I was playing Diablo 1 before Diablo 2 came out.

I'm not the oldest gamer I know, and I'm aware I'm not the oldest gamer here, but the fact remains that I recently attended a wedding between two people I used to game with. They're both younger than me. Halp.

Same here, i have a friend who's gonna be married in a couple of day and i'm the old lone wolf of the group :D

I scoffed at Diablo when it came out... but I was well around then too. I'm mid-30s... not too old really. I guess many gamers are in this age range.

I've since come to appreciate Diablo btw.

I've been gaming since Atari, RPGs since Sega Genesis and PC gaming since Everquest and BG2.  Celebrated my 30th wedding anniversary last year. :D

Technically I'd say my first gaming was in arcades.. I'm sure that's the same for you? But I had the 2600. My friend had a Colecovision which was so much cooler. Then I got a 5200, then a Nintendo. Then everything else B)

Until just few seconds ago I was feeling that way about being in my mid-twenties.

That explains the Comic Sans font in your signature.

Do you have a problem with the font Comic Sans that demands you to tell me this? Or something of a sort?

I suppose.

Some advice? Don't get used to being in your late teens. It doesn't last.

It seems rather challenging to romance Leliana as a Dalish Warden.

Realistically, the whole "Maker, Maker, Maker" would be a real turn off at least in the beginning.

And later, she congratulates you for not being a savage. Very tactful.

For me, it kind of works like DAI.The whole Sacred Ashes quest becomes their Road to Damascus episode. It opens their minds more. Compound that, say, with guilt from the origin story and they might welcome support from someone like Leliana. And Leliana teaches about Shartan, which is something only the Dalish do still. If you're not guilt ridden in any way though, and play it as self-righteous, I don't think it works. But if that's the case, I think you should hate Alistair and Duncan for being full of ****, let Sten rot, and kill Zevran.

It's not as neatly straightforward as a City Elf or mage, but in a way, it picks up where the war of the Dales left off. There was a famous tale of an Orlesian woman who fell in love with a Dalish, before the war killed the both of them.

Atari, huh?  I don't suppose you remember the game "Adventure"?  Not exactly an RPG, but definitely Sword and Sorcery!  (There were dragons in it!)  A great game to show to young people to freak them out with the ancient graphics!

No, more of a pac-man, pong and Joust player.  And yea, I played arcades first, had high score in Time Pilot at the EM Club at NAS Barber's Point back when I was a corpsman in the USN.  I do remember watching a kid play that game that was illustrated by Don Bluth (about a goofy knight trying to rescue a princess from a dragon--Dragon's Lair?) though I couldn't play that one, got my butt killed right outside the gate every time.

Yup Dragon's Lair. He also made Space Ace.

There was another animated game like that I forgot the name of, but I've been looking for it for decades. It had an action scene in it with a helicopter... it took place in the modern world.

Ah talking about Merrill, if you import a world state with a dalish warden to DA2 she'll often talk of him/her and by the tone of the voice, you can guess that she was very found of him/her, it may even be love :P well i headcanon that it was the case, Merrill was secretly in love of Mahariel :D

Oh and there's the good bye scene at the end of the origin story, the stare she gave confort my idea

Here is a video with some dialogue where Merrill mentions Mahariel :

I kind of think so too.

But it must've been one-sided, from her view. Because she also says she didn't have any friends.

I kind of roleplay my Dalish having the hots for the herder/redhead chick. And he's kind of a jerk to Merrill... intimidates her to bring Fenarel along. Little did he know that she was in love with him. :P

Probably. But she is the only one Mahariel stops to talk to during that cutscene where s/he leaves the clan.

I think it would be good roleplay fun to decide what the words were.

@Apo: You don't need to headcanon that at all. One of the npcs at the Dalish camp in DA2 says it clearly, "I know Merrill was fond of Mahariel."

I think in my case, he's sort of apologizing for being a bully.. or just giving that knowing look..not able to say it.

Thing is, I also kind of roleplay that Maren, the herder, has a thing for Tamlen. Unrequited love all around.

I never get that line in my games, but I heard about it so I wasn't so sure :P

Anyway, the one thing that I really want is that one day Merril and Mahariel get to see each other and hug

You'd probably spot it if you turned on subtitles. The Dalish wander a bit and go out of range. But you can always see their subtitles if turned on.

That maybe the case, I never stay long or try to speak with the npc in the dalish camp, I just go to see and get Merrill as soon as possible  :D
