What romance mechanics would you like in the new Mass Effect?

I don't necessarily mean the type of person/alien who's available, more how it works in game.

I know, I know, many people don't care for the romances.  I, however, am a hopeless fluffy marshmallow when it comes to that kind of stuff and really enjoy them.  Not only that but I find a different romance per playthrough helps me know who my Shep is, and gives me fresh content to experience.

Doesn't mean I don't have any criticisms of how they've worked in the original trilogy though.

This is what I'd like....

1 - Seeing how Shep made some pretty huge decisions like deciding the fate of an entire species, I'd like one or two love interests to have a very bad reaction to some of the decisions you may make.  For example, say you could romance a Krogan (that'd be interesting  ) but you decided not to cure the genophage.  I'd like it to be a point of no return and they dump you there and then.  Actual consequences for some of the very polarising choices in the game.  Not all the time, not for every romance, but only when truly applicable so that it isn't overused.

2 - Sex.  Why oh why can you only sleep with your LI at the END of ME1 and 2??

'Oh look honey, we're probs gonna die, so let's wait till the night before.  Hopefully it won't be weird, or awkward, or 'how the heck do you have sex with a turian' sex, and will go really well first time round.  It better, apparently it's all we've got.'

Nope.  Hate that.  Let me take it at my pace please and trigger the scenes when I want to.  I mean, wouldn't Tali get sick?  Shouldn't you get giggedy giggedy a while before the SM to make sure she's healthy enough to fight?  Shouldn't Garrus and femShep "practice" with Mordin's instructional vids a few times?

3 - More cutscenes.  I just romanced Iron Bull in my first DA:I run and was really happy with the amount of cutscenes and moments he and my IQ had together.  They triggered all the way through the majority of the game so were well paced, and ended with a great scene on the balcony.  I'd ask for that amount of dedicated content for every romance, I loved it.

Thoughts?

Indeed, I want more dates in-between. Or private alone time when we feel like it. And no blue-skinned stalkers.

I really really hated how no one ever criticized Shepard's decisions throughout the trilogy always made me angry. It was like they all joined the Cult of The Shepard just ugh.

Would you deny true interspecies love?

Something I would like is the option to do other things with your love interest, outside of their respective story arcs. For example, take them out on a date. Something like in the Citadel DLC, but not specific, or maybe something specific for different companions. And these would be repeatable, preferably. One, it would add another level of content that is completely optional, as are the romances themselves and two, this would allow you to take the romance at your complete own pace., instead of just relying on after main mission cutscenes.

I would also like it if they could break up with you if they disapprove with your decisions. I think that would just add another level to the romances. Make you actually work at it, and this would fall into my point above as well, instead of just relying on specific dialogue choices at certain points in the game.

I know, it didn't even occur to me first time round, it was the second run when I started to think 'why isn't anyone giving me grief over this???'

Of course not, all for it, but that?  That's introducing me to my breakfast all over again.

I'd like more (all?) romances to be out of the core team of people, either off ship or not directly under our command. Also for Donk to be temp banned every time that image gets posted.

Me too, I'd take a cuddle on the sofa even.  I dunno if you played DAI but I could go have a booty call with Bull, it would fade to black then he'd slap my dwarf's bum and watch her walk away with an admiring look on his face.  Not that I did that a few times or anything....

But if I could've done the same stuff in ME, say, ask Garrus up for a chat or something, it would've been great.

I like some with the core crew as it can change dialogue on missions, which I like.  But sleeping with your crew is a bit dodgy isn't it?  Pretty sure you'd be hauled up to a disciplinary board in ME1 for Ash or Kaidan.

I'm still new to all this, don't suppose I can hide that damn image from the thread can I?

Well the Council sort of does. I mean, you've got tons of chances to hang up on them in ME1. And in ME2 you've basically gone rogue. By ME3.....you're Space Jesus.

2. Yes, I dislike that "Let's leave the loving into the end when we only have a a moment to spare" style, as well. It's silly and doesn't reflect reality all that well. When you love someone, you want to take advantage of every possible moment you can. Granted, it's a game, but once in the end? Come on now...

3. Yes, yes, yes. I'm all in for more cutscenes. I'm not asking for BW to turn MEA into a dating sim but more cutscenes would be extremely nice.

On a side note, I really also liked the "booty calls" in DAI. Well, only Blackwall's was a bit poorly done. I mean, it started well but after the kiss ended, the scene turned awkward, like "Uh, nice weather today, isn't it?" awkward. Completely different from Cullen's, Bull's and Dorian's scenes. Such a shame, really.

I think you can have that for out of team romances, it's just it'l be the squad asking/speculating about that intelligence officer or journalist or whatever rather than harassing the squad mate in question. Because friends are jerks like that.

I guess it depends on what the future military is like. I've read that marriages forged in tend to last. But I think it's kind of odd for the whole pool of romances to be sub-ordinates.

Glad I'm not the only one.  If I'd been out questing for ages I loved coming back to Skyhold and asking Bull if he had any spare time.  Grinned every time   :D.

Shame about Blackwall tho.
