Yep I'd imagine so, but I meant more as a genetic comparison.....it would be interesting if the Dalish could harness a little of their old immortality and yet it was lost to the city elves.

But that would only have made sense if Bioware decided to go with the explanation of their immortality that the Dalish had believed. If the elves didn't lose their immortality to the humans, there's no reason being away from them would give them any of it back.

Yeah but that would mean the Dalish were right about something, and how likely is that?

Elves used to be immortal, and a being named Fen'Harel sealed away a bunch of powerful beings who were worshiped as gods.

You know what's funny? Duncan says he isn't recruiting you out of pity, but because your skills would be useful. Skills which... he did not witness.

lol.. I never actually slept with her.

But my female Aeducan seduced Cammen.. which was hilarious.. and kind of sad.

I was honestly laughing at her name. If I were to remake Origins, I'd probably change her name.

Well, you kill a bunch of darkspawn. It's probably not dramatic, gameplay wise, but besides the Aeducan, it's the only origin that fights them. And Aeducan is a Commander in the Deep Roads.

He probably also knows you're one of that clan's best hunters. Tamlen's one of the best, and he says you're better.

Yeah but he did see the darkspawn you left behind and you had the Keeper's endorsement.  And it would be just rude to point out that you already being infected and resisting it fairly well, makes you an unusually good prospect to survive the initiation draft.

Yeah, but you didn't go there alone. What if Merril/Fenarel did most of the work? Duncan would never know.

True enough, though I wonder if being already tainted before the Joining doesn't give Mahariel a shorter life span than most Grey Wardens.

True.. I was actually just thinking about that.. on a new run. I guess with Merrill, he knew they valued Keepers too much. Fenarel just got lucky, I guess.

I still love the scene where he conscripts you against your will. The Keeper agreeing to it is just so mean. Easily my favourite Origin just because of that scene.

No idea how you figure that.

I think it adds a little punch to Merathari in DA2, especially if your Warden died. Then she sacrifices herself for Merrill.

Haha it's so this :D

But in DA2 there's a mention of this if you bring Merrill with you when Hawke get to see king Alistair, she asks him about the promised land for the Dalish and he respond that it didn't go as well as they hoped for and that he keeps trying because he made a promise to a friend (Mahariel).

Yeah, that's too bad... one of the few things that doesn't sit with me well about the origin.

The other stuff is minor. Like the lack of Irish accents :P I think my Mark Meer elf is a better fit for the Alienage.

Dalish armor in general looks better in DA2/DAI as well... even if I don't like the DAI body models.

For me it's the opposite. I preferred the Elves' accents in Origins.

Well, I love Merrill's especially.. but that's Welsh.

I just think if they are gonna do a Celt thing, it's a little weird going back to DAO. Unless it's a City Elf..which is consistent.

It does bother me everytime DAI's VA says elven words with the English language's "R".

That time when Merril summoned Flemeth would be a good example of it being done right.

This might be a stupid question, but how is one way wrong and another right, when it's a made up language, with pronunciation changing between games (like ar-LATH-uhn becoming ar-luh-THON) anyway?
I'm not trying to be a smart aleck, I swear, I'm legitimately interested if there's some reasoning behind this, 'cause languageing be neatish.

Because part of the point in creating another language is that it should be different from your own. Otherwise, why bother doing it at all?

Might as well have everyone speak the "common tongue" at all times, as we have it in TES.

What word are you talking about exactly?

Revas for example uses a regular R sound heard in English.

Just watched the clip again. It... really doesn't.

Anyhow, maybe it is all thanks to Merrill's accent.

Well, pronunciation conventions are going to occasionally be the same between languages, even coincidentally. Like how vowel sounds and the rolling "r" sound are actually pretty similar between Spanish and Japanese, despite the two languages not being related.
If anything, what's weirder to me, is how all the Orlesians, for example, speak English with French accents, despite only the occasional spattering of Justice Friends-level French into their actual speech. I mean, I get kind of why it was done from a writing perspective, but it's more of a standout than some of the actual "foreign languages" not sounding foreign enough, at least for me.

Anyhow, maybe it is all thanks to Merrill's accent.

I think it is, honestly. I feel like a lot of the Elven language use in the series ended up being a result of the actors just being given "nonsense" words to read without being told what they really mean sometimes, nor any coaching as to the proper pronunciation (there's a really noteworthy occurrence of this in Inquisition, with a certain Elven mission contact in the Hinterlands). Though in a weird way, I think that's appropriate for the Dalish sometimes, since they're just sort of half-reforming a memory of a memory.

You sure you aren't overthinking this a little?

I could have sworn that I read Inon Zur wrote the lyrics for that originally... and it was nonsensical and slightly Tolkien based. Then they had Aubrey Ashburn, an American, sing it.. In DAO, In Uthenera is Leliana's Song. It still sounds the same.
