeed; I don't want my characters to be me. Besides for my canon Hero of Ferelden, she's pretty much me if I were braver, knew how to use a sword, didn't run away like a coward when she sees Darkspawn and was a human noble lol.

Don't get me wrong. I roleplay and come up with stories as much as I can.

But I like being a male. It's my natural state. But still, there are tons of different males, of course.

In Hawke's case though, the female won me over eventually. DAO, I like city elf female the most.. but it's not my main playthrough.

What's so funny? Just curious. I think many players are like this with interactive games. Much different than being detached like a book or film.

But I'm not so hung up on being male that all my characters are like that. To me, that'd be weird.

Careful buddy, you may wanna put on a tin helmet as there'll be some flak coming your way. :P  I haven't been the British female yet but it's Alix Wilton Regan who was Comms Specialist Samantha Traynor in ME3.  She's one of my favourites so I'm looking forward to seeing what she's like.  Worried now you said that.

I played with the American female voice, Sumalee Montano, and although she can occasionally be a bit wooden I really enjoyed her voice.  Perfect for a dwarf or Qunari and some of the lines....when she says 'see ya later Bull' it melts my heart for some stoopid reason.  Then when Bull said she had fantastic ****** she went 'gawwwww' and it was pretty great.  She's also really good at the sarcastic WTF lines which my dwarf used a lot so, if you're making a sarky dwarf or Qunari you could give her a try.  She just takes a bit of getting used to, but worth giving her a chance.   ;)

Agreed.  I'm female and a lot less bloodthirsty IRL than my characters are in games.  I end up injecting a little of myself into each character I play; I can't help it.  But much of the fun of RPGs, for me, is getting to explore different points of view.

Same.  After I started not being myself (super nice goody goody that wouldn't say boo to a goose) and actually started making characters with flaws and different points of view, I had loads of fun.  I've started to think it's a super cheap form of therapy, getting to let loose and be someone else for a while.  I'm sure there's some Freudian doo-dads going on with your psyche when you start being other people.

EDIT - But as to what you said I always need something of myself in them so I can root for them, and care about their journey.

I mean heck, I've murdered WAY less people since I started playing RPGs, which is handy cause I was running out of room in the basement.....  :D

I don't:
like,dislike,love or hate Flemeth.
I simple don't care about her at all she is just  a narrative device like Sandal.

One thing I really like about her is that she's a badass older woman.  How many of them do you find in games?  That alone makes her special, but mix that with her attitude and awesome outfit, damn, I wanna be her when I grow up.  :D

So many questions about her though....DAI spoiler -

I mean I did defeated her in DAO (and had to change to game difficulty to "easy" to do so) in order to get the grimoire for Morrigan...I didn't know then she was actually not an evil character. If I'd ever play the game again,I think I'd just take the grimoire without putting a finger on her...can't believe I really really respect her at this point...and yes,she looks better than women half of her age! That body makes Jane Fonda go hiding!

The Harvester and Gaxkang were far more powerful than her and defeat Flemeth is easy even on nightmare unless you do not have a well trained enough warden or at least some decent strategy.

One thing I have to wonder is what exactly was planned in the Exalted March expansion. The Well of Sorrows stuff and Flemeth was supposed to be in DA2 originally.. then when things got canceled, they recycled it. David Gaider was bummed even after DAI came out that he doesn't want to talk too much about it.

No doubt Merrill would have had a better part. But I kind of wonder if Hawke could have drank and been tied to Mythal. Hell, I wonder if Flemeth would just outright adopt or even possess a female Hawke. She makes a better daughter than Morrigan. lol

In my opinion, the well of sorrow quest made little sense in DAI and it was a badly executed quest there.
It was planned in DAII as we all remember that Flemeth said too Hawke that in order to shapeshift into a dragon more than a clever tongue was needed.
The developers wanted to have Merril,Hawke,Flemeth and Morrigan all involved in the exalted march Dlc(there is some internal info in DAII about Morrigan she was planned to be there not in DAI),with the decision to use one between Hawke,Merril and Morrigan for the well of sorrow ,pretty much Corypheus had nothing to do with that quest and this is way DAI ending feel rushed.

Yeah, I know. It's too bad. But I think Merrill suffers as a character now more than Hawke does. I mean she's just pointless in the big scheme of things when they canceled that.

Wait....it just occured to me that you can kill Merrill at the end of DA2.  If the expansion was cancelled before DA2 was released then maybe they thought 'screw it, now you can kill her'. However if the expansion was cancelled after DA2 then Merrill could never have been important to the plot as she might be dead.  Right?
