Hello guys. Having played DAO but not DA2, I assumed whatever choice I made in the first game would be of little consequence, if any, in DAI; so I started the game with the default world state.
Right now, I'm at the point of the game where you've just become Inquisitor --awesome moment btw-- and I realize I may have underestimated the depth of the game a little bit. I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps I was a bit too rash in my decision.
I would like to know, from those of you who have finished the game or played long enough, to what extent the choices made in the past games affect the world in DAI. In my particular case, I'm more interested in the effect of DAO, as I didn't play DA2 and would of course go with the default state on that game.
To give some info about the choices I made in DAO: my warden died killing the archdemon, Alistair became king and I had a human child with Morrigan.
I'm considering creating a Dragon Age Keep profile and starting a new game but only if my past choices carry enough weight in the current game to warrant a restart. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks!
Hey there. Glad you enjoying the Dragon Age series.
Contrary to the very popular belief around here, the reason the Dragon Age Keep exists is to provide your consecutive play-throughs with consistency in the setting, not to make future games be extended epilogues. The choices presented in the Keep are not indicative of what will be shown in future installments. The choices matter, but their impacts are still mostly contained in their respective stories... like 99.999999% of games out there.
Many of the choices in the keep are not used. Some are used intangibly such as in the war table or in ambient lore. Others appear very briefly in dialogue or in side quests. Few have a significant tangible impact on the main story.
The point of the Keep is to at least have the option of respecting the player decision should the relevant scenario in question be used. Being assured that your choices will at the very least be respected or addressed should they come up is what the Keep is all about.
While BioWare is still in control of the narrative, much of the setting is fundamentally yours.
If you do not care about the consistency of the setting, then you can use the default without much impact on your experience because the story would essentially be a blank slate to you. DAO choices appear to be more significant than those in DA2's in DAI. If you care about those choices, then I suggest you create a world state. It's worth it. In fact, two of the choices you listed are ones that have the most impact. You'll feel the story continuing across three games.
I also suggest you play DA2 at least once before playing DAI, if only to have some context for many things in the game.
