I believe Kaisershep's point still stands. You argue that a major emphasis is placed on romantic content and barely anything else yet a counterargument is claimed in in that platonic dialogue can be found in amounts that presents an alternative to that of romantic dialogue and that sometimes the romantic influence on a conversation is an additional remark and nothing else.

I've done a fair share of runs doing which I did not choose to explore the optional content of romance and I saw no emphasis placed on it. In Inquisition, I saw an emphasis that was on lore more than it was on romance. Now, I am of the opinion that Inquisition were lacking in certain aspects but I am not of the impression that it had to do with the romance content.

Therefore, I respectfully disagree with your assessments as I am of a different impression and opinion.

That's really interesting.  Playing DA:I without a romance is honestly something I'd never do.  Let's face it, if there are adorable characters offering snuggles, I'm gonna take them.  :D

But it's good to know that if you're not into that stuff the game still holds up.  It's not something I would ever have found out on my own so thank you for sharing  :)

Yes and I addressed that counter arguement. Sure, I understand that there are platonic dialogue; of course there is it's EAware after all. Rather or not there are non-romance dialogue in the game was never my argument. I argue that the overall story within their games are lacking, because they worry more about their characters and romances.

Oh give me a break. One biggest selling point in EAware's games are the romances. Everyday on this forum about 3 threads are created designated for romances. I will like EAware to give me a game without romances. I bet they won't, mainly because of the outcry this decision would make.
Characters are EAware strong suit, and the ability to romance them is an even stronger one. Anything else is put on a back burner so to speak. Inquisition; prime example. Overall story; lacking and uninspiring, but hey the characters were spot on like always. EAware is an equivalent to a one trick pony.

Yeah, ok, I'm simply noting how little actual content there is for this stuff in the game compared to the rest, despite the emphasis there may be in Bio's marketing and the fanbase, neither of which are terribly reliable for determining what the final product is like.

Now that you mention it... I can only think of one Bioware game where I experienced a no romance play through and that was my first Shepard in ME2. Ashley left and he ended up sad, lonely, and without snuggles!

Many Collectors suffered a result of this!

Better chemistry between the VAs. I think the femShep/Liara romance was great and really popular because the VAs had great chemistry between them and both played very well together. I felt when I first played ME1 that the romantic banter between Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis was sexy, funny, sensual, caring, sweet, and loving. The femShep/Garrus also had that.

Whereas the maleShep/Liara romance just didn't work because Mark Meer and Ali Hillis had zero chemistry between them and most their romantic banter felt like to people talking on a phone to different people. Mark Meer had great chemistry with Kim Brooks (the VA for Ash) and the VA for Miranda.

I just want to emphasize this FemShep/Garrus chemistry.  They really sold it in ME3, and in my opinion is why it turned to be one of the top, if not the best romances in the series.

However, that is not something you can simply say "have better chemistry."  Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn't like. Like real life.

I played DA:O a few times without it. My dwarf wasn't trying to get with these skinny tower people.

For me my third and last shepard was the no romance. First was Liara all the way. Second cheated on Ashley with Tali. The last held the line hoping Kasumi will end up romanceable during ME3, but nope.

Inquisition story wasn't the only story you can deem "safe" DA2 story lacked, ME2(eventhough was my favorite) lacked, and the abomination which is ME3 just bombed. It wasn't just Inquisition. After Origins their stories within their games get worst and worst. But companion development remains priority and continues to be the biggest upside to their games. Like I said, let's see if they'd ever make a ge without romances.

If you've been on these forums that long, then you should have some idea of how the development works over at Bioware. I've read about it at least a dozen times via Dev posts here and over on the Bioware blog. They hammer out the main story, then they create the characters, then after those two things are done they go back and decide which characters make sense for a romance plot.

So the entire idea that romances are somehow taking away from the main story arc of these games is ridiculous! The romances are the last thing they do narratively; Which means they don't effect the plot in any meaningful way.

It's why your romance choice has never effected a games outcome, something the romance fans, myself included, have been asking for since back in the KotOR/Jade Empire days.

So a bad plot or uninspired writing is simply that and not a result of romance or character design stealing resources.

Hehe, so let's kill the Collectors cause they're bad and all, but most of all because 'I'M ALL ALONE AND I NEED A BLOODY HUG'

Pretty much. My Shepard just hugged all the Collectors to death... xD

In my second play through I got down with the Tali love. That girl has no idea how many lives she saved! The Collectors should build her a monument.

They should make up for the lack of dwarven romances... only dwarven LIs confirmed for the next Dragon Age.

I think it would be cool to have sex earlier in the game for certain characters instead of the end, some view sex in a casual way, and it could actually make sense to develop the relationship afterward. Morrigan is actually that way, you sleep with her then she gets all tsundere later on and refuses to speak with you because she actually starts to develop feeling for you afterward. Someone like Alistair is different because he's a virgin, so sex is something he's not too familiar with or something he wants to jump into right away. Relationship needs to be a bit more complicated rather than jump into the bunk at the end of the game.

I would sign that petition! Scout Harding and Sigrun were awesome! Do want!

Plus we all know, the ladies just love Oghren!

I haven't bothered with any of the romance options in DA:I yet. I don't find any of the females in this game attractive except the ones you can't romance. I think this game has made me appreciate Leliana more than ever, and I only have one surviving warden who romanced her. The others romanced Morrigan and Queen Anora. It is a shame that I can't flirt with her at all in DA:I.

Scout Harding would be another one. Also, I often find myself gushing over the beautiful and/or super-cute female inquisitors I see people create.

I can only hope that in future Bioware games, long hair is a priority. And since there are no "classic", blonde, good girl romances in recent Bioware games (Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KotOR, Neverwinter Nights), I'd say one of those is long overdue. Just make a girl with her long hair down. Hair color doesn't really matter that much. And for goodness sake, allow longhaired male player characters without a mod. This was finally added to SWTOR when they added the "Qui-Gon hair".

So....you only want to romance someone if they're super cute with long hair? Didn't anyone's personality attract you as you played?
Cass is awesome and Sera is adorable, as is Josie.
Josie and Cass are gorgeous, of course so is Dorian.....I don't get it :/

I will never understand people who say Josie and Cassandra are ugly. Both of them are amazing and I would do anything if I could romance Cassandra as female.

Cassandra is pretty, maybe some people are just more into conventional look.

Me too!  Hell, I'd swap heads with either of them any day.  Cass has a strong, characterful yet pretty face, and Josie is super good looking.  I guess those people want bland anime doe-eyed big boobed barbie girls.  <_<

I flirted with Cass every chance I could with my IQ in the vain hope she'd suddenly turn bi.   Didn't happen.  :crying:

That's Curie, a companion in Fallout 4.

Hey, not all animes are like that and not all anime fans think that. I'm a huge anime fan and Josephine and Cassandra are some of my favorite characters, and think both are aesthetically pleasing.

It wasn't a comment on anime fans, but the trope of super big eyed, big boobed, little girls.  It seems like a lot of ppl would have preferred Cass and Josie to be like that rather than more realistic.  Even Disney is getting anime-ified with their princesses over the years, and lots of fanfics go that route too with the Bioware characters.

Again, not a comment on ppl who like anime, or even anime itself, more on some gamers desires to have pretty little princesses they can romance instead of real women.

Apologies if my comment read differently from what I intended.

Ah, I see.  I thought the clothes looked out of place. lol

But I don't have impossible standards.  I liked Aribeth, Sharwyn, Bastila, Ashley, Miranda, Leliana, Morrigan, Ashara, Mako, Elara, Lana, Bethany, Aveline, Athenril, etc.  Tali'Zorah is a special case.  It was a combination of her personality and her voice.

Sera would look better without the... "unique" haircut, but I don't plan on making lady inquisitors anyway.

Don't get me started on Sera's hair.  With all the mysteries in Thedas, her hairdo is one of the most baffling.

I always thought it seemed to fit her because it seemed like it was intentionally made to look like she had cut it herself.
