For the DA:I veterans, what golden moments would you recommend?

Hello  :)   MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DA:I obviously.....

I've played DA:I once so far and am planning at least a couple more runs.  There were a couple of moments that were wonderful and I think they were better for the character and world I happened to do them in.  Which made me think, for those of you who've experienced many of the things the game has to offer, are there any particular character/class/romance/choice combos that have, in your opinion, excelled?

I've was a rogue dwarf with a Bull romance, pro-templar and 'all magic is bad' for my first playthrough.  I didn't recruit Cole, hated Solas, was friends with everyone else and Cass was the Divine.  I had a bit of faith and rooted for the little guy over the nobles.  Morrigan didn't have a kid, Anora was Queen but I didn't meet her, Loghain was Warden and I drank from the well.

I'm wondering if perhaps there were some golden moments that you'd recommend people try?  I know that I really must try an elven mage romancing Solas, so I'll do that.  Any other great combinations or must have experiences?   Or of course the opposite, any race, choice or romance that was just meh, so you should skip it and do something else perhaps...

Maybe a mage Cullen romance...but should it be human or elf?  A Cassandra romance, but human or dwarf?  etc etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.  Doing everything would probably take 20 runs and hmmm....might not have the patience for that.   :D

Well for one I think you should use a world state with the Dark Ritual/Morrigan having her child, makes some of her scenes very interesting/different.

I can't speak overly much to different race/class/romance/choice combos having only completed 3 playthroughs myself, one being very similar to the you described (dwarf rogue, went with templars, romanced Sera, etc.).

One thing I found that really added some unexpected depth to my RP experience during my elf mage solas-romance playthrough was befriending Dorian. She started off really mistrustful of him but later he turned into her best friend as they were both ultimately fish out of water in the Inquisition trying to improve the views the world has of their people. Also helps a lot to have a good friend companion like that when the solas romance starts twisting the knife.

Morrigan's appearance, IMO, is much more interesting if her son exists in the world state. The confrontation in the fade between her and Flemeth is one of my favorite moments in the game (assuming, of course, you played Origins and got the know her character in that game).

The Solasmance is my favorite, so I agree with that suggestion. The game has a different feel/slant played from the POV of an elf.

And I would also try at least one playthrough as a mage, with Cole friendship (because he's a great character too). The Cullen romance with a mage is good and has plenty of class specific dialogue.

I don't know how you feel about Alistair but I really enjoyed having him as the warden instead of Stroud. And it made the decision to sacrifice him or Hawke a lot harder :P

I was cynical as to whether there'd be much difference with Morrigan at all with Kieran so I'm happy to know there is!

Ah Alistair, I love him to bits but I started out DA:I with my 'Alistair is a wandering drunk' world.  Sad to miss him but he'll be there in the future.  I can only imagine how bad it is to sacrifice him....I'm gonna have to make sure I really don't like the Hawke I make in that world aren't I?

It's better if you're attached to both Hawke and Alistair in that worldstate, then scream at the screen, then curl up into a ball of agonized feels for an hour.  For a certain definition of "better," anyway :P

I really enjoy the Dorian romance, though its pacing is a bit weird.  Like with his friendship arc, it's easy to run through all of his content really quickly if you get high early approval with him.  So whether you romance or befriend Dorian, I'd recommend spacing out his talks so you don't leave him with nothing to say for half the game.  Same goes for Solas, actually.

A female mage (preferably circle mage) romancing Cullen is interesting; especially if your warden was a circle mage. It emphasizes Cullen's development throughout the three games. It shows how far Cullen has come from shamefully being attracted to a mage, to believing mages were "weapons," to again falling for a mage (and potentially even marrying her); this time one who reciprocates his feelings. Very romantic. Her being a dalish elf creates unnecessary barriers and distorts the mentioned irony I feel.

Romancing Sera either as a qunari or elf provides some uniqueness as well.

Solas' romance has its moments but I was very disappointed by the severe lack of content; barely knowing you're even in a romance with him. There wasn't even a "kiss him" option.

Having at least one playthrough with OGB Kieran is worth it, I think. I enjoyed his cryptic comments about... well, everything, but especially about the different races. The confrontation scene with Flemeth was great.

Besides a Solas romance, I think Blackwall/Cadash (I like the ex-criminal/redemption angle) and Sera/any Inquisitor (because there's sooo much race-specific content with her) are worth a shot.

And I loved talking to Hawke and Trespasser!Varric as a Qunquisitor. So much lolz.

And if you haven't recruited the mages at least once I would absolutely do that. In Hushed Whispers was amazing.

Will echo above - go the mages route. In Hushed Whispers is a great mission. Did templars on my first playthrough and tried In Hushed Whispers on the second, fell in love and now can't play any other way!

Also one of my highlights was taking an all mage party to the Temple of Mythal. 5 mages and EVERYTHING explodes.

You say your first playthrough was pro-Templar so I'm assuming you completed Champions of the Just. For golden moments I can't recommend In Hushed Whispers enough ("Though darkness closes, I am shielded by flame..."). It was amazing.

Recruit Cole. Aside from being an interesting character in his own right, he gives you insight into others like no one else can. You just have to get used to his way of speaking. I record all banter, but I would listen to his over and over to try to figure out WTF he was saying...and when I did it was really, really intriguing.

Be friends with Solas. He's got a really interesting way of looking at the world and he'll share more with you if you're friends.

Import a world state where Kieran has the soul of an old god. That scene with Flemeth, Morrigan and Kieran was, to me, a highlight of the entire series. I never thought I'd see the icy "only power is meaningful" Morrigan in such a state.

Cullen's romance was great if you like angst that that can turn into a loving, healthy relationship. It was very feel good, and I felt like I had control over the pacing, which was interesting. I romanced him as a human rogue, though in hindsight I kind of wish I played a mage. Oh well.

Also try Leliana for Divine if you can. I loved her as Divine in Trespasser, she seemed entirely suited for the position. I personally prefer her as softened Divine, but if you want blood staining the carpets of the Grand Cathedral, go the hardened route.

Wow that'd be harsh!  I can handle some 'agonized feels' though so I'll try and make my Hawke more loveable.  Let's face it, Alistair's coming out of there alive and well so it's an easy choice, but I suppose I can lay it on thick and make a sarcastic femHawke who I have a soft spot for.  Oh god I'm already imagining Varric's face...

Thank you for the Dorian/Solas info.  I assumed there'd be less content so rarely spoke to ppl at Skyhold to keep the pacing going.  Then boom everything triggered all at once which I was not expecting I can tell you.  However if those 2 have less romantic stuff then I'll hold back on them to space it out.  Ta.

Hadn't thought of that, I guess it would round out Cullen's story nicely.  There I was thinking of a guy mage Morrigan romance...you've got the cogs in my brain whirring now.  Sad about what you said about Solas tho.  I hope he isn't always doing calibrations...  :(

Race-specific content with Sera?  Well I have to know now...bugger.  She was one of the few I wasn't gonna bother with!  I'm gonna end up with 12 playthroughs aren't I?

Surprised about what you said with a Qunquisitor, I got the impression they weren't very good and ignored by the story.  Hmmmm..... *thinking cap on*

I'm starting to think my next year of gaming is all sorted now, I won't want to play another game of Wicked Grace for a decade after this.   :D

Wow, Cole sounds very cool.  I didn't recruit him because it was my anti-magic world and there's no way his 'getting in your head gubbins' would be tolerated by my toon so he was out.  I was okay with that tho as it saved him up for next time, some fresh content for my second run.  I'll make sure to listen carefully.

Really?  I have to be friends with Solas?  But standing on my tippy toes and walloping him in the face was so. good. :D   Nah okay, I'll be his mate.

With what you're all saying I can't wait to meet Kieran.

'Blood staining the carpets of the Grand Catherdral'.  Damn.  This I have to see.

Ohhh yes! She has oodles of race-specific content compared to everyone else. Spoiler tagged just in case...

Yeah, there are times when your race should probably factor into things and it doesn't, but I still enjoyed it immensely. There are still a lot of people that call you an ox, comment on your height, ask if you're going to try to convert them to the Qun, etc. I think Hawke and Varric's comments are worth it alone. Also Adaar's war table missions are the best. THE BEST.

Thanks man, appreciate it.  Looks like it's worth going the way of the bull after all.  There I was dismissing it.

As for Sera, I like how each race is commented on by her and changes the dialogue.  Definitely something I'll try one day.

Cole is great if you can get past how invasive he can be. He truly wants to help, but being from the dreaming world he doesn't have a very good sense of the boundaries in the waking world, particularly social boundaries. I'm fond of him but there were times even I was uncomfortable.

Well in case I gave you the wrong idea, you don't actually see the blood running in Val Royeaux, but you sure do hear about it. Hardened Leliana is flippin' scary.

While I much prefer the Champions of the Just mission, I agree that you simply must do a Hushed Whispers run. It is a very different quest with some very scary moments. A must do.

Hah!  If they did spray blood up the walls of Val Royeaux it'd be epic....think about it, with the blue paint and the red blood, the walls would be a very pleasing shade of purple.

Cole sure sounds interesting.

Morrigan's appearance, the landscapes, the graphics, environments, cutscenes, casandra romance for male protagonist

female human mage is perfect for inquisition, fits perfectly,

seeing the allis in the final battle,

the ancient elves in the well of sorrows, great surprise

having skyhold, seeing the protagonist from DAO and DA2

and all those little details that dragon age fans and bioware fans recognize

My golden moments are always these  - human warrior / Cullen, mage route, dark ritual, denial of being specifically chosen, softened Devine Leliana and the warden always gets left behind, irregardless if it's Alistair.

Thanks for the tips.   :)  I'll try to remember your advice with Dorian, sounds like a plan as I'm imagining my Solas-mancing elf will be pretty unpopular with almost everybody else.  How is the Sera romance compared to the box office ones?

I'm not sure I can properly address how Sera's romance compares to ones like Cullen, Cass, or Josie, I've only done Solas & Iron Bull's in my other playthroughs. I will say though, that Sera's romance was a lot of fun, I enjoyed it more than Bull's, it developed a bit more naturally imo. It also has some genuinely hilarious moments, assuming you're down for Sera's crass brand of humor.

I loved Bull so so much, if Sera's is more enjoyable then blimey I'll have to do it won't I?  As for her humour, I hated it at first but now I feel obligated to type Coryphy-****** or Coryphy-nus or Coryfy-phish at every available opportunity.   That girl really grows on ya.

Is that Alistair in your avatar?  I haven't met him yet as he may umm...*ahem*....have gotten a little bit upset with me and gone off to be an alcoholic.  So, yeah....anyway if it is he is looking damn fine.

That is indeed Alistair as a Warden. That shot is also his reaction to one of my Inquisitors gushing a bit over meeting the Alistair, hero of the fifth blight. lol

Oh he'd love that  :D

Can't wait to see him again, so much so I'm probably gonna have to switch from supporting the Templars in my as yet unplayed canon world, to the mages, purely so I can see him and ask about my Warden Queen.  I'm very upset that as King he's gated behind In Hushed Whispers, not fair for us Templar lovers *cry*

for rmances, IMHO, you need to do the following:

Fem Qunari, any class/Sera

Fem Elf Mage/Cullen

Male Qunari, any class/ Cassandra

Fem Elf, any class/Solas

Any gender Qunari/Bull

Any gender, Any race/ Josephine

Fem human, any class/ Blackwall

Male anything/Dorian

That pretty much gets the best of all of the romances, then for fun you need to do a no romance whatever you like best and flirt with harding, or flirt with everyone, or no one, just totally do what you want and don't worry about approval or making it consistent or anything, just take each decision as your gut tells you and do that, see what happens.

Cass can romance a Qunari?  Well I didn't know that.  Presumed she'd be all racist like Cullen, that sounds like a pretty cool match tbh.  And seeing how I don't like the English guy voice from Downton Abbey it would let me be Zevran's VA instead.  hmmmm....

Thank you for all the tips, does that mean you've tried all of those out?  If so then I salute you, Sir.  For Science!!
