I personally really like that in DAI the romanceable characters had preferences. Sure, it was a bummer if you had your heart set on being a certain race or gender and then could not romance who you wanted due to that. But I also feel like it made the characters feel more real, they had their own interested, their own preferences. And it also makes it so their remarks and conversations can reflect that. I personally prefer that to just having LIs that are romanceable by everyone. But I also understand the frustration of not being able to romance who you want.

Agreed.  In particular I liked how Sera was handled.  But, as you comment in the end, it can be frustrating if you get the combo wrong.

This is why the only spoiler I allow myself with new games is the romance conditions.  No point in wasting time with a playthrough you wont be happy with.

I thought you meant the romances in the game, not the weirdos on the internet.

Unfortunately, they go hand-in-hand like alcohol and child abuse.

Lol…but a person can be an alcoholic without being a child abuser, and plenty of child abusers are stone sober.

Didn't know about that Solas dialogue(was basing on awful josie chaste romance) but that to me just would still be utterly jarring with fact rest of portrayal seems at best ambiguous in terms of their relationship. I don't think way sex component is handled should be the same across but I don't think there should be ambiguity as to when it happens . If they really wish to have a religious no sex before marriage say I wouldn't have an issue even if I doubt that would be a romance I'd have interest in.

Josie's romance was the best one Bioware has done to date in my opinion. I would love for them to have a romance be unambiguous about wanting the underlined as well, but that'll never happen so being ambiguous is as much as those who want it can get.

I always felt Josie was tailored to a specific kind of fan. I didn't enjoy it much but I can see the appeal for others.

BioWare romances don't have Colin Firth as Darcy.

I so wish they did, though.

She is a little too Disneyesque for me to seriously consider romancing .

Hopefully they continue appealing to that kind of fan.

Josephine has more an Swashbuckleresque kind of romance than Disneyesque.

I don't know, she's nothing like Olivia de Havilland and we don't get to fight Claude Rains.

Well, at least one of the people who worked on her compared the duel scene to a Swashbuckler scene.

True enough. They've done quite a few swashbuckler stories. It's a very popular genre. Robin Hood, Zorro, The Three Musketeers, The Princess Bride, Pirates of the Carribean, etc all fall under it.

meh... Darcy is too passé, he was born rich and his job is being rich.

Now you all need a genuine self-made working man with a deep baritone in his voice.

Being threatened by an overprotective Leiliana really added to it. Also it introduced conflict with her through Josie which gave it some drama. Nice touches if you prefer talkative down to earth romance.

What movie is that?

Its a BBC miniseries drama based on Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. Which is more like a realistic version of Pride and Prejudice (since it was set within the same era) and the book served different audience (more political though). There is romance and various similarities but the novel put more emphasis on the class differences, occupational hazards, child labor etc. But if you need a hot-blooded man, you'll need John Thornton.

I think Josie's one of the worst ones they have ever done personally.

What?  Blasphemy, Colin Firth IS Darcy.  Now Matthew Macfadyen in Spooks, oh hell yeah, but as Darcy?  Nope.   :P

Actually Richard Armitage was in Spooks too, this guy aoibhealfae linked -

You don't get much more dark and brooding than him, why isn't there a LI based on the lovely Richard?  Actually, you know which Bioware character I think he'd be awesome playing?   A young Loghain from the Stolen Throne.  Loghain would brood and walk around leather-clad with his group of 'night elves' assassins, being all quiet and mysterious and saving the world.  Richard Armitage would be amazing at that.  *swoon*

jeez... now you're making me melt in a puddle with the thoughts of tall hot sensuous muscularly broody men with serious dark past who just need your love to make his day better...

tumblr_nj7n1wIgUX1tolb2zo1_500.gif

except I don't have any faith that Bioware would permit that since it require an LI potentially being far more badass than their usual male protags stock. But hey, at least he's real.

I know right, if you could just love Loghain/Armitage enough, more than Rowan, then he wouldn't go batshit crazy 20 years later....damn.  I tell ya, reading The Stolen Throne gave me a wholeeeeee new perspective on DA:O.

It would be amazing if they did make a LI like that though, instead of the 'Knight in Shining Armour' we usually get.  Not that I'm complaining about Alistair or Cullen mind you, they're useful too.   ;)

The Leliana threat thing kind of bugs me in that I seem to get it even if I avoid every flirt option. As soon as I complete her personal quest, it triggers that dialogue.

I do enjoy the Inquisitor's dismissive response. "Yes yes you're the protective older sister that'll rip me to shreds if I so much as make Josephine sniffle."

That's more of an epilogue sort of thing, which I guess is fine so long as it's gated behind dialogue you choose.
