Hmm.... it's possible that the damage has been ramped up (idk for sure, though, since I only recently started playing DA MP on PS4), though, I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that multiple ground effects spawned in the same location and hit you all at once (happens quite often with Venatori Spellbinders and mages).

was the case of him spawning ground effect then him dying half a second later and me moving away, running along and dmg is just tearing at my health

cant remember saarebas doing that a week or 2 ago, im pretty sure it would end as u moved out of the aoe

No. the spell effect lasts even after you run away from the saarebas and after he died.im pretty sure it would end as u moved out of the aoe
And it's a dot damage so don't be surprised if it ticks 3 or 5 times per seconds.
The purple puddles are just visual effect though, nothing happens if you stand right on top of it (sometimes) whilst other times even if you didn't step on the pubble you still get caught by the dot effect. Looks like it just has a chance to apply to anyone stands in melee range.

I count to 5 after a Saarebus died and then go "YES!" if I didn't drop dead.
Although I have to say that I have never died that way on my AW. I guess it has to do with range attacks, guardian spirit, constant full health & barrier. And a few times I took unyielding on my warrior or SS and saw it tripped but didn't die.

might be lag tbh, sometimes it stops nearly right away othertimes it cuts at u like a pack of angry kittens, but lag does make everything worse ie i took double fall dmg earlier due to lag
