i believe somewhere (correct me if i am completely wrong) in the trilogy it mentions Quarians trying to splice there genes with the Turians so they can fix there immune systems so they don't have to use there suits

in saying that Turians and Quarians would have to have the same amount if not similar amount of chromosomes to at least mate or conceive

as well this is the future and genetic modification is possible with what Major Kirrahe said to Javik (a Prothean) thinking he been a modified Turian or Drell

if modification and hybridization is possible. then bending of chromosome in  a fictional world (remember this world brought Shepard back via the Lazarus project) would be possible for human and turians and there offspring more than likely would look like a Quarian

but then again i think Bioware would've look at this subject already for Andromeda the time gap from (if there is even a major time gap let alone a way in which science finds a way to manipulate gene traits in two species to make them form perfectly into something real like instead of abomination chestburst) within mass effect trilogy milky way timeline to Andromeda if they had the time or even the expense in the mass effect universe to even acknowledge the science for a loving quarian/turian/human/drell couple

serious questions

  • do you think it'll work in the Andromeda universe?
  • do you think it'll be in Andromeda universe?
  • do you think it'll be acknowledged as Garrus acknowledged  in ME3?

id like your ideas on this current subject cause i wouldn't mind thinking how this type of story aspect would be included in Andromeda.

its nothing to serious but it was just a random idea mixed in with "i want to see a Quarian without a mask on" then "oh i want to see what that Turian/Quarian child would look like" then "oh tali looks human its just her arms, legs and diet that's Turian in  nature" then "hold up is this what a Turian human hybrid look like... just a standard sickly Quarian"

Given that hybrids don't already play a significant role in Mass Effect lore, I doubt we'll see any in Andromeda.

While it would technically be possible with the level of tech they have, it would just be another model and set of animations the artists needed to spend time on.

and this is the game series where we still haven't seen female versions of all the species yet.

well with females we've already got Turian, human, Quarian, Krogan, Salarian

I'd say we'll see female drell and volus next if anything

We haven't really seen beneath the suit of Quarians yet though, so I'd say we haven't even seen the male species for some races either. Volus included.

Doubt you will ever see a Human-Turian hybrid even if they do make something like that. They different types of DNA to the point where we can't even share foods.

It won't matter, because Asari dominance will slowly eradicate alien phenotypes.

The only hybrids we've seen are those made by the Reapers and that was enough for me. Nature doesn't work the way you think. Cross-breading two organism of the same species is not the same as cross-breading two totally different organisms. It simply doesn't work and when it does work most of the times the hybrid is sterile.

Other than the Krogan Turian hybrids that try to rip your face off from the second mission onwards you mean.

I'm a little concerned about trying to stuff a Turian into a Krogan.

Especially if the Krogan is still alive.

We'll liquefy it first, I know a guy on Illium who'll drink anything.

I doubt this would ever even be possible, actually. It isn't just splicing some genes of each vastly different species together (assuming they all use deoxyribonucleic acid AND that they use the same triple codon encoding scheme AND the same base nucleotide scheme AND that each codon means the same thing AND that post-translational modification doesn't play a significant role and isn't vastly different between species...). The milieu of protein machinery within the cell all work together as an interconnected network. Even assuming all that I mentioned was not an issue, which I would say would be impossible, then the likelihood that any genes you introduce would produce proteins that are functional with a given species biochemisty is vanishingly unlikely.

There's a Codex entry in ME1 that explains a lot about genetic engineering.

There is a law in place that basically says you can improve on what is already there, but not add anything new, whether functions or parts.

So augmenting a human's strength and bone structure is legal, but adding a tail or the ability to digest plastic is not.

Funnily enough, by that same law, medi-gel is technically illegal, but it's just too darn useful to ban.

Of course, you have areas outside Council space that don't follow that rule, and there are rumors of people who elevate their pets to a state of semi-sentience.

Make of that what you will.

As for Andromeda; given what we know, I think a larger concern for the Ark and those aboard is going to be more fundamental like survival rather than something as esoteric as this.

Besides, many of the major differences between the species is due to how they evolved on their homeworlds, so trying to mash together two different sets of kabillion-year-old fine-tuning can't end well.

There's my two cents.

I think introducing any inter-species hybrids in the ME universe would be a bad idea.

Contrary to the wishful thinking of some with alien fetishes, you're more "likely" to be able to reproduce with a hippo or a crocodile on the count of a common bacterial origin than E.T.

The Mass Effect Universe is not like the Star Trek Universe where most sentient Species have a common ancestor (see Ep."The Chase" TNG Season 6, Episode 20) and Hybrids are possible at all.

This magic-hybrid-wonder babys, who are so popular in the ME-Fanfiction are highly unlikely. I think Hybrids only possible in a Post-Synthesis ME-Universe.

I don't care if it's possible or not, but I'd love to play a Drell/Human hybrid.

Give me biotics, let me be a drellman and I will be the luckiest individual on the planet.

Probably.

You're more likely to be able to reproduce with a fern or the actual bacteria that is your common ancestor.

That is, until biower writes in some awful lore that the reason almost everything with sapience has two legs, two arms, a head with brain and nervous systems, with bilateral symmetry and sexual reproduction is because of tampering by ancient aliens or the Reapers or something else awful. Then we'll get all the furry fetishes anyone could ever want.

It's possible. We just need a bard since they're responsible for every cross species being in existence.

I don't think people understand how similar we are to chimps and yet how different. Humans have 46 chromosomes and Chimps 48. That is close in terms of the premiss of the op and we share the same genetics we are near identical so close in fact that if you just looked at the numbers you'd think how could these not be able to "cross breed."

Seeing Red

Most genes in humans and chimps are nearly identical. Both species have the OPN1LW gene, which allows them both to see the color red. But mice lack OPN1LW--and have trouble seeing red.

... And Yet So Different

If human and chimp DNA is 98.8 percent the same, why are we so different? Numbers tell part of the story. Each human cell contains roughly three billion base pairs, or bits of information. Just 1.2 percent of that equals about 35 million differences. Some of these have a big impact, others don't. And even two identical stretches of DNA can work differently--they can be "turned on" in different amounts, in different places or at different times.

If humans and chimps can't create hybrids and we share the same genetic evolution aka common ancestor and are just over 1% difference how is it even plausible that two species that do not share the same evolutionary history will be able to breed with medical help? it isn't plausible.

Contrary to the wishful thinking of some with alien fetishes, you're more "likely" to be able to reproduce with a hippo or a crocodile on the count of a common bacterial origin than E.T.

This.

Indeed, and besides, there's plenty of variety amongst our own species without needing to indulge in weird fetishes with sexually incompatible extra terrestrials.

The only form of hybridization that I can see being even slightly possible in science fiction is the Xenomorph, but even then its more a parasite that takes on the traits of its host.
