I would like fewer romance options with deeper story relevance.

It would be refreshing to have fewer romanceable characters for the protag in the main game of Andromeda.  One romance with a character that could switch their species(organic or synthetic) and gender (physical and psychological) through technology/biology could fulfill general appearance and behavior expectations. As a science fiction this romance could take some intriguing avenues of thought and be woven into the story.

In general terms, more romances or less, the romance should inform a science fiction inquiry relevant to the Andromeda story.

Maybe just two squadmates, a male and a female romanceable regardless of gender could work, but with exclusive dialogue for each gender.

This creepy romance
https://www.youtube....h?v=w-ygGLuuGn8

Oh god that was creepy, and here was I planning on hooking up with James some time. Scratch that one off the list.

I love love love femshep, and Jen Hale's VA, but what is it with the Jacob/James dialogue?? Not just the writing but the sexy voice...it bugs the crap outta me and doesn't fit the image of femShep that I have in my mind at all. She deserves better.

The problem I see with making the romances being integrated more into the story is that they would have to reduce the number of possible characters that can be romanced and possibly only having two possible romances so they can be properly integrated.  Now I wouldn't be upset if that happens, but I also remember the entire "player-sexual uproar" over Dragon Age II.

Personally like many things BioWare is in a no-win situation and won't be able to please people, so I rather BioWare stay with their own personal vision instead of trying to give everyone what they want to avoid a situation like Mass Effect 3 where they tried to include everything which caused everything to feel watered down at least to me.

I recently stumbled on a trailer for a dating sim on steam. People who use this pejorative clearly have no idea what these weird, strange, and incomprehensible games are like. Just one trailer for one of these and you can see that whatever it is that Bioware does, it's not a dating sim. No more than TW3, which has a way more dedicated and involved romance anyway.

I've noticed we always end up being for or against romance options pretty heavily: Really I think what this is about is "what is Bioware's priority?" I would not want to remove Garrus as a romance option in ME2. The only one I would remove is Jacob because that's just bad, but truth be told, I would be completely for having a romance option for every squadmate (unless it doesn't make sense story-wise) if it was possible while having a great plot too.

The problem is when Bioware decides to prioritize their romance arcs more than their story, the game feels shallower and the romance arcs often end up feeling less interesting if the whole point of them is just that it's two people falling in love. I would love to see them create a forbidden romance like Anakin and Padme (save the bad dialogue and creepy staring) based on your role as the protagonist vs the role of the love interest for example. Solas's romance in DA:I was excellent, but at the end of the day it was also the only romance that felt like it added to the story as the others were being dangerously close to shifting the genre into romantic comedy or teen-flicks like Twilight. (or I could just say bad fanfiction writing)

I just worry Bioware's veteran writers aren't that interested in stories or even writing for these games sometimes, so they focus on the romance arcs because that's easier and, hey, it's what fans want right? Let's just do that so the fans will love our game.

PS. Let me quote Eiji Aonuma - producer from The Legend of Zelda franchise:

“If we put all the feedback the fans write directly into the game, there won’t be an element of surprise,” he said. “If there’s a comment and they’re asking for certain element, I would think, 'Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn’t expect?' That’s how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game.“

Once more: Take. Note. Bioware.

Your constantly increasing people-pleasing has to stop at some point. Let Andromeda be the title to prove you have more in you than just doing what people ask for, please (unlikely as Andromeda was created out of this notion.)

PPS: I realize how hypocritical this is. Asking Bioware to stop caring about what we think, but if they were to follow this advice they'd still be doing it lol.

nah.

romances work best in these games when theyre minor subplots that give the player another roleplay opportunity. as much as posters on here like to over estimate how much of the story they suck up, trying to become as romance driven soap opera isnt the answer.

I've said over & over again B-Ware needs to decide if Mass Effect Andromeda will be the start of a new Trilogy or will it be a one-off then they should write the LI's accordingly.

If its a trilogy they need to have a small # of LIs maybe 4 or 5 that can be built on over the games the simple fact is the Shepard Trilogy had too many LI's and B-Ware struggled using them in both ME2&3.

Or if its a one-off they can have as many LIs as they want because they wont be bringing back any of the games Characters in the next Mass Effect.

So I'll say it again pick a lane B-Ware pick a ****** Lane.

Hate locked content that requires a completely different set up and another run through character creation.

If they start advertising "fewer romances/characters with deeper story relevance" I will have to assume what that actually means is "fewer romances/characters with just as shallow story relevance."

Because coming from a dev it would set off every marketing BS alarm I have.

You have D size breasts?  Noice.

But to stay on topic, I wholeheartedly agree with the OP.  Quality over quantity is where it's at.  This is why Bastila remains to this day the greatest romance of all time.  Nothing beats a tsundere Jedi who has plot relevance.  Although...I could have done without her being absent for the last third of the game.  -_-

What's why you always leave korriban for last. Well that and because the post reveal dialogue is absolutely hilarious.

I mean full Monty, uncensored, uncut, no sugar coating sex scenes. I was just answering your question. Oh um I found one of the NSFW fan-made versions of DA: Inquisition romance stories check out this link http://archiveofouro...view_adult=true

Note: It's not a video it's a fan made story and those who are underage, do not click on this link. Read @ your own risk and have fun! ;)

I agree with the quality over quantity, I thought the Witcher did a good job with the romances. I really enjoyed Yennefer's.

To be honest I would like to see Bioware swing back more towards limited choice with regards to most options for the player. having 9 companions in DA:I was crazy. There were only three classes and you could only have 4 people in a party all those extra companions meant that their stories were kinda meh. Cassandra and Bull both have a "crisis of faith" and it is resolved in one fraking conversation as if there was no crisis at all. Cullen's drug addiction was two conversations and poof it is over. Really? that is it? Addiction doesn't deserved to be trivialized as a nothing event.

I want less to have more. Giving us so many options doesn't give us more content it requires that the content we have get divided into smaller piles. If you divide 100 pennies into 10 piles you get 10 piles of ten but if you divide them into 5 piles you get 5 piles of 20. Same amount of content but because you have twice as many resources for any one "option" you can get more depth to things.

More choice isn't always the best result. Skyrim have about 50 companions and they were lifeless meat shields with almost nothing to say. More isn't always better.

Yes, go back to just humans and Asari. One monogendered species capable of mind-****ing all other species, is one thing. Bioware has went so far overboard with the fan service it has broken all sense of immersion in regards to romance. Now it seems nearly every species is sexually compatible with humans. Comes off a lot like bad fan fiction.

Lmao with my messed up mind I can't for the life of me figure out how Shepard would bone Garrus and don't even get me started on Thane.
