VIs are great. They double your fave weapon amp.
Well, I guess it's about time for a Valiant thread

I played with Valiant 8 mostly as a backup weapon yesterday and it actually performed even better than expected on gold. It actually felt like it's better at shooting down grunts than BW as long as you headshot and it's so much easier to do this with virtually no recoil and just perfect timing on fire rate. It's something that really well translates from theory about losing time on realigning shots on BW I was going about yesterday. Headshots are easy on this rifle, it just flows naturally, while with BW you actually have to aim again every time. And in practice this does makes a difference.
But would I replace it with BW on platinum? That's a good question. After all this somehow I still don't feel confident. I guess I'll have to try.

If it makes it easier to learn headshots, then I'll be using it often - I have the Widow and BW but rarely use them because of my headshot noobfaildom. I've probably obtained more kills with the Raptor.

The Valiant is a really smooth, & forgiving rifle, if you learn to reload cancel it you should have a non stop firing SR.

Used to put it on my asari adept. Cool downs are reasonable and boom booms + stasis sniping = fun

Yeah on Asari Adept it sounds like a better Carnifex. Good choice.

It's kind of fun to use it with a caster build for a biotic sniper.
Asari Adept's Stasis helps set up easy head shots. It's definitely not a roflstomp choice, but it can be fun and effective.

It's the easiest SR to headshot - and to learn to headshot - with. The thing about learning to headshot is that you will start off by scoring less and going down more, because you will be missing a fair amount of the time. But if you stick to it, you can learn to do it quite reliably. Siren encouraged me to start trying a while ago and it eventually came together for me, after a lot of tough games. I still don't get the 20 HS medal every game, but it's nice to be in with a chance.
And recently I got the 20 HS medal with the Argus(!), including killing a Prime with a headshot, head-blowing-off animation and all. That made the practice feel worthwhile ![]()

Like QMR mentioned, overload synergizes fantastically with the Valiant. With most set-ups you can wipe out every gold mook with overload + headshot. The light weight allows you to do this quite frequently too. If you can alternate between shielded and unshielded targets, you pretty much never stop killing things.
One of my favorites for this style is the TSent. Warp is a nice bonus for damage to armored targets. This build wouldn't work as well with a BW due to prohibitively long cooldowns on both warp and overload. With the following build one headshot will eliminate any target down to just health, even phantoms. Throw in a high-level power amp module and overload will one-shot all mook shields, including geth.
http://kalence.drupa...B5!!..E5!BC9A5G
Note that this build shows that this style is possible without any consumables and only an uncommon gear bonus as long as the Valiant is at level V. Even with a Valiant I all you would need to add is an extended barrel. Furthermore, a Valiant X with the warp debuff, warp rounds and a rail amp does 2579 damage to boss armor with a headshot and is much more forgiving of misses than a BW which boosts the Valiant DPS advantage even further than the theoretical comparison. Quite effective.

I find the huntress to be a very good niche. It has a nice instant stagger to help aim (and let you place those twho sots on mooks).
And it really takes advantage of its super high dps (it has the highest multi-clip dps with reload cancel among SR) as its damage bonus (ie the damage frome the biotic power/warp rounds combo) lasts longer than the 3 secs of a traditional cloak.

I use it on a single SS Shadow. That way I can engage enemies from far away, then reposition with SS. It's light enough and looks very cool in a combo with her.
Also your SS is powerful enough to 1 shot Gold Phantoms since you can use the damage cloak.

Used to run the Valiant on the SI a whole lot. Back when it was practically the only "weekend" gun where I would get upgrades.
Either SI or one of the engineer's with an anti-shield power are the characters I like it the best on.

It's my go-to sniper on the QMI, this way he has both massive group control and high single-target DPS. Even if you suck at headshots on mooks, with Arc nades it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Oh, I also use the Valiant on the Vanilla Human Engineer quite a bit. She's a really good option for it. Lightweight, long range, compliments her Drone/Overload stuns well. Forgot about that.

Edit: Should have mentioned I was using drill rounds III in the first match and AP rounds II in the second. And I did notice that shield gate mechanic big time, since I was able to plug unshielded Geth Troopahs for a OHK but stupid Hunters would require 3-5 Valiant rounds (remember I can't aim well) to dispatch, although of course most of the time I just fed them Energy Drain and shot at them when staggered. Pyros were even worse and there were many situations in which I certainly would have bought it (at least more than I did) if I hadn't equipped piercing ammo.
All the feedback from everyone has been helpful! And - Operator m1, thanks for the tl;dr version below

Valiant:
It's fire rate, reload speed, and scope stability can be summed up as: user friendly
Anti-mook; amazing rate of headshots in short order the better you get (20 headshots before 25 kills by W2-3 is the norm for me on SI/QFI)
Needs AP ammo for bosses
Good on kits with shield-strip
Naturally SI is one of the best kits to use it on
Great for depleting wave budget from as far as the length of the map away.
Apparently still is higher DPS than black widow
I prefer using AP4 with thermal scope and EB
Only complaint is that shield gate is a ******, and I hope biower does something about it and SR headshots in ME:A

I run Valiant SI with Disruptor Ammo, then double up on Piercing with the combo barrel and piercing mod. It's got enough ammo capacity by default, and if you do run out that is simply a reminder to use a TCP for a damage bonus.
Cloak > Energy Drain > Shoot with this setup will take off a lot of Shields, plus still have plenty of Armor Penetration. Or you can Cloak > Shoot > Energy Drain for a Tech Burst on certain enemies (Atlas etc).
You can also Cloak > Shoot > Proximity Mine for a Tech Burst on any enemy. This is also much simpler with the Valiant, as Proximity Mine is best laid at the enemy's feet. Black Widow recoil is a detrimental effect to this end.

Since I just unlocked it and I haven't seen a thread on it in the last twelve months (can't be necroing, after all).
Besides being good on a Turian, what are some particularly suitable applications for this thing? Because it apparently provides a crutch for bad aimers like me, I assume the damage is mediocre. I'm using the SI this week - any value in trying it out?
Salarian Infiltrator, AP IV rounds, damage barrel (no AP mods on gun). FTW. Not only is this gun extremely accurate but with AP rounds it drops everything fast. With the fire rate, quick reload and clip size, this gun does not need a sidearm. Still one of the best sniper rifles in the game since day 1.

Valiant multi clip dps reload cancel (do you even? I don't!): 736
It's been a while since i used it but I don't remember you could reload cancel Valiant. Does anybody really do that? I thought it's fast enough for not having to do it, but apparently you can achieve even higher numbers with it - I didn't test this. Source
So yeah, in sustained dps race the Valiant can actually be a great gun on some classes. It is also much lighter than BW. So yes, Valiant can be much more than decent. Just use it right.
I missed this part.
I do on the PS3 no less. Out of habit. Constantly.
I vaguely remember people thought I was joking when I say I do.
